¹⁸ When the righteous turns from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, he shall even die in it.

²⁰ "Again, when a righteous man does turn from his righteousness, and commit iniquity, and I lay a stumbling block before him, he shall die: because you have not given him warning, he shall die in his sin, and his righteous deeds which he has done shall not be remembered; but his blood will I require at your hand.

²⁶ When the righteous man turns away from his righteousness, and commits iniquity, and dies in it; in his iniquity that he has done shall he die. ²⁷ Again, when the wicked man turns away from his wickedness that he has committed, and does that which is lawful and right, he shall save his soul alive.

¹² "You, son of man, tell the children of your people, 'The righteousness of the righteous shall not deliver him in the day of his disobedience; and as for the wickedness of the wicked, he shall not fall thereby in the day that he turns from his wickedness; neither shall he who is righteous be able to live thereby in the day that he sins.' ¹³ When I say to the righteous "He shall surely live," but he trusts in his righteousness and commits iniquity, none of his righteous deeds shall be remembered; but he shall die because of the iniquity he has committed.

³⁸ But the righteous will live by faith, and if he holds back, my soul has no pleasure in him."

²⁰ For if, after they have escaped the defilement of the world through the knowledge of the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, they are again entangled in it and overcome, the last state has become worse for them than the first. ²¹ For it would be better for them not to have known the way of righteousness, than, after knowing it, to turn back from the holy commandment delivered to them. ²² It has happened to them according to the true proverb, "The dog turns to his own vomit again," and "the sow that has washed to wallowing in the mire."
