²⁵ So do we also slepe in oure confusyon, and shame couereth vs: for we and oure fathers from oure youth vp vnto thys daye haue sinned agaynste the Lorde oure God, and haue not obeyed the voyce of the Lord oure God.

¹⁷ And then my wrath wyl waxe whot against them, and I wil forsake them, and wyl hide my face from them, & they shalbe consumed And when much aduersitie and tribulation is come vpon them, then they wyll saye: bycause our God is not among vs, these tribulations are come vpon vs. ¹⁸ But I wil hide my face that same time for all the euyls sake whych they shal haue wrought, in that they are turned vnto straunge Gods.

² but ye shulde haue made no couenaunt with the enhabytours of thys lande, ye shuld haue broken doune theyr aultares: But ye haue not obeyed my voyce, why haue ye thys done?

⁶ and sayde. My God I am ashamed, and darre not lyfte vp myne eyes vnto the my God: for our wyckednesses are growne ouer our heade, & oure trespaces are waxen greate vnto the heauen. ⁷ Sence the tyme of oure fathers haue we bene in greate trespace vnto this day, and because of oure wyckednesses haue we and oure kinges ben delyuered into the hand of the kynges of the nacyons, into the swerde, into captyuite, into spoyle, and into confusion of face as it is come to passe thys daye. ⁸ But now is there a lytle and sodayne gracyousnes come from the Lord oure God, so that some of vs are escaped, that he may geue vs a nayle in hys holy place, that oure God may lighte oure eyes, and geue vs a lytle life in oure bondage. ⁹ For we are bondmen, and oure God hath not forsaken vs in oure bondage, and hath enclined mercy vnto vs in the syght of the kinges of Persia, that he should geue vs lyfe, and promote the house of oure God, & to set vp the desolacyon therof, and to geue vs an hedge in Iuda and Ierusalem. ¹⁰ And now O our God, what shall we say after thys? for we haue forsaken thy commaundementes, ¹¹ whiche thou hast commaunded by thy seruauntes the Prophetes, and sayde: The lande vnto whiche ye go to possesse, it is an vncleane land thorow the fylthynes of the people of the landes, in their abhominacyons, wherwyth they haue made it ful of vnclennes on euery syde. ¹² Therfore shall ye not geue your doughters vnto their sounes, and their doughters shal ye not take vnto your sonnes & seke not their peace & welthe for euer, that ye maye be stronge, and enioye the good in the lande, & that ye and youre chyldren may haue the enheritaunce of it for euermore. ¹³ And after all thys that is come vpon vs (because of oure euyll deades & greate trespace) thou oure God hast spared oure wyckednesse, and hast geuen vs a delyueraunce as it is come to passe thys daye. ¹⁴ As for vs, we haue turned backe, & haue let go thy commaundementes, to make contracte wyth the people of these abhomynacyons. Wylte thou then be wrothe at vs, tyl we be vtterlye consumed, so that nothing remaine and tyll there be no delyueraunce? ¹⁵ O Lorde God of Israell, thou arte ryghteous, for we remayne yet escaped, as it is thys daye. Beholde in thy presence are we in oure trespace, for because of it is there no standynge before the.

³² Nowe oure God, thou great God, mightye and terryble, that thou kepest couenaunte and mercy, regarde not a lytle of the trauaile that hath happened vnto vs, and our kynges prynces, priestes, prophetes, fathers and all thy people, sence the tyme of the kynges of Assur vnto thys daye. ³³ Thou arte ryghteous in all that thou haste broughte vpon vs, for thou haste done ryghte. ³⁴ As for vs, we haue bene vngodly, and oure kynges, princes priestes and fathers haue not done after thy lawe, nor regarded thy commaundementes, & thy earnest exhortacyons wherewith thou hast exhorted them,

⁷ Oure fathers regarded not thy wonders in Egypte, they kepte not thy great goodnes in remembraunce: but were dysobedyent at the sea, euen at the reed sea.

²⁹ Let myne aduersaryes be clothed wyth their owne shame, as with a cloke.

¹³ Wherfore was not I obedyente vnto the voyce of my teachers, & herkened not vnto them that infourmed me?

⁸ Moreouer there be some whereof thou haste neyther hearde nor knowne, neyther haue they ben opened vnto thyne eares afore tyme. For I knew that thou woldest maliciously offende, therfor haue I called the a transgressoure, euen from thy mothers wombe.

¹¹ But take hede ye haue all kyndled a fyre, and gyrded youre selues with the flamme: Ye walcke in the glysteryng of youre owne fyre, and in the flamme that ye haue kyndled. This cometh vnto you from my hande, namely that ye shall slepe in sorowe.

² Go thy waye, crye in the eares of Ierusalem, and saye: Thus sayeth the Lorde: I remembre the for the kindnesse of thy youth, and because of thy stedfast loue: in that thou folowdest me thorowe the wildernesse, in an vntilled lande.

¹⁹ Thyne owne wickednesse shall reproue the, and thy turnynge awaye shal condemne the: that thou maiest know and vnderstand, how euyl and hurtful a thinge it is, that thou hast forsaken thy Lorde thy God, and not feared him, sayeth the Lorde God of Hostes.

²⁶ Lyke as a thefe that is taken with the dede commeth to shame, euen so is the house of Israell come to confusyon, the comen people their kynges and rulers, their priestes & prophetes.

²⁶ Wherfore, gyrde a sack clothe aboute the (O doughter of my people) sprinkle thy selfe wyth ashes, mourne and wepe bytterlye, as vpon thy onely beloued sonne: For the destroyer shall sodenly fall vpon vs.

²¹ I gaue the warnynge, whyle thou wast yet in prosperyte. But thou saydest: I wyll not heare. And thys maner haste thou vsed from thy youth, that thou woldest neuer heare my voyce.

⁷ Oure fathers (whiche now are gone) haue synned, & we must beare their wyckednesse.

¹⁶ The garlande of oure head is fallen: alas, that euer we synned so sore.

¹⁸ they shall gyrde them selues with sacke clothe, feare shall fall vpon them. Their faces shalbe confounded, and their heades balde:

³² But I wyll not do this for youre sakes (sayeth the Lorde God) be ye sure of it. Therfore, O ye house of Israell, be ashamed of your synnes.

⁶ We woulde neuer folowe thy seruauntes the Prophetes, that spake in thy name to our kinges and princes, to oure forefathers, and to all the people of the lande. ⁷ O Lorde, ryghteousnesse belongeth vnto the, vnto vs pertayneth nothynge but open shame, as it is come to passe this day vnto euery man of Iuda and to them that dwell at Ierusalem: Yea, vnto all Israell, whether they be farre or nye thorow out all landes: wherin thou haste strowed them, because of the offences that they had done agaynst the. ⁸ Yea O Lorde, vnto vs, to our kinges and princes, to oure forefathers: euen to vs all, that haue offended the, belongeth open shame. ⁹ But vnto the, O Lorde oure God, pertayneth mercye and forgeuenesse. As for vs, we are gone backe from him, ¹⁰ and haue not obeyed the voyce of the Lorde oure God, to walke in his lawes, which he layed before vs by his seruauntes the prophetes:

² Many of them that slepe in the dust of the earth, shal awake: some to euerlastinge lyfe, some to perpetual shame and reprofe.

²¹ What fruit had ye then in those thynges, where of ye are nowe ashamed. For the ende of those thynges is deathe.
