¹⁹ we know that we are the children of God, and the rest of the world are subject to the evil spirit.

³¹ now is this world condemn'd: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

³⁰ for the prince of the world is coming:

¹⁸ if the world hate you, consider that it hated me before it hated you. ¹⁹ if you were of the world, the world would love its own: but because you are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world does hate you.

¹¹ of judgment, because the prince of this world is condemn'd.

²⁸ As they did not seek the favour of God, by worshipping him, God gave them over to a depraved sense, to act unworthy of human nature; ²⁹ they were full of all injustice, fornication, mischief, covetousness, malice; full of envy, murder, contention, fraud, malignity; ³⁰ whisperers, backbiters, enemies of God, injurious, proud, vain, inventers of vices, disobedient to parents, void of judgment, ³¹ fidelity, and natural affection; implacable, and unmerciful: ³² who knowing the divine rule of right, did not perceive that they who commit such things are worthy of death, and not only they who do the same, but they who give countenance to those that do them.

⁹ "how then are we better than they?" why, not at all: for we have already convicted both Jews and Gentiles, of being all under the guilt of sin. ¹⁰ as it is written, " there is none righteous, no not one: ¹¹ there is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. ¹² they are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable, there is none that doth good, no not one. ¹³ their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: ¹⁴ whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness. ¹⁵ their feet are swift to shed blood. ¹⁶ destruction and misery are in their ways: ¹⁷ and the way of peace have they not known. ¹⁸ there is no fear of God before their eyes."

¹⁶ the same spirit testifies to our spirit, that we are the children of God.

¹² for this is to me matter of glorying, the testimony of my conscience, that without artifice, and with religious sincerity, not by worldly wisdom, but by God's favourable assistance I have behaved my self towards all men, but more particularly to you.

⁴ to those unbelievers, whose minds the God of this world has so blinded, that the glorious lustre of the gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, does not enlighten them.

¹ For I know, that if my body, which is but a tent for my sojourning upon earth, were dissolved, I have what is not fram'd by human art, but by the divine architect, a mansion eternal in the heavens.

⁴ that he might deliver us from the vices of this present age, according to the will of God, even our father: to

² in which you formerly liv'd, influenc'd by the customs of this world, and by the prince of the aerial powers, the spirits that now actuate the incredulous:

¹² yet I am not ashamed, for I know in whom I have confided, and I am persuaded he is able to keep what I have committed to him against that day.

³ for even we ourselves were once inconsiderate, disobedient, deluded, addicted to variety of passions and pleasures, living in malice and envy, the deserving objects of mutual hatred.

⁴ Degenerate race, don't you know that friendship with vice is hostility against heaven. he that is a friend to the vicious world, is an enemy to God.

¹⁴ as for us, we know, that we have passed from a state of death to that of life, because we love our brethren: he that does not love his brother, is in a destructive state.

²⁴ he that observes his commandments, dwelleth in God, and God in him: and hereby we know that he abideth in us, by the spirit which he hath given us.

⁴ ye are of God, my dear children, and you have overcome them: because he that is in you, is superior to him that is in the world. ⁵ they are of the world: therefore their doctrine is worldly, and the world are their disciples. ⁶ we are of God: he that knoweth God, heareth us; he that is not of God, heareth not us. by this we distinguish the spirit of truth from the spirit of imposture.

¹⁰ he that believeth on the son of God, hath the testimony of God thereto: he that does not believe God, impeaches his veracity, because he does not believe the testimony that God gave of his son.

¹³ these things have I written to you, that you may know that you have eternal life, by your believing on the name of the son of God.

¹⁸ we know that a true christian will not commit such a sin, for he that is the child of God keeps upon his guard, so that the wicked spirit does not approach him.

²⁰ We know that the son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding to know him that is true: and we are with him that is true, by his son Jesus Christ. "he is the true God, who is the author of eternal life."

⁹ the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, call'd the devil or satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast down to the earth, and his angels were precipitated with him.

⁷ he was permitted to make war with the saints, and to overcome them: and power was given him over all the tribes, and provinces, and nations. ⁸ all that dwell upon the earth will worship him, whose names are not written from the foundation of the world in the book of life of the lamb, that was slain.

³ then cast him into the bottomless pit, there shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should seduce the nations no more, till the thousand years should he fulfilled: and after that, he was to be loosed for a short time.

⁷ When the thousand years are expired, Satan shall be loosed out of his prison, ⁸ and shall go out to seduce the nations, which are in the four quarters of the earth, Gog and Magog, to assemble them to battle: they will be as numerous as the sand of the sea.
