² So that the one resisting the authority resists the ordinance of God; and the ones who resist will receive judgment to themselves.

² Yet they seek Me daily, and delight to know My ways, as a nation that did righteousness, and one who did not forget the ordinance of their God. They ask of Me the ordinances of justice; they take delight in drawing near to God.

⁸ but, Jehovah lives, who brought up and led the seed of the house of Israel out of the north country, and from all countries where I have driven them. And they shall dwell in their own land. ⁹ My heart within me is broken because of the prophets; all my bones shake. I am like a drunken man, and like a man whom wine has overcome, because of Jehovah, and because of the Words of His holiness. ¹⁰ For the land is full of adulterers. Yes, because of cursing the land mourns; the pleasant places of the wilderness are dried up, and their course is evil, and their power is not right. ¹¹ For both prophet and priest are ungodly; yes, in My house I have found their evil, says Jehovah. ¹² So their way shall be to them as slippery ways in the darkness; they shall be driven on, and fall in them; for I will bring evil on them, even the year of their judgment, says Jehovah. ¹³ And I have seen frivolity in the prophets of Samaria; they prophesied by Baal and caused My people Israel to go astray. ¹⁴ I have also seen in the prophets of Jerusalem a horrible thing; they commit adultery and walk in falsehood. They also strengthen to the hands of evildoers, so that none returns from his evil; they are all of them like Sodom to Me, and its inhabitants like Gomorrah. ¹⁵ So Jehovah of Hosts says this concerning the prophets: Behold, I will feed them wormwood, and make them drink poisonous water; for from the prophets of Jerusalem ungodliness has gone forth into all the land. ¹⁶ So says Jehovah of Hosts, Do not listen to the words of the prophets who prophesy to you. They make you vain; they speak a vision from their own heart, not out of the mouth of Jehovah. ¹⁷ They still say to those who despise Me, Jehovah has said, You shall have peace! And they say to everyone who walks after the stubbornness of his own heart, No evil shall come on you!

¹⁴ So that none of the remnant of Judah who has gone into the land of Egypt to live there shall escape or remain, that they should return into the land of Judah to which they have a desire to return to live there. For none shall return except those who escape. ¹⁵ And all the men who knew that their wives had burned incense to other gods, and all the women who stood by, a great multitude, even all the people who lived in the land of Egypt, in Pathros, answered Jeremiah. And they said, ¹⁶ As for the Word that you have spoken to us in the name of Jehovah, we will not listen to you. ¹⁷ But we will certainly do whatever thing goes forth out of our own mouth, to burn incense to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings to her, as we have done, we, and our fathers, our kings, and our rulers, in the cities of Judah, and in the streets of Jerusalem. For then we had plenty of food, and were well, and saw no evil.

¹³ But woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you shut up the kingdom of Heaven against men. For you neither go in, nor do you allow those entering to go in.

⁴⁰ who devour widows' houses, and as a pretense make long prayers. These shall receive greater condemnation.

⁵ Therefore you must be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience' sake.

¹ Put them in mind to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to every good work,

¹ My brothers, do not be many teachers, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.

¹³ Then be in obedience to every ordinance of men, because of the Lord, whether to a king as supreme,
