⁴⁰ They asked, and He brought quail, and satisfied them with the food of heaven.

¹² I have heard the murmurings of the sons of Israel. Speak to them, saying, You shall eat flesh at evening, and in the morning you shall be filled with bread. And you shall know that I am Jehovah your God. ¹³ And it happened at evening, the quails came up and covered the camp. And in the morning the dew lay all around the host. ¹⁴ And when the layer of dew had gone up, behold, there was a small round thing upon the face of the wilderness, small as the hoar-frost upon the ground. ¹⁵ And when the sons of Israel saw, they said each one to his brother, What is that? For they did not know what it was. And Moses said to them, This is the bread which Jehovah has given you to eat. ¹⁶ This is the thing which Jehovah has commanded: Each man gather of it according to his eating, an omer for a head, according to the number of your souls. Each one shall take for those who are in his camp. ¹⁷ And the sons of Israel did so, and gathered, some more, and some less. ¹⁸ And when they measured with an omer, he that gathered much had nothing over, and he that gathered little lacked nothing. They gathered each one according to his eating. ¹⁹ And Moses said, Let no man leave of it until the morning. ²⁰ But they did not listen to Moses, but some of them left of it until the morning. And it became rotten with maggots, and stank. And Moses was angry with them. ²¹ And they gathered it every morning, each man according to his eating. And when the sun became hot, it melted. ²² And it happened, on the sixth day they gathered twice as much bread, two omers for one. And all the rulers of the congregation came and told Moses. ²³ And he said to them, This is that which Jehovah has said, Tomorrow is the rest of the holy sabbath to Jehovah. Bake what you will bake today, and boil what you will boil. And that which remains over, lay up for you to be kept until the morning. ²⁴ And they laid it up until the morning, as Moses said. And it did not stink, neither was there any worm in it. ²⁵ And Moses said, Eat that today. For today is a sabbath to Jehovah. Today you shall not find it in the field. ²⁶ Six days you shall gather it, but on the seventh day, the sabbath, in it there shall be none. ²⁷ And it happened some of the people went out on the seventh day in order to gather. And they did not find any. ²⁸ And Jehovah said to Moses, How long do you refuse to keep My commandments and My Laws? ²⁹ See, because Jehovah has given you the sabbath, therefore He gives you the bread of two days on the sixth day. Each one stay in his place. Let not any one go out of his place on the seventh day. ³⁰ So the people rested on the seventh day. ³¹ And the house of Israel called the name of it Manna. And it was like coriander seed, white. And the taste of it was like wafers with honey. ³² And Moses said, This is the thing which Jehovah has commanded: Fill an omer of it to be kept for your generations, so that you may see the bread with which I have fed you in the wilderness, when I brought you forth from the land of Egypt. ³³ And Moses said to Aaron, Take a pot and put an omer full of manna in it, and lay it up before Jehovah, to be kept for your generations. ³⁴ As Jehovah commanded Moses, so Aaron laid it up before the Testimony, to be kept. ³⁵ And the sons of Israel ate manna forty years, until they came to a land in which people lived. They ate manna until they came into the borders of the land of Canaan.

⁴ And the mixed multitude in their midst lusted with great lust. And the sons of Israel also turned and wept, and said, Who shall give us flesh to eat? ⁵ We remember the fish which we ate freely in Egypt, the cucumbers, and the melons, and the leeks, and the onions, and the garlic. ⁶ But now our soul is dried away; there is nothing at all besides this manna before our eyes. ⁷ And the manna was like coriander seed, and the color of it was like the color of bdellium. ⁸ The people went around and gathered, and ground it in mills, or beat it in a mortar, and baked in pans, and made cakes of it. And the taste of it was like the taste of fresh oil. ⁹ And when the dew fell upon the camp in the night, the manna fell upon it.

³¹ And a wind went forth from Jehovah. And it cut off quails from the sea and let them fall by the camp, about a day's journey on this side, and about a day's journey on the other side, all around the camp, and about two cubits high upon the face of the earth. ³² And the people stood up all that day and all night, and all the next day, and they gathered the quails. And he that gathered least gathered ten homers. And they spread them out for themselves all around the camp. ³³ And while the flesh was yet between their teeth, before it was chewed, the wrath of Jehovah was kindled against the people, and Jehovah struck the people with a very great plague.

³ And He humbled you and allowed you to hunger, and then He fed you with manna, which you did not know, neither did your fathers know it, so that He might make you know that man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes out of the mouth of Jehovah man shall live.

¹² And the manna stopped on the next day after they had eaten the old grain of the land. And there was no more manna to the sons of Israel, but they ate the fruit of the land of Canaan that year.

²⁰ You also gave Your good Spirit to teach them, and did not withhold Your manna from their mouth, and gave them water for their thirst.

¹⁸ And they tempted God in their heart by asking food for their lust.

²³ though He had commanded the clouds from above, and had opened the doors of the heavens; ²⁴ and had rained down manna on them to eat, and He gave them of the grain of the heavens. ²⁵ Man ate the food of the mighty; He sent them meat to the full. ²⁶ He caused an east wind to blow in the sky; and by His power He brought in the south wind. ²⁷ and He also rained flesh on them like dust, and winged birds like the sand of the sea; ²⁸ and He let them fall in the middle of their camp, all around their tents.

³¹ Our fathers ate the manna in the desert, as it is written, "He gave them bread from Heaven to eat." ³² Then Jesus said to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Moses did not give you that bread from Heaven, but My Father gives you the true bread from Heaven. ³³ For the bread of God is He who comes down from Heaven and gives life to the world.

⁴⁸ I am the Bread of life. ⁴⁹ Your fathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and died. ⁵⁰ This is the Bread which comes down from Heaven, so that a man may eat of it and not die. ⁵¹ I am the Living Bread which came down from Heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he shall live forever. And truly the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. ⁵² Then the Jews argued with one another, saying, How can this man give us his flesh to eat? ⁵³ Then Jesus says to them, Truly, truly, I say to you, Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man, and drink His blood, you do not have life in yourselves. ⁵⁴ Whoever partakes of My flesh and drinks My blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. ⁵⁵ For My flesh is food indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. ⁵⁶ He who partakes of My flesh and drinks My blood dwells in Me, and I in him. ⁵⁷ As the living Father has sent Me, and I live through the Father, so he who partakes of Me, even he shall live by Me. ⁵⁸ This is the Bread which came down from Heaven, not as your fathers ate the manna, and died; he who partakes of this Bread shall live forever.
