¹⁰ Shame shall cover you from the violence against your brother Jacob, and you shall be cut off forever.

¹¹ And Jacob said to his mother Rebekah, Behold, Esau my brother is a hairy man, and I am a smooth man.

⁴¹ And Esau hated Jacob because of the blessing with which his father had blessed him. And Esau said in his heart, The days of mourning for my father are at hand. Then I will kill my brother Jacob.

¹⁴ And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh to the king of Edom, So says your brother Israel, You know all the trouble that has happened to us, ¹⁵ how our fathers went down into Egypt, and we have lived in Egypt a long time. And the Egyptians troubled us and our fathers. ¹⁶ And when we cried to Jehovah, He heard our voice and sent an Angel, and has brought us forth out of Egypt. And behold! We are in Kadesh, a city in the outermost part of your border. ¹⁷ Let us pass, I pray you, through your country. We will not pass through a field, nor through a vineyard, neither will we drink of the water of a well. We will go by the king's highway. We will not turn to the right hand nor to the left until we have passed your borders. ¹⁸ And Edom said to him, You shall not pass by me, lest I come out against you with the sword. ¹⁹ And the sons of Israel said to him, We will go by the highway. And if I and my cattle drink of your water, then I will pay for it. Without doing anything, I will only go through on my feet. ²⁰ And he said, You shall not go through. And Edom came out against him with many people, and with a strong hand. ²¹ So Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border. Therefore Israel turned away from him.

⁷ because I have borne reproach for Your sake, shame has covered my face.

⁵ For with one heart they have plotted together; they have made a covenant against You-- ⁶ the tents of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarites; ⁷ Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the people of Tyre; ⁸ and Assyria has joined with them; they have helped the sons of Lot. Selah. ⁹ Do to them as to Midian, as to Sisera, as to Jabin at the torrent Kishon;

⁴⁵ The days of his youth You have shortened; You have covered him with shame. Selah.

²⁹ Let my foes be clothed with shame, and let them cover themselves with their own shame, as with a cloak.

¹⁸ I will clothe his enemies with shame; but his crown shall shine on him.

⁷ Remember, O Jehovah, the sons of Edom in the day of Jerusalem; who said, Make it bare! Make it bare, even to the foundation of it!

²⁵ We lie down in our shame, and our confusion covers us; for we have sinned against Jehovah our God, we and our fathers, from our youth even to this day, and have not obeyed the voice of Jehovah our God.

¹³ For I have sworn by Myself, says Jehovah, that Bozrah shall become a ruin, a reproach, a waste, and a curse. And all its cities shall be wastes forever.

¹⁷ Also Edom shall be a ruin. Everyone who goes by it shall be amazed and shall hiss at all its plagues. ¹⁸ As in the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah and its neighbor, says Jehovah, no man shall remain there, nor shall a son of man live in it. ¹⁹ Behold, he shall come up like a lion from the swelling of Jordan against the home of the strong. But I will suddenly make him run away from her. And who is a chosen one I may appoint over it? For who is like Me? And who will summon Me? And who is that shepherd who will stand before Me? ²⁰ So then hear the counsel of Jehovah which He has taken against Edom, and His purposes which He has purposed against the people of Teman: Surely the least of the flock shall drag them away. Surely He shall make their homes a ruin over them.

⁵¹ We have turned pale because we have heard reproach; shame has covered our faces, for foreigners have come into the holy places of Jehovah's house.

²¹ Rejoice and be glad, O daughter of Edom, who lives in the land of Uz. The cup also shall pass through unto you; you shall be drunken and stripped naked.

¹⁸ They shall also gird on sackcloth, and trembling shall cover them; and shame shall be on all faces, and baldness on all heads.

¹² So says the Lord Jehovah: Because Edom has dealt against the house of Judah by taking vengeance, and has greatly offended and revenged himself on them; ¹³ therefore so says the Lord Jehovah: I will also stretch out My hand on Edom, and will cut man and beast off from it; and I will make it a waste from Teman, even to Dedan they shall fall by the sword. ¹⁴ And I will lay My vengeance on Edom by the hand of My people Israel. And they shall do in Edom according to My anger and according to My fury. And they shall know My vengeance, says the Lord Jehovah.

⁵ Because you have had a never-ending hatred, and have shed the blood of the sons of Israel by the force of the sword in the time of their calamity, in the time that iniquity had an end, ⁶ therefore, as I live, says the Lord Jehovah, I will yield you up to blood, and blood shall pursue you. Since you have not hated blood, even blood shall pursue you. ⁷ So I will make Mount Seir a ruin, and cut off from it the one passing through, and the one returning.

⁹ I will make you ruins forever, and your cities shall not be inhabited. And you shall know that I am Jehovah.

¹² And you shall know that I am Jehovah. I have heard all your blasphemies which you have spoken against the mountains of Israel, saying, Desolation! They are given to us for food. ¹³ So with your mouth you have boasted against Me, and have multiplied your words against Me. I have heard them. ¹⁴ So says the Lord Jehovah: When the whole earth rejoices, I will make you a ruin. ¹⁵ As you rejoiced at the inheritance of the house of Israel because of desolation, so I will do to you. You shall be a desolation, O Mount Seir and all Idumea, even all of it. And they shall know that I am Jehovah.

¹⁹ Egypt shall be a ruin, and Edom shall be a desolate wilderness, from violence done to the sons of Judah, whose innocent blood they poured out in their land.

¹¹ So says Jehovah: For three transgressions of Edom, yea for four, I will not turn away from it. Because he pursued his brother with the sword, and cast off all pities, and his anger tore without end, and he kept his wrath forever.

¹⁰ Then my enemy shall see it; and shame shall cover her who said to me, Where is Jehovah your God? My eyes shall behold her; now she shall be trampled like the mud of the streets.

³ and I hated Esau and made his mountains a desolation, and his inheritance to be for the jackals of the wilderness. ⁴ If Edom says, We are beaten down, but we will return and build the waste places. So says Jehovah of Hosts, They shall build, but I will throw down; and they shall call them the region of wickedness, and the people with whom Jehovah is indignant forever.
