⁶ And blessed is he, whoever shall not be offended in Me.

¹ Blessed is the man who has not walked in the counsel of the ungodly, and has not stood in the way of sinners, and has not sat in the seat of the scornful. ² But his delight is only in the Law of Jehovah; and in His Law he meditates day and night.

¹ A Psalm of David. A Contemplation. Blessed is the man whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. ² Blessed is the man to whom Jehovah does not charge iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no guile.

¹ ALEPH: Blessed are the upright in the way, who walk in the Law of Jehovah.

¹⁴ And He shall be a sanctuary for you, but for a stone of stumbling, and for a rock of falling to both the houses of Israel, for a trap and for a snare to the people of Jerusalem. ¹⁵ And many among them shall stumble and fall and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

³ Blessed are the poor in spirit! For theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. ⁴ Blessed are they that mourn! For they shall be comforted. ⁵ Blessed are the meek! For they shall inherit the earth. ⁶ Blessed are they who hunger and thirst after righteousness! For they shall be filled. ⁷ Blessed are the merciful! For they shall obtain mercy. ⁸ Blessed are the pure in heart! For they shall see God. ⁹ Blessed are the peacemakers! For they shall be called the sons of God. ¹⁰ Blessed are they who have been persecuted for righteousness sake! For theirs is the kingdom of Heaven. ¹¹ Blessed are you when men shall revile you and persecute you, and shall say all kinds of evil against you falsely, for My sake. ¹² Rejoice and be exceedingly glad, for your reward in Heaven is great. For so they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

⁵⁵ Is not this the carpenter's son? Is not his mother called Mary? And his brothers, James and Joses and Simon and Judas, ⁵⁶ and his sisters, are they not all with us? Then from where does this man have all these things? ⁵⁷ And they were offended in Him. But Jesus said to them, A prophet is not without honor, except in his own country and in his own house.

¹² Then His disciples came and said to Him, Do You know that the Pharisees were offended when they heard this saying? ¹³ But He answered and said, Every plant which My heavenly Father has not planted shall be rooted up. ¹⁴ Let them alone. They are blind leaders of the blind. And if the blind lead the blind, both shall fall into the ditch.

⁷ Woe to the world because of offenses! For it is necessary that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!

¹⁰ And then many will be offended, and will betray one another, and will hate one another.

³¹ Then Jesus said to them, All of you will be offended because of Me this night. For it is written, "I will smite the Shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad."

³⁴ And Simeon blessed them and said to Mary His mother, Behold, this One is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel, and for a sign spoken against

²³ And He said to them, You will surely say this proverb to Me, Physician, heal yourself. Whatever we have heard done in Capernaum, do also here in your native-place. ²⁴ And He said, Truly I say to you, No prophet is accepted in his native-place. ²⁵ But I tell you truly, many widows were in Israel in the days of Elijah, when the heaven was shut up three years and six months, when great famine was throughout all the land. ²⁶ But Elijah was not sent to any of them, except to Zarephath, a city of Sidon, to a woman, a widow. ²⁷ And many lepers were in Israel in the time of Elisha the prophet, and none of them was cleansed except Naaman the Syrian. ²⁸ And hearing these things, all in the synagogue were filled with wrath. ²⁹ And they rose up and thrust Him outside the city, and led Him up to the brow of the hill on which their city was built, in order to throw Him down.

²⁷ And it happened as He spoke these things, a certain woman of the company lifted up her voice and said to Him, Blessed is the womb that bore You, and the breasts which You have sucked. ²⁸ But He said, No; rather, blessed are they who hear the Word of God and keep it.

⁶⁰ Then when they had heard, many of His disciples said, This is a hard saying, who can hear it? ⁶¹ But knowing in Himself that His disciples murmured about it, Jesus said to them, Does this offend you?

⁶⁶ From this time many of His disciples went back into the things behind, and walked no more with Him.

⁴¹ Others said, This is the Christ. But others said, Does the Christ come out of Galilee? ⁴² Has the Scripture not said that Christ comes from the seed of David and out of the town of Bethlehem, where David was?

³² Why? Because it was not of faith, but as it were by the works of the Law. For they stumbled at that Stumbling-stone; ³³ as it is written, "Behold, I lay in Zion a Stumbling-stone and a Rock-of-offense, and everyone believing on Him shall not be put to shame."

²² For the Jews ask for a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom; ²³ but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness.

¹⁴ But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.

¹¹ And I, brothers, if I yet proclaim circumcision, why am I still persecuted? Then the offense of the Cross has ceased.

⁸ and a Stone-of-stumbling and a Rock-of-offense to those disobeying, who stumble at the Word, to which they also were appointed.
