²⁵ At that time Jesus answered and said, I thank You, O Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, because You have hidden these things from the sophisticated and cunning, and revealed them to babes.

¹⁹ And he blessed him, and said, Blessed be Abram of the most high God, possessor of Heaven and earth.

²² And Abram said to the king of Sodom, I have lifted up my hand to Jehovah, the most high God, the possessor of Heaven and earth,

¹⁴ Behold, the heaven and the heaven of heavens belong to Jehovah your God, the earth also, with all in it. ¹⁵ Only Jehovah had a delight in your fathers to love them, and He chose their seed after them, you above all people, as it is today.

¹⁸ And Samuel served before Jehovah, a child girded with a linen ephod.

⁴ And Jehovah called Samuel. And he answered, Here am I. ⁵ And he ran to Eli, and said, Here am I. For you called me. And he said, I did not call. Go and lie down again. And he went to lie down. ⁶ And Jehovah called again, Samuel! And Samuel arose and went to Eli and said, Here am I, for you called me. And he answered, I did not call, my son. Go back, lie down. ⁷ And Samuel did not yet know Jehovah, and the Word of Jehovah had not yet been revealed to him. ⁸ And Jehovah called Samuel again, the third time. And he arose and went to Eli and said, Here am I, for you called me. And Eli saw that Jehovah had called the child. ⁹ And Eli said to Samuel, Go, lie down; and it shall be, if One calls you, you shall say, Speak, Jehovah, for Your servant hears. And Samuel went to lie down in his place. ¹⁰ And Jehovah came and stood, and called as at other times, Samuel, Samuel! Then Samuel answered, Speak, for Your servant hears. ¹¹ And Jehovah said to Samuel, Behold, I will do a thing in Israel at which both the ears of everyone who hears it shall tingle. ¹² In that day I will confirm to Eli all that which I have spoken as to his house, beginning and making an end. ¹³ For I have told him that I will judge his house forever for the iniquity which he knows, because his sons made themselves vile and he did not restrain them. ¹⁴ And therefore I have sworn to the house of Eli that the iniquity of Eli's house shall not be purged with sacrifice nor offering forever. ¹⁵ And Samuel lay until morning, and opened the doors of the house of Jehovah. And Samuel feared to show Eli the vision. ¹⁶ And Eli called Samuel and said, Samuel, my son. And he answered, Here am I. ¹⁷ And he said, What is the word which He has said to you? Please do not hide it from me. God do so to you, and more also, if you hide a thing from me of all the words that He said to you. ¹⁸ And Samuel told him all the words, and hid nothing from him. And he said, It is Jehovah; let Him do what seems good to Him. ¹⁹ And Samuel grew, and Jehovah was with him and let none of his words fall to the ground. ²⁰ And all Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, knew that Samuel was established to be a prophet of Jehovah. ²¹ And Jehovah appeared again in Shiloh. For Jehovah revealed himself to Samuel in Shiloh by the Word of Jehovah.

¹⁵ And Hezekiah prayed before Jehovah and said, O Jehovah, the God of Israel, who dwells between the cherubs, You are God Himself, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made the heavens and the earth.

¹³ And now, our God, we thank You and praise Your glorious name.

² Out of the mouths of babes and sucklings You have ordained strength, because of ones vexing You, to cause the enemy and the avenger to cease.

²¹ Woe to those wise in their own eyes, and bright in their own sight!

¹⁰ For Jehovah has poured out on you the spirit of deep sleep, and has closed your eyes; He has covered the prophets and your heads, the seers. ¹¹ And the vision of all has become to you like the words of a book that is sealed, which they give to one who knows books saying, Please read this; and he says, I cannot, for it is sealed. ¹² And the book is delivered to him who does not know books, saying, Please read this; and he says, I do not know books. ¹³ And Jehovah said, Because this people draw near Me with their mouth, and with their lips honor Me, but have removed their heart far from Me, and their fear toward Me is taught by the command of men; ¹⁴ therefore, behold, I will go on doing among this people, a wonder, even a wonder. For the wisdom of their wise ones shall perish, and the understanding of their intelligent ones shall be hidden.

¹⁸ And in that day the deaf shall hear the words of the book, and the eyes of the blind shall see out of their gloom and darkness. ¹⁹ And the meek shall increase joy in Jehovah, and the poor among men shall rejoice in the Holy One of Israel.

¹ So says Jehovah, Heaven is My throne, and earth My footstool. Where, then, is the house that you build for Me? And where is the place of My rest?

⁵ Before I formed you in the belly I knew you; and before you came forth out of the womb I consecrated you, and I ordained you a prophet to the nations. ⁶ Then I said, Alas, Lord Jehovah! Behold, I do not know to speak; for I am a boy. ⁷ But Jehovah said to me, Do not say, I am a boy; for you shall go to all that I shall send you, and whatever I command you, you shall speak. ⁸ Do not be afraid of their faces; for I am with you to deliver you, says Jehovah.

²³ I thank You, and praise You, O God of my fathers, who has given me wisdom and might, and have made known to me now what we asked of You. For You have now made known to us the king's matter.

³⁵ And all the people of the earth are counted as nothing; and He does according to His will in the army of heaven, and among the people of the earth. And none can strike His hand, or say to Him, What are You doing?

¹¹ He answered and said to them, Because it is given to you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of Heaven, but it is not given to them. ¹² For whoever has, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance. But whoever does not have, from him shall be taken away even that which he has. ¹³ Therefore I speak to them in parables, because seeing they see not, and hearing they hear not; nor do they understand. ¹⁴ And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah which said, "By hearing you shall hear and shall not understand; and seeing you shall see and shall not perceive; ¹⁵ for this people's heart has become gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and they have closed their eyes, lest at any time they should see with their eyes and hear with their ears and should understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them." ¹⁶ But blessed are your eyes, for they see; and your ears, for they hear.

¹⁷ Jesus answered and said to him, You are blessed, Simon, son of Jonah, for flesh and blood did not reveal it to you, but My Father in Heaven.

³ and said, Truly I say to you, Unless you are converted and become as little children, you shall not enter into the kingdom of Heaven. ⁴ Therefore whoever shall humble himself like this little child, this one is the greater in the kingdom of Heaven.

¹⁶ And they said to Him, Do you hear what these say? And Jesus said to them, Yes, have you never read, "Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings You have perfected praise?"

¹⁰ And when He was alone, they who were about Him, with the Twelve, asked Him concerning the parable. ¹¹ And He said to them, To you it is given to know the mystery of the kingdom of God. But to those outside, all these things are given in parables ¹² so that seeing they may see, and not perceive; and hearing they may hear, and not understand; lest at any time they should be converted, and their sins should be forgiven them.

¹⁴ But when Jesus saw, He was much displeased and said to them, Allow the little children to come to Me and do not hinder them. For of such is the kingdom of God. ¹⁵ Truly I say to you, Whoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter into it. ¹⁶ And taking them up in His arms, He put His hands on them and blessed them.

²¹ In that hour Jesus rejoiced in Spirit and said, I thank You, Father, Lord of Heaven and earth, that You have hidden these things from the sophisticated and cunning, and have revealed them to babes. Yes, Father, for so it was pleasing before You. ²² All things are delivered to Me by My Father; and no one knows who the Son is except the Father, and who the Father is except the Son, and the one to whom the Son will reveal Him. ²³ And He turned to His disciples and said privately, Blessed are the eyes which see the things that you see. ²⁴ For I tell you that many prophets and kings have desired to see what you see, and have not seen them, and to hear what you hear, and have not heard them.

⁴² saying, Father, if You are willing, remove this cup from Me. Yet not My will, but Yours be done.

⁴⁸ Is it not true that not any of the rulers or of the Pharisees have believed into him? ⁴⁹ But this crowd, not knowing the Law, is cursed.

³⁹ And Jesus said, I have come into this world for judgment, that they who do not see might see, and that they who see might be made blind. ⁴⁰ And those of the Pharisees who were with Him heard these words, and said to Him, Are we also blind? ⁴¹ Jesus said to them, If you were blind, you would have no sin. But now you say, We see. Therefore your sin remains.

⁴¹ Then they took away the stone where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up His eyes and said, Father, I thank You that You have heard Me.

³⁸ so that the saying of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he spoke, "Lord, who has believed our report? And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?" ³⁹ Therefore they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes and hardened their heart, so that they should not see with their eyes nor understand with their heart, and be converted, and I should heal them."

²⁴ The God who made the world and all things in it, since He is Lord of Heaven and earth, does not dwell in temples made with hands,

⁸ even as it is written, "God gave to them a spirit of slumber, eyes not seeing, and ears not hearing" until this day. ⁹ And David said, "Let their table become for a snare and a trap and a stumbling block and a recompense to them. ¹⁰ Let their eyes be darkened so that they may not see, and their back always bowing."

¹⁸ For the preaching of the cross is foolishness to those being lost, but to us being saved, it is the power of God. ¹⁹ For it is written, "I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and I will set aside the understanding of the perceiving ones." ²⁰ Where is the wise? Where is the scribe? Where is the lawyer of this world? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of this world? ²¹ For since, in the wisdom of God, the world by wisdom did not know God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save those who believe. ²² For the Jews ask for a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom; ²³ but we preach Christ crucified, to the Jews a stumbling block, and to the Greeks foolishness. ²⁴ But to them, the called-out ones, both Jews and Greeks, Christ is the power of God and the wisdom of God. ²⁵ Because the foolish thing of God is wiser than men, and the weak thing of God is stronger than men. ²⁶ For you see your calling, brothers, that not many wise men according to the flesh are called, not many mighty, not many noble. ²⁷ But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God has chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; ²⁸ and God has chosen the base things of the world, and things which are despised, and things which are not, in order to bring to nothing things that are; ²⁹ so that no flesh should glory in His presence.

⁶ But, we speak wisdom among those who are perfect; yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the rulers of this world, that come to nothing. ⁷ But we speak the wisdom of God in a mystery, which God has hidden, predetermining it before the world for our glory; ⁸ which none of the rulers of this world knew (for if they had known, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory).

¹⁸ Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you seems to be wise in this world, let him become a fool so that he may be wise. ¹⁹ For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God; for it is written, "He takes the wise in their own craftiness." ²⁰ And again, "The Lord knows the thoughts of the wise, that they are vain."

¹⁴ (But their thoughts were blinded; for until the present the same veil remains on the reading of the old covenant, not taken away.) But this veil has been done away in Christ.

³ But also if our gospel is hidden, it is hidden to those being lost, ⁴ in whom the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelieving ones, so that the light of the glorious gospel of Christ (who is the image of God) should not dawn on them. ⁵ For we do not preach ourselves, but Christ Jesus as Lord, and ourselves your servants for Jesus' sake. ⁶ For it is God who said, "Out of darkness Light shall shine;" who shone in our hearts to give the brightness of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

¹³ But we are bound to give thanks always to God for you, brothers beloved of the Lord, because God has from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth, ¹⁴ to which He called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.
