¹ Since many took in hand to draw up an account concerning the matters which have been borne out among us,

³¹ But these are written so that you might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that believing you might have life in His name.

¹ Truly, O Theophilus, I made the first report as to all things that Jesus began both to do and teach ² until the day He was taken up, having given directions to the apostles whom He chose, through the Holy Spirit; ³ to whom He also presented Himself living after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them through forty days, and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God.

¹⁶ And without controversy great is the mystery of godliness: God was manifested in the flesh, justified in the Spirit, seen by angels, preached among nations, believed on in the world, and received up into glory.

¹⁷ But the Lord stood with me and strengthened me, that through me the preaching might be fulfilled, and that all the nations might hear. And I was delivered out of the mouth of the lion.

¹⁶ For not having followed fables having been cunningly devised, but becoming eyewitnesses of the majesty of Jesus Christ, we made known to you the power and coming of our Lord. ¹⁷ For He received honor and glory from God the Father, when was borne to Him a voice from the excellent glory, "This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased." ¹⁸ And we heard this voice being borne from Heaven, being with Him in the holy mountain. ¹⁹ We also have a more sure Word of prophecy, to which you do well to take heed, as to a light that shines in a dark place, until the day dawns and the Daystar arises in your hearts,
