¹ And these are the names of the tribes. From the north end, at the hand of the way of Hethlon to the entrance of Hamath, Hazar-enan, the border of Damascus northward, at the hand of Hamath. And there shall be to it an east side and a west: one part for Dan.

³ And she said, Behold my slave woman Bilhah; go in to her, and she shall bear upon my knees, and yea, let me be built up from her, me also. ⁴ And she gave him her slave woman Bilhah to wife. And Jacob went in to her. ⁵ And Bilhah conceived, and bore Jacob a son. ⁶ And Rachel said, God has judged me, and has also heard my voice, and has given me a son. Therefore she called his name Dan.

¹ And these were the names of the sons of Israel who came into Egypt. Every man and his household came with Jacob: ² Reuben; Simeon; Levi; and Judah; ³ Issachar; Zebulun; and Benjamin, ⁴ Dan; and Naphtali; Gad; and Asher. ⁵ And all the souls that came out of the loins of Jacob were seventy souls, for Joseph was already in Egypt.

⁵ And these are the names of the men that shall stand with you: of Reuben, Elizur, the son of Shedeur; ⁶ of Simeon, Shelumiel the son of Zurishaddai; ⁷ of Judah, Nahshon the son of Amminadab; ⁸ of Issachar, Nethaneel the son of Zuar; ⁹ of Zebulun, Eliab the son of Helon; ¹⁰ of the sons of Joseph; of Ephraim, Elishama the son of Ammihud; of Manasseh, Gamaliel the son of Pedahzur; ¹¹ of Benjamin, Abidan the son of Gideoni; ¹² of Dan, Ahiezer the son of Ammishaddai; ¹³ of Asher, Pagiel the son of Ocran; ¹⁴ of Gad, Eliasaph the son of Reuel; ¹⁵ of Naphtali, Ahira the son of Enan.

⁴ And these were their names: Of the tribe of Reuben, Shammua the son of Zaccur. ⁵ Of the tribe of Simeon, Shaphat the son of Hori. ⁶ Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. ⁷ Of the tribe of Issachar, Igal the son of Joseph. ⁸ Of the tribe of Ephraim, Oshea the son of Nun. ⁹ Of the tribe of Benjamin, Palti the son of Raphu. ¹⁰ Of the tribe of Zebulun, Gaddiel the son of Sodi. ¹¹ Of the tribe of Joseph, of the tribe of Manasseh, Gaddi the son of Susi. ¹² Of the tribe of Dan, Ammiel the son of Gemalli. ¹³ Of the tribe of Asher, Sethur the son of Michael. ¹⁴ Of the tribe of Naphtali, Nahbi the son of Vophsi. ¹⁵ Of the tribe of Gad, Geuel the son of Machi.

⁷ And this shall be your northern border. From the Great Sea you shall point out for you Mount Hor. ⁸ From Mount Hor you shall point your border to the entrance of Hamath. And the end of the border shall be at Zedad. ⁹ And the border shall go on to Ziphron, and the end of it shall be at Hazar-enan. This shall be your north border.

⁴⁰ The seventh lot came out for the tribe of the sons of Dan according to their families. ⁴¹ And the border of their inheritance was Zorah, and Eshtaol, and Ir-shemesh, ⁴² and Shaalabbin, and Ajalon, and Jethlah, ⁴³ and Elon, and Timnah, and Ekron, ⁴⁴ and Eltekeh, and Gibbethon, and Baalath, ⁴⁵ and Jehud, and Beneberak, and Gath-rimmon, ⁴⁶ and Mejarkon, and Rakkon, with the border before Japho. ⁴⁷ And the border of the sons of Dan came out too little for them. And the sons of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it, and struck it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and lived in it. And they called Leshem Dan, after the name of their father Dan.

²⁶ And the sons of Dan went their way. And when Micah saw that they were too strong for him, he turned and went back to his house. ²⁷ And they took the things which Micah had made, and the priest whom he had, and came to Laish, to a people quiet and feeling safe. And they struck them with the edge of the sword and burned the city with fire. ²⁸ And there was no deliverer, because it was far from Sidon, and they had no business with any man. And it was in the valley that lies by Beth-rehob. And they built a city and lived in it. ²⁹ And they called the name of the city Dan, after the name of Dan their father, who was born to Israel. However the name of the city was Laish at the first.

² For the king said to Joab the commander of the army, who was with him, Go around through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan to Beer-sheba, and count the people so that I may know the number of the people.

²⁸ And the king took counsel, and made two calves of gold and said to them, It is too much for you to go up to Jerusalem. Behold your gods, O, Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt! ²⁹ And he set the one in Bethel, and he put the other in Dan.

¹⁵ And this is the border of the land to the north side, from the Great Sea, the way of Hethlon, to the entrance of Zedad; ¹⁶ Hamath, Berothah, Sibraim, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath; Hazer-hatticon, which is by the border of Hauran. ¹⁷ And the border shall be from the sea to Hazar-enan, at the border of Damascus and the north northward, even the border of Hamath. And this is the north side.

²⁰ And the west side is the Great Sea from the border until one is beside the entrance of Hamath. This is the west side.

¹⁵ Is it not lawful for me to do what I want with my own? Is your eye evil because I am good? ¹⁶ So the last shall be first, and the first last, for many are called, but few are chosen.

⁴ And I heard the number of those who were sealed, one hundred and forty-four thousands, having been sealed out of every tribe of the sons of Israel. ⁵ Out of the tribe of Judah, twelve thousand had been sealed. Out of the tribe of Reuben, twelve thousand had been sealed. Out of the tribe of Gad, twelve thousand had been sealed. ⁶ Out of the tribe of Asher, twelve thousand had been sealed. Out of the tribe of Naphtali, twelve thousand had been sealed. Out of the tribe of Manasseh, twelve thousand had been sealed. ⁷ Out of the tribe of Simeon, twelve thousand had been sealed. Out of the tribe of Levi, twelve thousand had been sealed. Out of the tribe of Issachar, twelve thousand had been sealed. ⁸ Out of the tribe of Zebulun, twelve thousand had been sealed. Out of the tribe of Joseph, twelve thousand had been sealed. Out of the tribe of Benjamin, twelve thousand had been sealed.
