¹ And David said, Is there still any that is left from the house of Saul, that I may show him kindness for Jonathan's sake?

¹ And it happened when he had finished speaking to Saul, the soul of Jonathan was joined with the soul of David, and Jonathan loved him as he did his own soul. ² And Saul took him that day and would not let him go home to his father's house any more. ³ And Jonathan and David cut a covenant, because he loved him as his own soul. ⁴ And Jonathan stripped off the robe was on him and gave it to David, and his apparel, even to his sword and to his bow and to his girdle.

¹⁴ And you shall not only show me the kindness of Jehovah while I still live, so that I do not die, ¹⁵ but you shall not cut off your kindness from my house forever, no, not when Jehovah has cut off the enemies of David, every one, from the face of the earth. ¹⁶ So Jonathan covenanted with the house of David, saying, Let Jehovah even require it at the hand of David's enemies. ¹⁷ And Jonathan caused David to swear again, because he loved him. For he loved him as he loved his own soul.

⁴² And Jonathan said to David, Go in peace because we have both sworn in the name of Jehovah, saying, The Lord shall be between me and you, and between my seed and your seed, forever. And he rose and went away. And Jonathan went into the city.

¹⁶ And Jonathan, Saul's son, arose and went to David into the woods, and strengthened his hand in God. ¹⁷ And he said to him, Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father shall not find you. And you shall be king over Israel, and I shall be next to you. And my father Saul knows that also. ¹⁸ And the two of them cut a covenant before Jehovah. And David stayed in the forest, and Jonathan went to his house.

²⁶ I am distressed for you, my brother Jonathan. Very pleasant you have been to me. Your love to me was wonderful, more than the love of women.

⁷ But show kindness to the sons of Barzillai the Gileadite, and let them be of those that eat at your table. For so they came to me when I fled because of Absalom your brother.

¹⁰ Your own friend, and your father's friend, do not forsake them; nor go to your brother's house in the day of your trouble; better is a neighbor that is near than a brother far off.

⁴² And whoever shall give to one of these little ones a cup of cold water to drink, only in the name of a disciple, truly I say to you, He shall in no way lose his reward.

⁴⁰ And the King shall answer and say to them, Truly I say to you, Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brothers, you have done it to Me.

⁴¹ For whoever shall give you a cup of water to drink in My name, because you belong to Christ, truly I say to you, He shall not lose his reward.

²⁶ Then when Jesus saw His mother and the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, Woman, behold your son! ²⁷ Then He said to the disciple, Behold your mother! And from that hour that disciple took her into his own home.

⁹ rather through love I entreat, being such a one as Paul the aged, and now also a prisoner of Jesus Christ. ¹⁰ I entreat you for my child Onesimus, whom I have fathered in my bonds, ¹¹ he who was once worthless to you, but now useful to you and to me; whom I sent back to you. ¹² Even receive him, that is, my own heart,

⁸ And finally, all be of one mind, having compassion on one another, loving the brothers, tenderhearted, friendly.
