¹ A Song of Ascents. Of David. O Jehovah, my heart is not proud, nor have my eyes been lofty; nor have I walked in great things, nor in things too wondrous for me.

³ And the man Moses was very meek, more than any man who was on the face of the earth.

²⁰ so that his heart may not be lifted up above his brothers, and that he may not turn aside from the commandment, to the right or to the left; so that he may prolong his days over his kingdom, he and his sons in the midst of Israel.

¹³ And Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him in the midst of his brothers. And the Spirit of Jehovah came upon David from that day and onward. And Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

¹⁸ One of the servants answered and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite who is skillful in playing, and a mighty warrior, and a man of battle, and skillful in speech, and a man of form. And Jehovah is with him.

²² And Saul sent to Jesse, saying, Please let David stand before me, for he has found grace in my eyes.

¹⁵ And David went and returned from Saul, to feed his father's flock at Bethlehem.

²⁸ And his eldest brother Eliab heard when he spoke to the men. And Eliab's anger burned against David. And he said, Why is it you have come down? And with whom have you left those few sheep in the wilderness? I know your pride and the evil of your heart, for you have come down to see the battle. ²⁹ And David said, What have I done now? Was it not but a word?

²³ And Saul's servants spoke these words in David's ears. And David said, Is it a light thing in your eyes to be son-in-law to the king? And I am a poor man, and lightly esteemed.

³ Who is this hiding counsel without knowledge? So I declared, but did not understand things too wonderful for me; yea, I did not know.

⁷⁰ He also chose His servant David, and took him from the sheepfolds; ⁷¹ He brought him in from the suckling ewes; He brought him to feed His people Jacob, and His inheritance, Israel. ⁷² And he fed them in the integrity of his heart; and guided them in the skillfulness of his hands.

⁵ Whoever secretly slanders his neighbor, I will cut him off; I will not endure him who has high eyes and a proud heart.

⁶ Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is set on high; I am not able to reach it.

¹⁶ And I have not hurried away from shepherding after You, nor have I desired the woeful day. You surely know that the utterance of my lips was before Your face.

⁵ And do you seek great things for yourself? Do not seek them . For, behold, I will bring evil on all flesh, declares Jehovah. But I will give your soul to you for a prize, there on all the places where you go.

¹⁴ Then Amos answered and said to Amaziah: I was not a prophet, nor was I a prophet's son, but I was a herdsman and a gatherer from sycamore trees. ¹⁵ And Jehovah took me from behind the flock, and Jehovah said to me, Go, prophesy to My people Israel.

²⁹ Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, because I am meek and lowly in heart, "and you will find rest to your souls." Jer. 6:16

¹⁹ serving the Lord with all humility, and many tears and trials happening to me by the plots of the Jews;

³³ O the depth of the riches and of the wisdom and the knowledge of God! How unsearchable are His judgments and His ways past finding out!

¹⁶ minding the same thing toward one another, not minding high things, but yielding to the lowly. Do not become wise within yourselves.

⁶ nor seeking glory from men, neither from you, nor from others, having been able to be so with the weight of glory as apostles of Christ. ⁷ But we were gentle in your midst, even as a nurse should warmly cherish her children.

¹⁰ You and God are witnesses how holily and righteously and blamelessly we were to you, those believing;
