¹ A Song of Ascents. Out of the depths I have called You, O Jehovah.

⁴ The cords of death hemmed me in; yea, the floods of ungodly men overwhelmed me; ⁵ cords of Sheol surrounded me; the snares of death confronted me. ⁶ In my distress I called on Jehovah and I cried to my God; He heard my voice out of His temple, and my cry went before Him, into His ears.

¹⁶ He sent from on high, He took me; He drew me out of many waters;

¹⁶ Turn to me and be gracious to me, for I am lonely and afflicted. ¹⁷ The straits of my heart are enlarged; O bring me out from my straits. ¹⁸ Look on my affliction and my pain, and lift up all my sins.

² And He drew me up from the pit of tumult, out of the miry clay; He set my feet on a rock; He directed my steps.

⁷ Deep calls to deep through the voice of Your waterfalls; all Your waves and Your billows have passed over me.

¹ To the chief musician. Concerning the Lilies. Of David. Save me, O God, for the waters have come in to my soul. ² I sink in deep mire, and there is no standing; I have come into deep waters where the floods overflow me.

¹⁴ Deliver me out of the mire, that I may not sink; let me be delivered from those who hate me, and out of the deep waters. ¹⁵ Let not the flood waters overflow me, nor let the deep swallow me up; and let not the pit shut its mouth on me.

²⁰ Who has shown me great and evil distresses; You will turn me; You will make me live; and You will bring me up from the depths of the earth.

⁶ You have laid me in the lowest pit, in dark places; in the deeps. ⁷ Your fury has lain hard upon me, and You afflict me with all Your waves. Selah.

³ The cords of death hemmed me in; and the pains of Sheol found me; I find distress and sorrow; ⁴ then I call on the name of Jehovah: O Jehovah, I beseech You, deliver my soul!

¹ A Song of Ascents. They who trust in Jehovah shall be like Mount Zion; it is not shaken; it remains forever.

¹ A Song of Ascents. When Jehovah turned back the captivity of Zion, we were like those who dream.

¹ A Song of Ascents, for Solomon. If Jehovah does not build the house, they who build it labor in vain; if Jehovah does not keep the city, the watchman stays awake in vain.

¹ A Song of Ascents. Blessed is everyone who fears Jehovah, who walks in His ways.

¹ A Song of Ascents. Many times they have afflicted me from my youth, let Israel now say;

⁵³ They have cut off my life in the pit, and they threw a stone at me. ⁵⁴ Waters flowed over on my head; I said, I am cut off. ⁵⁵ I called on Your name, O Jehovah, from the lowest pit.

² And he said, I cried out to Jehovah from my distress. And He answered me. Out of the belly of Sheol I cried for help, and You heard my voice. ³ For You cast me into the deep, into the heart of the seas, and the current surrounded me; all Your breakers and Your waves passed over me. ⁴ And I said, I am cast off from Your eyes; yet I will again look to Your holy temple.

⁷ who in the days of His flesh was offering both petitions and entreaties to Him being able to save Him from death, with strong crying and tears, and being heard from His godly fear;
