⁵ and the light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overtake it.

¹³ They are among rebellers against light; they do not recognize His ways, nor do they stay in His paths. ¹⁴ The murderer rising with the light kills the poor and needy, and in the night he is a thief. ¹⁵ And the adulterer's eye keeps watch for twilight, saying, No eye will see me; and he puts a covering on his face. ¹⁶ In the dark he digs through houses; they shut themselves up by day; they do not know the light. ¹⁷ For alike are morning and the shadow of death to them; for he knows the terrors of death shadow.

²² How long will you love to be simple, you simple ones? And will scorners desire scorn for themselves? And will fools hate knowledge?

²⁹ Instead they hated knowledge and chose not the fear of Jehovah. ³⁰ They did not want my counsel; they despised all my reproof,

¹⁰ He was in the world, and the world came into being through Him, yet the world did not know Him.

¹⁹ And this is the judgment, that the Light has come into the world, and men loved the darkness more than the Light, for their works were evil. ²⁰ For everyone practicing wickedness hates the Light, and does not come to the Light, that his works may not be exposed.

³⁶ While you have the Light, believe into the Light, that you may become sons of Light. Jesus spoke these things, and going away He was hidden from them. ³⁷ But though He had done so many miracles before them, they did not believe into Him, ³⁸ so that the word of Isaiah the prophet might be fulfilled, which he said, "Lord, who has believed our report? And the arm of the Lord, to whom was it revealed?" Isa. 53:1 ³⁹ Because of this they could not believe, because Isaiah said again, ⁴⁰ "He has blinded their eyes" and "has hardened their heart," "that they might not see with the eyes" and "understand with the heart," "and be converted," "and I should heal them." Isa. 6:10

²⁸ And even as they did not think fit to have God in their knowledge, God gave them up to a reprobate mind, to do the things not right,

¹⁴ But a natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he is not able to know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
