¹⁶ The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and honor.

¹ When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai tore his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry; ² And came even before the king's gate: for none might enter into the king's gate clothed with sackcloth. ³ And in every province, wherever the king's commandment and his decree came, there was great mourning among the Jews, and fasting, and weeping, and wailing; and many lay in sackcloth and ashes.

¹⁶ Go, gather together all the Jews that are present in Shushan, and fast for me, and neither eat nor drink three days, night or day: I also and my maidens will fast likewise; and so will I go in unto the king, which is not according to the law: and if I perish, I perish.

¹⁷ On the thirteenth day of the month Adar; and on the fourteenth day of the same they rested, and made it a day of feasting and gladness.

²⁸ For you will light my lamp: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness.

⁵ For his anger endures but for a moment; in his favor is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. ⁶ And in my prosperity I said, I shall never be moved. ⁷ LORD, by your favor you have made my mountain to stand strong: you did hide your face, and I was troubled. ⁸ I cried to you, O LORD; and unto the LORD I made supplication. ⁹ What profit is there in my blood, when I go down to the pit? Shall the dust praise you? shall it declare your truth? ¹⁰ Hear, O LORD, and have mercy upon me: LORD, be my helper. ¹¹ You have turned for me my mourning into dancing: you have put off my sackcloth, and girded me with gladness;

¹¹ Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

⁴ Unto the upright there arises light in the darkness: he is gracious, and full of compassion, and righteous.

¹⁸ But the path of the just is as the shining light, that shines more and more unto the perfect day. ¹⁹ The way of the wicked is as darkness: they know not at what they stumble.

¹⁰ When it goes well with the righteous, the city rejoices: and when the wicked perish, there is shouting.

²⁹ You shall have a song, as in the night when a holy feast is kept; and gladness of heart, as when one goes with a flute to come into the mountain of the LORD, to the mighty One of Israel. ³⁰ And the LORD shall cause his glorious voice to be heard, and shall show the descending of his arm, with the indignation of his anger, and with the flame of a devouring fire, with scattering, and tempest, and hailstones.

¹⁰ And the ransomed of the LORD shall return, and come to Zion with songs and everlasting joy upon their heads: they shall obtain joy and gladness, and sorrow and sighing shall flee away.
