¹ Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many as had not known all the wars of Canaan;

²² And the LORD thy God will cast out those nations before thee by little and little; thou mayest not consume them quickly, lest the beasts of the field increase upon thee.

² And thou shalt remember all the way which the LORD thy God hath led thee these forty years in the wilderness, that He might afflict thee, to prove thee, to know what was in thy heart, whether thou wouldest keep His commandments, or no.

¹⁶ who fed thee in the wilderness with manna, which thy fathers knew not, that He might afflict thee, and that He might prove thee, to do thee good at thy latter end;

¹⁰ And also all that generation were gathered unto their fathers; and there arose another generation after them, that knew not the LORD, nor yet the work which He had wrought for Israel.

²¹ I also will not henceforth drive out any from before them of the nations that Joshua left when he died; ²² that by them I may prove Israel, whether they will keep the way of the LORD to walk therein, as their fathers did keep it, or not.'

³¹ Howbeit in the business of the ambassadors of the princes of Babylon, who sent unto him to inquire of the wonder that was done in the land, God left him, to try him, that He might know all that was in his heart.

¹⁰ For He knoweth the way that I take; when He hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.

³ The refining pot is for silver, and the furnace for gold; but the LORD trieth the hearts.

²⁷ I have made thee a tower and a fortress among My people; that thou mayest know and try their way.

⁹ The heart is deceitful above all things, and it is exceeding weak - who can know it? ¹⁰ I the LORD search the heart, I try the reins, even to give every man according to his ways, according to the fruit of his doings.

⁹ And I will bring the third part through the fire, and will refine them as silver is refined, and will try them as gold is tried; they shall call on My name, and I will answer them; I will say: 'It is My people', and they shall say: 'The LORD is my God.'

²⁴ But Jesus did not trust himself unto them, for that he knew all men,

⁷ that the proof of your faith, being more precious than gold that perisheth though it is proved by fire, may be found unto praise and honor and unto glory at the revelation of Jesus Christ:

¹² Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial among you, which cometh upon you to prove you, as though a strange thing happened unto you:

²³ And I will kill her children with death, and all the churches shall know that I am he that searcheth the reins and hearts; and I will give unto each one of you according to your works.
