¹⁷ Charge them that are rich in this present world, that they be not highminded, nor have their hope set on the uncertainty of riches, but on the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy,

² And Abram was very rich in cattle, in silver, and in gold.

¹⁰ And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land which He swore unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee - great and goodly cities, which thou didst not build, ¹¹ and houses full of all good things, which thou didst not fill, and cisterns hewn out, which thou the didst not hew, vineyards and olive-trees, which thou didst not plant, and thou shalt eat and be satisfied - ¹² then beware lest thou forget the LORD, who brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage.

¹⁷ and thou say in thy heart: 'My power and the might of my hand hath gotten me this wealth.'

¹⁵ And for the tops of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the everlasting hills,

¹⁶ But when he was strong, his heart was lifted up so that he did corruptly, and he trespassed against the LORD his God; for he went into the temple of the LORD to burn incense upon the altar of incense.

²⁵ But Hezekiah rendered not according to the benefit done unto him; for his heart was lifted up; therefore there was wrath upon him, and upon Judah and Jerusalem. ²⁶ Notwithstanding Hezekiah humbled himself for the pride of his heart, both he and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, so that the wrath of the LORD came not upon them in the days of Hezekiah.

⁷ (52:9) 'Lo, this is the man that made not God his stronghold; but trusted in the abundance of his riches, and strengthened himself in his wickedness.'

⁸ (62:9) Trust in Him at all times, ye people; pour out your heart before Him; God is a refuge for us. Selah

¹⁰ (62:11) Trust not in oppression, and put not vain hope in robbery; if riches increase, set not your heart thereon.

⁵ In the trouble of man they are not; neither are they plagued like men. ⁶ Therefore pride is as a chain about their neck; violence covereth them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stand forth from fatness; they are gone beyond the imaginations of their heart. ⁸ They scoff, and in wickedness utter oppression; they speak as if there were none on high. ⁹ They have set their mouth against the heavens, and their tongue walketh through the earth.

¹¹ (84:12) For the LORD God is a sun and a shield; the LORD giveth grace and glory; no good thing will He withhold from them that walk uprightly. ¹² (84:13) O LORD of hosts, happy is the man that trusteth in Thee.

²⁸ Thou givest it unto them, they gather it; Thou openest Thy hand, they are satisfied with good.

⁸ It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in man. ⁹ It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.

²⁸ He that trusteth in his riches shall fall; but the righteous shall flourish as foliage.

⁵ Wilt thou set thine eyes upon it? it is gone; for riches certainly make themselves wings, like an eagle that flieth toward heaven.

²⁴ For riches are not for ever; and doth the crown endure unto all generations?

⁹ Lest I be full, and deny, and say: 'Who is the LORD?' Or lest I be poor, and steal, and profane the name of my God.

¹³ (5:12) There is a grievous evil which I have seen under the sun, namely, riches kept by the owner thereof to his hurt; ¹⁴ (5:13) and those riches perish by evil adventure; and if he hath begotten a son, there is nothing in his hand.

¹⁸ (5:17) Behold that which I have seen: it is good, yea, it is comely for one to eat and to drink, and to enjoy pleasure for all his labour, wherein he laboureth under the sun, all the days of his life which God hath given him; for this is his portion. ¹⁹ (5:18) Every man also to whom God hath given riches and wealth, and hath given him power to eat thereof, and to take his portion, and to rejoice in his labour - this is the gift of God.

³¹ O generation, see ye the word of the LORD: have I been a wilderness unto Israel? or a land of thick darkness? Wherefore say My people: 'We roam at large; we will come no more unto Thee'?

²³ (9:22) Thus saith the LORD: Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches; ²⁴ (9:23) But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth, and knoweth Me, that I am the LORD who exercise mercy, justice, and righteousness, in the earth; for in these things I delight, saith the LORD.

⁷ Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose trust the LORD is. ⁸ For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out its roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but its foliage shall be luxuriant; and shall not be anxious in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.

⁴⁹ Behold, this was the iniquity of thy sister Sodom: pride, fulness of bread, and careless ease was in her and in her daughters; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy. ⁵⁰ And they were haughty, and committed abomination before Me; therefore I removed them when I saw it.

⁵⁶ For thy sister Sodom was not mentioned by thy mouth in the day of thy pride;

³⁰ (4:27) The king spoke, and said: 'Is not this great Babylon, which I have built for a royal dwelling-place, by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?'

¹⁹ and because of the greatness that He gave him, all the peoples, nations, and languages trembled and feared before him: whom he would he slew, and whom he would he kept alive; and whom he would he raised up, and whom he would he put down. ²⁰ But when his heart was lifted up, and his spirit was hardened that he dealt proudly, he was deposed from his kingly throne, and his glory was taken from him; ²¹ and he was driven from the sons of men, and his heart was made like the beasts, and his dwelling was with the wild asses; he was fed with grass like oxen, and his body was wet with the dew of heaven; until he knew that God Most High ruleth in the kingdom of men, and that He setteth up over it whomsoever He will. ²² And thou his son, O Belshazzar, hast not humbled thy heart, though thou knewest all this; ²³ but hast lifted up thyself against the Lord of heaven; and they have brought the vessels of His house before thee, and thou and thy lords, thy consorts and thy concubines, have drunk wine in them; and thou hast praised the gods of silver, and gold, of brass, iron, wood, and stone, which see not, nor hear, nor know; and the God in whose hand thy breath is, and whose are all thy ways, hast thou not glorified;

⁶ When they were fed, they became full, they were filled, and their heart was exalted; therefore have they forgotten Me.

¹⁵ They take up all of them with the angle, they catch them in their net, and gather them in their drag; therefore they rejoice and exult. ¹⁶ Therefore they sacrifice unto their net, and offer unto their drag; because by them their portion is fat, and their food plenteous.

³² For after all these things do the Gentiles seek, for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.

²³ And Jesus said unto his disciples, Verily I say unto you, It is hard for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of heaven.

⁵⁷ And when even was come, there came a rich man from Arimathaea, named Joseph, who also himself was Jesus' disciple:

²⁴ And the disciples were amazed at his words. But Jesus answereth again, and saith unto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches to enter into the kingdom of God!

¹⁵ And he said unto them, Take heed, and keep yourselves from covetousness; for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth. ¹⁶ And he spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully; ¹⁷ and he reasoned within himself, saying, What shall I do, because I have not where to bestow my fruits? ¹⁸ And he said, This will I do; I will pull down my barns, and build greater, and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. ¹⁹ And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years, take thine ease, eat, drink, be merry. ²⁰ But God said unto him, Thou foolish one, this night is thy soul required of thee, and the things which thou hast prepared, whose shall they be? ²¹ So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

² And behold, a man called by name Zacchaeus, and he was a chief publican, and he was rich.

⁹ And Jesus said unto him, To-day is salvation come to this house, forasmuch as he also is a son of Abraham. ¹⁰ For the Son of man came to seek and to save that which was lost.

¹⁷ And yet He left not himself without witness, in that he did good and gave you from heaven rains and fruitful seasons, filling our hearts with food and gladness.

²⁷ And when they were come, and had gathered the church together, they rehearsed all things that God had done with them, and that he had opened a door of faith unto the Gentiles.

²⁵ neither is he served by men's hands, as though he needed anything, seeing he himself giveth to all life, and breath, in respect to all things,

²⁰ Well, by their unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by thy faith. Be not highminded, but fear:

⁵ For this ye know of a surety, that no fornicator, nor unclean person, nor covetous man, who is an idolater, hath any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and God.

¹⁶ Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, in all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts unto the Lord.

⁹ For they themselves report concerning us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned unto God from idols, to serve a living and true God,

³ As I exhorted thee to tarry at Ephesus, when I was going into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge certain men not to teach a different doctrine,

¹⁵ but if I tarry long, that thou mayest know how men ought to behave themselves in the house of God, which is the church of the living God, the pillar and ground of the truth.

¹⁰ For to this end we labor and suffer reproach, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Saviour of all men, specially of them that believe.

²¹ I charge thee in the sight of God, and Christ Jesus, and the elect angels, that thou observe these things without prejudice, doing nothing by partiality.

¹³ I charge thee in the sight of God, who giveth life to all things, and of Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed the good confession,

¹⁰ for Demas forsook me, having loved this present world, and went to Thessalonica, Crescens to Galatia, Titus to Dalmatia.

¹² instructing us, to the intent that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly and righteously and godly in this present world,

⁶ which he poured out upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour,

⁹ But let the brother of low degree glory in his high estate: ¹⁰ and the rich, in that he is made low; because as the flower of the grass he shall pass away.

⁶ Render unto her even as she rendered, and double unto her the double according to her works; in the cup which she mingled, mingle unto her double. ⁷ How much soever she glorified herself, and waxed wanton, so much give her of torment and mourning; for she saith in her heart, I sit a queen, and am no widow, and shall in no wise see mourning.
