¹³ Yet I, when they were sicke, I was clothed with a sacke: I humbled my soule with fasting: and my praier was turned vpon my bosome.

²⁹ So this shalbe an ordinance for euer vnto you: the tenth day of the seuenth moneth, yee shall humble your soules, and do no worke at all, whether it be one of the same countrey or a strager that soiourneth among you.

³¹ This shall be a Sabbath of rest vnto you, and ye shall humble your soules, by an ordinance for euer.

²⁷ Nowe when Ahab heard those wordes, he rent his clothes, and put sackcloth vpon him and fasted, and lay in sackecloth and went softely. ²⁸ And the worde of the Lord came to Eliiah the Tishbite, saying, ²⁹ Seest thou how Ahab is humbled before me? because he submitteth himselfe before me, I will not bring that euill in his dayes, but in his sonnes dayes wil I bring euill vpon his house.

²⁵ Did not I weepe with him that was in trouble? was not my soule in heauinesse for the poore?

¹⁰ I wept and my soule fasted, but that was to my reproofe. ¹¹ I put on a sacke also: and I became a prouerbe vnto them.

³ Wherefore haue we fasted, and thou seest it not? we haue punished our selues, and thou regardest it not. Beholde, in the day of your fast you will seeke your will, and require all your dettes.

⁵ Is it such a fast that I haue chosen, that a man should afflict his soule for a day, and to bowe downe his head, as a bull rush, and to lie downe in sackecloth and ashes? wilt thou call this a fasting, or an acceptable day to the Lord?

⁴⁴ But I say vnto you, Loue your enemies: blesse them that curse you: doe good to them that hate you, and pray for them which hurt you, and persecute you,

¹⁴ Then came the disciples of Iohn to him, saying, Why doe we and the Pharises fast oft, and thy disciples fast not? ¹⁵ And Iesus saide vnto them, Can the children of the marriage chamber mourne as long as the bridegrome is with them? But the daies will come, when the bridegrome shall be taken from them, and then shall they fast.

¹³ And if the house be worthy, let your peace come vpon it: but if it be not worthie, let your peace returne to you.

⁶ And if the sonne of peace be there, your peace shall rest vpon him: if not, it shall turne to you againe.

¹⁴ Blesse them which persecute you: blesse, I say, and curse not. ¹⁵ Reioyce with them that reioyce, and weepe with them that weepe.
