¹⁴ From men by thine hand, O Lord, from men of the world, who haue their portion in this life, whose bellies thou fillest with thine hid treasure: their children haue ynough, and leaue the rest of their substance for their children.

⁶ The tabernacles of robbers doe prosper, and they are in safetie, that prouoke God, whome God hath enriched with his hand.

⁹ Who is ignorant of all these, but that the hande of the Lord hath made these?

⁷ Wherefore do the wicked liue, and waxe olde, and grow in wealth? ⁸ Their seede is established in their sight with them, and their generation before their eyes. ⁹ Their houses are peaceable without feare, and the rod of God is not vpon them. ¹⁰ Their bullocke gendreth, and fayleth not: their cow calueth, and casteth not her calfe. ¹¹ They send forth their children like sheepe, and their sonnes dance. ¹² They take the tabret and harpe, and reioyce in the sound of the organs. ¹³ They spend their dayes in wealth, and suddenly they go downe to the graue. ¹⁴ They say also vnto God, Depart from vs: for we desire not the knowledge of thy wayes. ¹⁵ Who is the Almightie, that we should serue him? and what profit should we haue, if we should pray vnto him?

²¹ For what pleasure hath he in his house after him, when the nomber of his moneths is cut off?

¹⁸ Yet hee filled their houses with good things: but let the counsell of the wicked be farre from me.

¹⁴ If his children be in great nomber, the sworde shall destroy them, and his posteritie shall not be satisfied with bread. ¹⁵ His remnant shall be buried in death, and his widowes shall not weepe. ¹⁶ Though he shoulde heape vp siluer as the dust, and prepare rayment as the clay, ¹⁷ He may prepare it, but the iust shall put it on, and the innocent shall deuide the siluer.

⁶ Doubtlesse man walketh in a shadowe, and disquieteth himselfe in vaine: he heapeth vp riches, and cannot tell who shall gather them.

¹⁷ For he shall take nothing away when he dieth, neither shall his pompe descende after him. ¹⁸ For while he liued, he reioyced himselfe: and men will prayse thee, when thou makest much of thy selfe. ¹⁹ He shall enter into the generation of his fathers, and they shall not liue for euer.

³ For I feared at the foolish, when I sawe the prosperitie of the wicked. ⁴ For there are no bandes in their death, but they are lustie and strong. ⁵ They are not in trouble as other men, neither are they plagued with other men. ⁶ Therefore pride is as a chayne vnto them, and crueltie couereth them as a garment. ⁷ Their eyes stande out for fatnesse: they haue more then heart can wish.

¹² Lo, these are the wicked, yet prosper they alway, and increase in riches.

⁴ If thou seekest her as siluer, and searchest for her as for treasures,

⁴⁴ Againe, the kingdom of heauen is like vnto a treasure hid in ye field, which when a man hath found, he hideth it, and for ioy thereof departeth and selleth all that he hath, and buieth that field.

¹⁹ And I wil say to my soule, Soule, thou hast much goods laide vp for many yeeres: liue at ease, eate, drinke and take thy pastime. ²⁰ But God said vnto him, O foole, this night wil they fetch away thy soule from thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast prouided? ²¹ So is he that gathereth riches to himselfe, and is not riche in God.

⁸ And the Lord commended the vniust stewarde, because he had done wisely. Wherefore the children of this worlde are in their generation wiser then the children of light.

²⁵ But Abraham saide, Sonne, remember that thou in thy life time receiuedst thy pleasures, and likewise Lazarus paines: now therefore is he comforted, and thou art tormented.

²⁷ Then he said, I pray thee therfore, father, that thou wouldest sende him to my fathers house, ²⁸ (For I haue fiue brethren) that he may testifie vnto them, least they also come into this place of torment.

²³ And hee saide vnto them, Ye are from beneath, I am from aboue: ye are of this world, I am not of this worlde.

¹⁹ If ye were of the worlde, the world woulde loue his owne: but because ye are not of ye world, but I haue chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

¹⁴ I haue giuen them thy word, and the world hath hated them, because they are not of the world, as I am not of the world.

⁵ Ye haue liued in pleasure on the earth, and in wantonnes. Ye haue nourished your heartes, as in a day of slaughter.

⁴ Litle children, ye are of God, and haue ouercome them: for greater is he that is in you, then he that is in this world. ⁵ They are of this worlde, therefore speake they of this world, and this world heareth them.
