⁶⁵ For the Lord said of them, They shall die in the wildernes: so there was not left a man of them, saue Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh, and Ioshua the sonne of Nun.

³⁷ Then the children of Israel tooke their iourney from Rameses to Succoth about sixe hundreth thousand men of foote, beside children.

²³ Certainely they shall not see the lande, whereof I sware vnto their fathers: neither shall any that prouoke me, see it. ²⁴ But my seruant Caleb, because he had another spirite, and hath followed me stil, euen him will I bring into the lande, whither he went, and his seede shall inherite it.

²⁸ Tell them, As I liue (saith the Lord) I wil surely do vnto you, euen as ye haue spoken in mine eares. ²⁹ Your carkeises shall fall in this wildernes, and all you that were counted through all your nombers, from twentie yeere olde and aboue, which haue murmured against me, ³⁰ Ye shall not doubtles come into the land, for the which I lifted vp mine hande, to make you dwell therein, saue Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh, and Ioshua the sonne of Nun.

³⁵ I the Lord haue said, Certainely I will doe so to all this wicked company, that are gathered together against me: for in this wildernesse they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

³⁸ But Ioshua the sonne of Nun, and Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh, of those men that went to search the land, shall liue.

¹⁴ The space also wherein we came from Kadesh-barnea, vntill we were come ouer the riuer Zered, was eight and thirtie yeeres, vntill all the generation of the men of warre were wasted out from among the hoste, as the Lord sware vnto them. ¹⁵ For in deede the hand of the Lord was against them, to destroy them from among the hoste, till they were consumed.

⁴⁹ Goe vp into the mountaine of Abarim, vnto the mount Nebo, which is in the lande of Moab, that is ouer against Iericho: and beholde the lande of Canaan, which I giue vnto the children of Israel for a possession, ⁵⁰ And die in the mount which thou goest vp vnto, and thou shalt be gathered vnto thy people, as Aaron thy brother died in mount Hor, and was gathered vnto his people,

⁶ Then the children of Iudah came vnto Ioshua in Gilgal: and Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh the Kenezite saide vnto him, Thou knowest what the Lord saide vnto Moses the man of God, concerning me and thee in Kadesh-barnea. ⁷ Fourtie yeere olde was I, when Moses the seruant of the Lord sent me from Kadesh-barnea to espie the land, and I brought him word againe, as I thought in mine heart. ⁸ But my brethren that went vp with me, discouraged the heart of the people: yet I followed still the Lord my God. ⁹ Wherefore Moses sware the same day, saying, Certainely the land whereon thy feete haue troden, shalbe thine inheritance, and thy childrens for euer, because thou hast followed constantly the Lord my God. ¹⁰ Therefore beholde nowe, the Lord hath kept me aliue, as he promised: this is the fourtie and fift yeere since the Lord spake this thing vnto Moses, while the children of Israel wandered in the wildernes: and nowe loe, I am this day foure score and fiue yeere olde:

³ Thou turnest man to destruction: againe thou sayest, Returne, ye sonnes of Adam. ⁴ For a thousande yeeres in thy sight are as yesterday when it is past, and as a watch in the night. ⁵ Thou hast ouerflowed them: they are as a sleepe: in the morning he groweth like the grasse: ⁶ In the morning it florisheth and groweth, but in the euening it is cut downe and withereth. ⁷ For we are consumed by thine anger, and by thy wrath are we troubled.

²² Beholde therefore the bountifulnesse, and seueritie of God: towarde them which haue fallen, seueritie: but toward thee, bountifulnesse, if thou continue in his bountifulnesse: or els thou shalt also be cut off.

⁵ But with many of them God was not pleased: for they were ouerthrowen in ye wildernes. ⁶ Nowe these things are our ensamples, to the intent that we should not lust after euil things as they also lusted.

¹⁷ But with whome was he displeased fourtie yeeres? Was hee not displeased with them that sinned, whose carkeises fell in the wildernes? ¹⁸ And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but vnto them that obeyed not?

⁵ I wil therfore put you in remebrance, forasmuch as ye once knew this, how that the Lord, after that he had deliuered the people out of Egypt, destroied them afterward which beleeued not.
