¹⁵ Therefore if thou deale thus with mee, I pray thee, if I haue founde fauour in thy sight, kill me, that I behold not my miserie.

³² Therefore now if thou pardon their sinne, thy mercy shall appeare: but if thou wilt not, I pray thee, rase me out of thy booke, which thou hast written.

⁴ But he went a dayes iourney into the wildernesse, and came and sate downe vnder a iuniper tree, and desired that he might die, and sayde, It is now ynough: O Lord, take my soule, for I am no better then my fathers.

²⁰ Wherefore is the light giuen to him that is in miserie? and life vnto them that haue heauie hearts? ²¹ Which long for death, and if it come not, they would euen search it more then treasures: ²² Which ioy for gladnes, and reioyce, when they can finde the graue.

⁸ Oh that I might haue my desire, and that God would grant me the thing that I long for! ⁹ That is, that God would destroy me: that he would let his hand go, and cut me off. ¹⁰ Then should I yet haue comfort, (though I burne with sorowe, let him not spare) because I haue not denyed the wordes of the Holy one.

¹⁸ Why is mine heauines continuall? and my plague desperate and cannot be healed? why art thou vnto me as a lyar, and as waters that faile?

¹⁸ How is it, that I came forth of the wombe, to see labour and sorowe, that my dayes shoulde be consumed with shame?

³ Therefore nowe O Lord, take, I beseech thee, my life from me: for it is better for me to die then to liue.

⁸ And when the sunne did arise, God prepared also a feruent East winde: and the sunne beat vpon the head of Ionah, that he fainted, and wished in his heart to die, and said, It is better for me to dye, then to liue. ⁹ And God said vnto Ionah, Doest thou well to be angrie for the gourde? And he said, I doe well to be angrie vnto the death.

¹⁵ The Lord hath taken away thy iudgements: hee hath cast out thine enemie: the King of Israel, euen the Lord is in the middes of thee: thou shalt see no more euill.

²⁰ As I feruently looke for, and hope, that in nothing I shalbe ashamed, but that with all confidence, as alwayes, so nowe Christ shalbe magnified in my body, whether it be by life or by death. ²¹ For Christ is to me both in life, and in death aduantage. ²² And whether to liue in the flesh were profitable for me, and what to chuse I knowe not. ²³ For I am distressed betweene both, desiring to be loosed and to be with Christ, which is best of all. ²⁴ Neuerthelesse, to abide in the flesh, is more needefull for you.

⁴ And let patience haue her perfect worke, that ye may be perfect and entier, lacking nothing.
