⁴ Blessed are they that mourne: for they shall be comforted.

¹ To him that excelleth on Neginoth upon the eith tune. A Psalme of Dauid. O lord, rebuke me not in thine anger, neither chastise me in thy wrath. ² Haue mercie vpon me, O Lord, for I am weake: O Lord heale me, for my bones are vexed. ³ My soule is also sore troubled: but Lord how long wilt thou delay? ⁴ Returne, O Lord: deliuer my soule: saue me for thy mercies sake. ⁵ For in death there is no remembrance of thee: in the graue who shall prayse thee? ⁶ I fainted in my mourning: I cause my bed euery night to swimme, and water my couch with my teares. ⁷ Mine eye is dimmed for despight, and sunke in because of all mine enemies. ⁸ Away from mee all ye workers of iniquitie: for the Lord hath heard the voyce of my weeping. ⁹ The Lord hath heard my petition: the Lord will receiue my prayer.

Howe long wilt thou forget me, O Lord, for euer? howe long wilt thou hide thy face from me? ² How long shall I take counsell within my selfe, hauing wearinesse dayly in mine heart? how long shall mine enemie be exalted aboue me? ³ Beholde, and heare mee, O Lord my God: lighten mine eyes, that I sleepe not in death: ⁴ Lest mine enemie say, I haue preuailed against him: and they that afflict me, reioyce when I slide. ⁵ But I trust in thy mercie: mine heart shall reioyce in thy saluation: I will sing to the Lord, because he hath delt louingly with me.

⁷ For thou Lord of thy goodnes hadest made my mountaine to stande strong: but thou didest hide thy face, and I was troubled. ⁸ Then cried I vnto thee, O Lord, and praied to my Lord. ⁹ What profite is there in my blood, when I go downe to the pit? shall the dust giue thankes vnto thee? or shall it declare thy trueth? ¹⁰ Heare, O Lord, and haue mercy vpon me: Lord, be thou mine helper. ¹¹ Thou hast turned my mourning into ioy: thou hast loosed my sacke and girded mee with gladnesse.

³ When I helde my tongue, my bones consumed, or when I roared all the day, ⁴ (For thine hand is heauie vpon me, day and night: and my moysture is turned into ye drought of summer. Selah) ⁵ Then I acknowledged my sinne vnto thee, neither hid I mine iniquitie: for I thought, I will confesse against my selfe my wickednesse vnto the Lord, and thou forgauest the punishment of my sinne. Selah. ⁶ Therefore shall euery one, that is godly, make his prayer vnto thee in a time, when thou mayest be founde: surely in the flood of great waters they shall not come neere him. ⁷ Thou art my secret place: thou preseruest me from trouble: thou compassest me about with ioyfull deliuerance. Selah.

¹ To him that excelleth. A Psalme of David. I Waited paciently for the Lord, and he inclined vnto me, and heard my cry. ² Hee brought mee also out of the horrible pit, out of the myrie clay, and set my feete vpon the rocke, and ordered my goings. ³ And he hath put in my mouth a new song of praise vnto our God: many shall see it and feare, and shall trust in the Lord.

²⁹ When I am poore and in heauinesse, thine helpe, O God, shall exalt me. ³⁰ I will praise the Name of God with a song, and magnifie him with thankesgiuing.

³ When the snares of death copassed me, and the griefes of the graue caught me: when I founde trouble and sorowe. ⁴ Then I called vpon the Name of the Lord, saying, I beseech thee, O Lord, deliuer my soule. ⁵ The Lord is mercifull and righteous, and our God is full of compassion. ⁶ The Lord preserueth the simple: I was in miserie and he saued me. ⁷ Returne vnto thy rest, O my soule: for the Lord hath bene beneficiall vnto thee,

⁵ They that sowe in teares, shall reape in ioy. ⁶ They went weeping and caried precious seede: but they shall returne with ioye and bring their sheaues.

¹ And thou shalt say in that day, O Lord, I will prayse thee: though thou wast angrie with me, thy wrath is turned away, and thou comfortest me.

⁸ He wil destroy death for euer: and the Lord God wil wipe away the teares from all faces, and the rebuke of his people will he take away out of all the earth: for the Lord hath spoken it.

¹⁹ Surely a people shall dwell in Zion, and in Ierusalem: thou shalt weepe no more: he wil certainly haue mercy vpon thee at the voyce of thy crye: when he heareth thee, he wil answere thee.

¹⁰ Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall returne and come to Zion with prayse: and euerlasting ioy shall bee vpon their heads: they shall obteine ioye and gladnesse, and sorow and mourning shall flee away.

¹⁴ Like a crane or a swallow, so did I chatter: I did mourne as a doue: mine eies were lift vp on high: O Lord, it hath oppressed me, comfort me. ¹⁵ What shall I say? for he hath said it to me, and he hath done it: I shall walke weakely all my yeeres in the bitternesse of my soule. ¹⁶ O Lord, to them that ouerliue them, and to all that are in them, the life of my spirite shalbe knowen, that thou causedst me to sleepe and hast giuen life to me. ¹⁷ Beholde, for felicitie I had bitter griefe, but it was thy pleasure to deliuer my soule from the pit of corruption: for thou hast cast all my sinnes behinde thy backe. ¹⁸ For the graue cannot confesse thee: death cannot praise thee: they that goe downe into the pit, cannot hope for thy trueth. ¹⁹ But the liuing, the liuing, he shall confesse thee, as I doe this day: the father to the children shall declare thy trueth.

¹¹ Therefore the redeemed of the Lord shall returne, and come with ioy vnto Zion, and euerlasting ioy shalbe vpon their head: they shall obtaine ioy, and gladnesse: and sorow and mourning shall flee away. ¹² I, euen I am he, that comfort you. Who art thou, that thou shouldest feare a mortall man, and the sonne of man, which shalbe made as grasse?

¹⁸ I haue seene his wayes, and wil heale him: I wil leade him also, and restore comfort vnto him, and to those that lament him.

² To preache the acceptable yeere of the Lord, and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all that mourne, ³ To appoint vnto them that mourne in Zion, and to giue vnto them beautie for ashes, the oyle of ioye for mourning, the garment of gladnesse for the spirit of heauinesse, that they might be called trees of righteousnesse, the planting of the Lord, that he might be glorified.

¹⁰ Reioyce ye with Ierusalem, and be gladde with her, all ye that loue her: reioyce for ioy with her, all ye that mourne for her,

⁹ They shall come weeping, and with mercie will I bring them againe: I will lead them by the riuers of water in a straight way, wherein they shall not stumble: for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first borne. ¹⁰ Heare the worde of the Lord, O ye Gentiles, and declare in the yles afarre off, and say, Hee that scattered Israel, wil gather him and wil keepe him, as a shepheard doeth his flocke. ¹¹ For the Lord hath redeemed Iaakob, and ransomed him from the hande of him, that was stronger then he. ¹² Therefore they shall come, and reioyce in the height of Zion, and shall runne to the bountifulnes of the Lord, euen for the wheat and for the wine, and for the oyle, and for the increase of sheepe, and bullocks: and their soule shalbe as a watered garden, and they shall haue no more sorow.

¹⁶ Thus saith the Lord, Refraine thy voyce from weeping, and thine eyes from teares: for thy worke shalbe rewarded, saith the Lord, and they shall come againe from the land of the enemie: ¹⁷ And there is hope in thine ende, saith the Lord, that thy children shall come againe to their owne borders.

¹⁶ But they that flee away from them, shall escape, and shalbe in the mountaines, like the doues of the valleis: all they shall mourne, euery one for his iniquitie.

⁴ And the Lord said vnto him, Goe through the middes of the citie, euen through the middes of Ierusalem and set a marke vpon the foreheads of them that mourne, and cry for all the abominations that be done in the middes thereof.

¹⁰ And I will powre vpon the house of Dauid, and vpon the inhabitants of Ierusalem the Spirite of grace and of compassion, and they shall looke vpon me, whom they haue pearced, and they shall lament for him, as one mourneth for his onely sonne, and be sorie for him as one is sorie for his first borne.

²¹ Blessed are ye that hunger nowe: for ye shalbe satisfied: blessed are ye that weepe now: for ye shall laugh.

²⁵ Wo be to you that are full: for ye shall hunger. Wo be to you that now laugh: for ye shall wayle and weepe.

³⁸ And shee stoode at his feete behinde him weeping, and began to wash his feete with teares, and did wipe them with the heares of her head, and kissed his feete, and anoynted them with the oyntment.

⁵⁰ And he said to the woman, Thy faith hath saued thee: goe in peace.

²⁵ But Abraham saide, Sonne, remember that thou in thy life time receiuedst thy pleasures, and likewise Lazarus paines: now therefore is he comforted, and thou art tormented.

²⁰ Verely, verely I say vnto you, that ye shall weepe and lament, and the worlde shall reioyce: and ye shall sorowe, but your sorowe shalbe turned to ioye. ²¹ A woman when she traueileth, hath sorowe, because her houre is come: but assoone as she is deliuered of the childe, she remembreth no more the anguish, for ioy that a man is borne into the world. ²² And ye nowe therefore are in sorowe: but I will see you againe, and your hearts shall reioyce, and your ioy shall no man take from you.

⁴ Which comforteth vs in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any affliction by the comfort wherewith we our selues are comforted of God. ⁵ For as the sufferings of Christ abounde in vs, so our consolation aboundeth through Christ. ⁶ And whether we be afflicted, it is for your consolation and saluation, which is wrought in the induring of the same sufferings, which we also suffer: or whether we be comforted, it is for your consolation and saluation. ⁷ And our hope is stedfast concerning you, in as much as we know that as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so shall ye be also of the consolation.

⁹ I nowe reioyce, not that ye were sorie, but that ye sorowed to repentance: for ye sorowed godly, so that in nothing ye were hurt by vs. ¹⁰ For godly sorowe causeth repentance vnto saluation, not to be repented of: but the worldly sorowe causeth death.

¹² Blessed is ye man, that endureth tentation: for when he is tried, hee shall receiue the crowne of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that loue him.

¹⁴ And I saide vnto him, Lord, thou knowest. And he saide to me, These are they, which came out of great tribulation, and haue washed their long robes, and haue made their long robes white in the blood of the Lambe. ¹⁵ Therefore are they in the presence of the throne of God, and serue him day and night in his Temple, and he that sitteth on the throne, wil dwell among them. ¹⁶ They shall hunger no more, neither thirst any more, neither shall the sunne light on them, neither any heate. ¹⁷ For the Lambe, which is in the middes of the throne, shall gouerne them, and shall leade them vnto the liuely fountaines of waters, and God shall wipe away all teares from their eyes.

⁴ And God shall wipe away all teares from their eyes: and there shalbe no more death, neither sorow, neither crying, neither shall there be any more paine: for the first things are passed.
