²⁸ But I say vnto you, that whosoeuer looketh on a woman to lust after her, hath committed adulterie with her already in his heart.

⁷ Nowe therefore after these thinges, his masters wife cast her eyes vpon Ioseph, and saide, Lye with me. ⁸ But he refused and said to his masters wife, Beholde, my master knoweth not what he hath in the house with me, but hath committed all that he hath to mine hande. ⁹ There is no man greater in this house then I: neither hath he kept any thing from me, but only thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickednes and so sinne against God? ¹⁰ And albeit she spake to Ioseph day by day, yet he hearkened not vnto her, to lye with her, or to be in her company. ¹¹ Then on a certaine day Ioseph entred into the house, to doe his businesse: and there was no man of the houshold in the house: ¹² Therefore she caught him by his garmet, saying, Sleepe with me: but he left his garment in her hand and fled, and got him out. ¹³ Nowe when she sawe that he had left his garment in her hand, and was fled out, ¹⁴ She called vnto the men of her house, and tolde them, saying, Beholde, he hath brought in an Ebrewe vnto vs to mocke vs: who came in to me for to haue slept with me: but I cryed with a loude voyce. ¹⁵ And when he heard that I lift vp my voice and cryed, he left his garment with me, and fled away, and got him out. ¹⁶ So she layde vp his garment by her, vntill her lord came home. ¹⁷ Then she tolde him according to these words, saying, The Ebrew seruat, which thou hast brought vnto vs, came in to me, to mocke me. ¹⁸ But assoone as I lift vp my voyce and cried, he left his garment with me, and fled out. ¹⁹ Then when his master heard the wordes of his wife, which she tolde him, saying, After this maner did thy seruant to me, his anger was kindled. ²⁰ And Iosephs master tooke him and put him in prison, in the place, where the kings prisoners lay bounde: and there he was in prison. ²¹ But the Lord was with Ioseph, and shewed him mercie, and got him fauour in the sight of the master of the prison. ²² And the keeper of the prison committed to Iosephs hande all the prisoners that were in the prison, and whatsoeuer they did there, that did he. ²³ And the keeper of the prison looked vnto nothing that was vnder his hande, seeing that the Lord was with him: for whatsoeuer he did, the Lord made it to prosper.

¹⁷ Thou shalt not couet thy neighbours house, neither shalt thou couet thy neighbours wife, nor his man seruant, nor his mayde, nor his oxe, nor his asse, neyther any thing that is thy neighbours.

² And when it was euening tide, Dauid arose out of his bed, and walked vpon the roofe of the Kings palace: and from the roofe he sawe a woman washing her selfe: and the woman was very beautifull to looke vpon.

¹ I made a couenant with mine eyes: why then should I thinke on a mayde?

⁹ If mine heart hath bene deceiued by a woman, or if I haue layde wayte at the doore of my neighbour,

⁹⁶ I haue seene an ende of all perfection: but thy commandement is exceeding large.

²⁵ Desire not her beautie in thine heart, neither let her take thee with her eye lids.

²² But I say vnto you, whosoeuer is angry with his brother vnaduisedly, shalbe culpable of iudgment. And whosoeuer sayth vnto his brother, Raca, shalbe worthy to be punished by the Councill. And whosoeuer shall say, Foole, shalbe worthy to be punished with hell fire.

³⁹ But I say vnto you, Resist not euill: but whosoeuer shall smite thee on thy right cheeke, turne to him the other also.

²⁸ And it came to passe, when Iesus had ended these wordes, the people were astonied at his doctrine. ²⁹ For he taught them as one hauing authoritie, and not as the Scribes.

⁷ What shall we say then? Is the Lawe sinne? God forbid. Nay, I knewe not sinne, but by the Lawe: for I had not knowen lust, except the Lawe had sayd, Thou shalt not lust. ⁸ But sinne tooke an occasion by ye commandement, and wrought in me all maner of concupiscence: for without the Lawe sinne is dead.

¹⁴ For we knowe that the Law is spirituall, but I am carnall, solde vnder sinne.

¹⁴ But euery man is tempted, when hee is drawen away by his owne concupiscence, and is entised. ¹⁵ Then when lust hath conceiued, it bringeth foorth sinne, and sinne when it is finished, bringeth foorth death.

¹⁴ Hauing eyes full of adulterie, and that can not cease to sinne, beguiling vnstable soules: they haue heartes exercised with couetousnesse, they are the children of curse:

¹⁶ For all that is in this world (as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life) is not of the Father, but is of this world.
