³ All therefore whatsoeuer they bid you obserue, that obserue and doe: but after their workes doe not: for they say, and doe not.

¹⁹ Heare nowe my voyce, (I will giue thee counsell, and God shalbe with thee) be thou for the people to Godwarde, and report thou the causes vnto God, ²⁰ And admonish them of the ordinances, and of the lawes, and shew them the way, wherein they must walke, and the worke that they must do.

²³ If thou do this thing, (and God so command thee) both thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people shall also go quietly to their place.

⁵ Behold, I haue taught you ordinances, and lawes, as the Lord my God commanded me, that ye should doe euen so within the land whither ye goe to possesse it.

²⁷ Go thou neere and heare all that the Lord our God saith: and declare thou vnto vs all that the Lord our God saith vnto thee, and we will heare it, and doe it.

⁹ And thou shalt come vnto the Priestes of the Leuites, and vnto the iudge that shall be in those daies, and aske, and they shall shewe thee the sentence of iudgement, ¹⁰ And thou shalt do according to that thing which they of that place (which the Lord hath chosen) shewe thee, and thou shalt obserue to doe according to all that they informe thee. ¹¹ According to the Lawe, which they shall teach thee, and according to the iudgement which they shall tell thee, shalt thou doe: thou shalt not decline from the thing which they shall shew thee, neither to the right hand, nor to the left. ¹² And that man that wil doe presumptuously, not hearkening vnto the Priest (that standeth before the Lord thy God to minister there) or vnto the iudge, that man shall die, and thou shalt take away euill from Israel.

¹² And the hand of God was in Iudah, so that he gaue them one heart to doe the commandement of the King, and of the rulers, according to the worde of the Lord.

¹⁶ But vnto the wicked said God, What hast thou to doe to declare mine ordinances, that thou shouldest take my couenant in thy mouth, ¹⁷ Seeing thou hatest to bee reformed, and hast cast my wordes behinde thee? ¹⁸ For when thou seest a thiefe, thou runnest with him, and thou art partaker with the adulterers. ¹⁹ Thou giuest thy mouth to euill, and with thy tongue thou forgest deceit. ²⁰ Thou sittest, and speakest against thy brother, and slanderest thy mothers sonne.

² Why do thy disciples transgresse the tradition of the Elders? for they wash not their hands when they eate bread. ³ But he answered and said vnto them, Why doe yee also transgresse the commandement of God by your tradition? ⁴ For God hath commanded, saying, Honour thy father and mother: and he that curseth father or mother, let him die the death. ⁵ But ye say, Whosoeuer shall say to father or mother, By the gift that is offered by me, thou maiest haue profite, ⁶ Though hee honour not his father, or his mother, shalbe free: thus haue ye made the commandement of God of no aucthoritie by your tradition. ⁷ O hypocrites, Esaias prophecied well of you, saying, ⁸ This people draweth neere vnto me with their mouth, and honoureth me with the lips, but their heart is farre off from me. ⁹ But in vaine they worship me, teaching for doctrines, mens precepts.

³⁰ Then came he to the second, and said likewise. And he answered, and said, I will, Syr: yet he went not.

²⁹ Then Peter and the Apostles answered, and sayd, We ought rather to obey God then men.

¹⁹ And persuadest thy selfe that thou art a guide of the blinde, a light of them which are in darkenesse, ²⁰ An instructer of them which lacke discretion, a teacher of the vnlearned, which hast the forme of knowledge, and of the truth in ye Law. ²¹ Thou therefore, which teachest another, teachest thou not thy selfe? thou that preachest, A man should not steale, doest thou steale? ²² Thou that saist, A man should not commit adulterie, doest thou commit adulterie? thou that abhorrest idoles, committest thou sacrilege? ²³ Thou that gloriest in the Lawe, through breaking the Lawe, dishonourest thou God? ²⁴ For ye Name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles through you, as it is written.

¹ Let euery soule be subiect vnto the higher powers: for there is no power but of God: and the powers that be, are ordeined of God.

⁵ Hauing a shewe of godlinesse, but haue denied the power thereof: turne away therefore from such.

¹⁶ They professe that they know God, but by works they deny him, and are abominable and disobedient, and vnto euery good worke reprobate.
