²⁴ And his disciples were afraide at his words. But Iesus answered againe, and sayd vnto them, Children, how hard is it for them that trust in riches, to enter into the kingdome of God!

²⁴ If I made gold mine hope, or haue sayd to the wedge of golde, Thou art my confidence, ²⁵ If I reioyced because my substance was great, or because mine hand had gotten much,

¹⁴ From men by thine hand, O Lord, from men of the world, who haue their portion in this life, whose bellies thou fillest with thine hid treasure: their children haue ynough, and leaue the rest of their substance for their children.

⁶ They trust in their goods, and boast them selues in the multitude of their riches. ⁷ Yet a man can by no meanes redeeme his brother: he can not giue his raunsome to God,

⁷ Beholde the man that tooke not God for his strength, but trusted vnto the multitude of his riches, and put his strength in his malice.

¹⁰ Trust not in oppression nor in robberie: be not vaine: if riches increase, set not your heart thereon.

²⁸ He that trusteth in his riches, shall fall: but the righteous shall florish as a leafe.

¹¹ The rich mans riches are his strong citie: and as an hie wall in his imagination.

⁵ Wilt thou cast thine eyes vpon it, which is nothing? for riches taketh her to her wings, as an eagle, and flyeth into the heauen.

²³ Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisedome, nor the strong man glorie in his strength, neyther the riche man glorie in his riches.

⁴ With thy wisedome and thine vnderstanding thou hast gotten thee riches, and hast gotten golde and siluer into thy treasures. ⁵ By thy great wisedome and by thine occupying hast thou increased thy riches, and thine heart is lifted vp because of thy riches.

⁹ Ho, he that coueteth an euil couetousnesse to his house, that he may set his nest on hie, to escape from the power of euil.

¹⁸ Neither their siluer nor their golde shalbe able to deliuer them in ye day of the Lords wrath, but the whole lande shalbe deuoured by the fire of his ielousie: for hee shall make euen a speedie riddance of all them that dwell in the land.

²⁵ And whe his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amased, saying, Who then can be saued?

¹⁶ And he put foorth a parable vnto them, saying, The grounde of a certaine riche man brought foorth fruites plenteously. ¹⁷ Therefore he thought with himselfe, saying, What shall I doe, because I haue no roume, where I may lay vp my fruites? ¹⁸ And he said, This wil I do, I wil pul downe my barnes, and builde greater, and therein will I gather all my fruites, and my goods. ¹⁹ And I wil say to my soule, Soule, thou hast much goods laide vp for many yeeres: liue at ease, eate, drinke and take thy pastime. ²⁰ But God said vnto him, O foole, this night wil they fetch away thy soule from thee: then whose shall those things be which thou hast prouided? ²¹ So is he that gathereth riches to himselfe, and is not riche in God.

¹⁴ All these thinges heard the Pharises also which were couetous, and they scoffed at him.

²⁶ Then said they that heard it, And who then can be saued? ²⁷ And he said, The things which are vnpossible with men, are possible with God.

⁶⁰ Many therefore of his disciples (when they heard this) sayde, This is an hard saying: who can heare it?

³³ Litle children, yet a litle while am I with you: ye shall seeke me, but as I sayde vnto the Iewes, Whither I goe, can ye not come: also to you say I nowe,

⁵ Iesus then said vnto them, Syrs, haue ye any meate? They answered him, No.

¹⁹ My litle children, of whome I trauaile in birth againe, vntill Christ be formed in you.

¹⁷ Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not high minded, and that they trust not in vncertaine riches, but in the liuing God, (which giueth vs aboundantly, all things to enioy)

¹ Goe to nowe, ye rich men: weepe, and howle for your miseries that shall come vpon you. ² Your riches are corrupt, and your garments are moth eaten. ³ Your gold and siluer is cankred, and the rust of them shalbe a witnesse against you, and shall eate your flesh, as it were fire. Ye haue heaped vp treasure for the last dayes.

¹ My little children, these things write I vnto you, that ye sinne not: and if any man sinne, wee haue an Aduocate with the Father, Iesus Christ, the Iust.

⁴ Litle children, ye are of God, and haue ouercome them: for greater is he that is in you, then he that is in this world.

²¹ Litle children, keepe your selues from idoles, Amen.

¹⁷ For thou saiest, I am rich and increased with goods, and haue neede of nothing, and knowest not howe thou art wretched and miserable, and poore, and blinde, and naked.
