¹ And Iesus full of the holy Ghost returned from Iordan, and was led by that Spirit into the wildernes,

¹² And when I am gone from thee, the Spirit of the Lord shall cary thee into some place that I doe not know: so when I come and tell Ahab, if he cannot finde thee, then wil he kill me: But I thy seruant feare the Lord from my youth.

⁴ But he went a dayes iourney into the wildernesse, and came and sate downe vnder a iuniper tree, and desired that he might die, and sayde, It is now ynough: O Lord, take my soule, for I am no better then my fathers.

² And the Spirite of the Lord shall rest vpon him: the Spirite of wisedome and vnderstanding, the Spirite of counsell and strength, the Spirite of knowledge, and of the feare of the Lord, ³ And shall make him prudent in the feare of the Lord: for he shall not iudge after the sight of his eies, neither reproue by ye hearing of his eares. ⁴ But with righteousnesse shall he iudge the poore, and with equitie shall he reprooue for the meeke of the earth: and he shall smite the earth with the rod of his mouth, and with the breath of his lippes shall he slay the wicked.

¹ The Spirit of the Lord God is vpon mee, therefore hath the Lord anoynted mee: hee hath sent mee to preache good tidings vnto the poore, to binde vp the broken hearted, to preach libertie to the captiues, and to them that are bound, the opening of the prison,

¹⁴ So the spirit lift me vp, and tooke me away and I went in bitternesse, and indignation of my spirite, but the hand of the Lord was strong vpon me.

¹⁶ And Iesus when hee was baptized, came straight out of the water. And lo, the heaues were opened vnto him, and Iohn saw the Spirit of God descending like a doue, and lighting vpon him.

¹ Then was Iesus led aside of the Spirit into the wildernes, to be tempted of the deuil. ² And when he had fasted fourtie dayes, and fourtie nights, he was afterward hungrie. ³ Then came to him the tempter, and said, If thou be the Sonne of God, commande that these stones be made bread. ⁴ But he answering said, It is written, Man shall not liue by bread onely, but by euery worde that proceedeth out of the mouth of God. ⁵ Then the deuil tooke him vp into the holy Citie, and set him on a pinacle of the temple, ⁶ And said vnto him, If thou be the Sonne of God, cast thy selfe downe: for it is written, that he wil giue his Angels charge ouer thee, and with their hands they shall lift thee vp, lest at any time thou shouldest dash thy foote against a stone. ⁷ Iesus saide vnto him, It is written againe, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God. ⁸ Againe the deuil tooke him vp into an exceeding hie mountaine, and shewed him all the kingdomes of the world, and the glory of them, ⁹ And sayd to him, All these will I giue thee, if thou wilt fall downe, and worship me. ¹⁰ Then sayd Iesus vnto him, Auoyde Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him onely shalt thou serue. ¹¹ Then the deuill left him: and beholde, the Angels came, and ministred vnto him.

¹² And immediatly the Spirite driueth him into the wildernesse. ¹³ And he was there in the wildernesse fourtie daies, and was tempted of Satan: hee was also with the wilde beastes, and the Angels ministred vnto him.

²⁷ And he came by the motion of the spirit into the Temple, and when the parents brought in the babe Iesus, to do for him after the custome of the Lawe,

³ And hee came into all the coastes about Iordan, preaching the baptisme of repentance for the remission of sinnes,

²¹ Nowe it came to passe, as all the people were baptized, and that Iesus was baptized and did pray, that the heauen was opened: ²² And the holy Ghost came downe in a bodily shape like a doue, vpon him, and there was a voyce from heauen, saying, Thou art my beloued Sonne: in thee I am well pleased.

¹⁴ And Iesus returned by the power of the spirite into Galile: and there went a fame of him throughout all the region round about.

¹⁸ The Spirit of the Lord is vpon mee, because he hath anoynted me, that I should preach the Gospel to the poore: he hath sent mee, that I should heale the broken hearted, that I should preach deliuerance to the captiues, and recouering of sight to the blinde, that I should set at libertie them that are bruised:

³² So Iohn bare recorde, saying, I behelde that Spirit come downe from heauen, like a doue, and it abode vpon him,

³⁴ For hee whome God hath sent, speaketh the woordes of God: for God giueth him not the Spirit by measure.

² Vntill the day that hee was taken vp, after that hee through the holy Ghost, had giuen commandements vnto the Apostles, whome hee had chosen:

³⁹ And assoone as they were come vp out of the water, the Spirit of the Lord caught away Philip, that the Eunuche sawe him no more: so he went on his way reioycing.

³⁸ To wit, howe God anointed Iesus of Nazareth with the holy Ghost, and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the deuill: for God was with him.
