² Saying, There was a iudge in a certaine citie, which feared not God, neither reuereced man.

²¹ Moreouer, prouide thou among al the people men of courage, fearing God, men dealing truely, hating couetousnesse: and appoynt such ouer them to be rulers ouer thousandes, rulers ouer hundreths, rulers ouer fifties, and rulers ouer tennes. ²² And let them iudge the people at all seasons: but euery great matter let them bring vnto thee, and let them iudge all small causes: so shall it be easier for thee, when they shall beare the burden with thee.

³ Neuertheles good things are found in thee, because thou hast taken away ye groues out of the land, and hast prepared thine heart to seeke God. ⁴ So Iehoshaphat dwelt at Ierusalem, and returned and went through the people from Beer-sheba to mount Ephraim, and brought them againe vnto the Lord God of their fathers. ⁵ And hee set iudges in the lande throughout all the strong cities of Iudah, citie by citie, ⁶ And said to the iudges, Take heede what ye doe: for yee execute not the iudgements of man, but of the Lord, and he will be with you in the cause and iudgement. ⁷ Wherefore nowe let the feare of the Lord be vpon you: take heede, and do it: for there is no iniquitie with the Lord our God, neither respect of persons, nor receiuing of reward. ⁸ Moreouer in Ierusalem did Iehoshaphat set of the Leuites, and of the Priests and of the chiefe of the families of Israel, for the iudgement and cause of the Lord: and they returned to Ierusale. ⁹ And he charged them, saying, Thus shall yee doe in the feare of the Lord faithfully and with a perfite heart.

⁷ When I went out to the gate, euen to the iudgement seat, and when I caused them to prepare my seate in the streete. ⁸ The yong men saw me, and hid themselues, and the aged arose, and stood vp. ⁹ The princes stayed talke, and layde their hand on their mouth. ¹⁰ The voyce of princes was hidde, and their tongue cleaued to the roofe of their mouth. ¹¹ And when the eare heard me, it blessed me: and when the eye sawe me, it gaue witnesse to me. ¹² For I deliuered the poore that cryed, and the fatherlesse, and him that had none to helpe him. ¹³ The blessing of him that was ready to perish, came vpon me, and I caused the widowes heart to reioyce. ¹⁴ I put on iustice, and it couered me: my iudgement was as a robe, and a crowne. ¹⁵ I was the eyes to the blinde, and I was the feete to the lame. ¹⁶ I was a father vnto the poore, and when I knewe not the cause, I sought it out diligently. ¹⁷ I brake also the chawes of the vnrighteous man, and pluckt the praye out of his teeth.

¹ To him that excelleth on Gittith. A Psalme of Dauid. O Lord our Lord, how excellent is thy Name in all the worlde! which hast set thy glory aboue the heauens. ² Out of the mouth of babes and suckelings hast thou ordeined strength, because of thine enemies, that thou mightest still the enemie and the auenger. ³ When I beholde thine heauens, euen the workes of thy fingers, the moone and the starres which thou hast ordeined, ⁴ What is man, say I, that thou art mindefull of him? and the sonne of man, that thou visitest him?

⁷ The righteous knoweth the cause of the poore: but the wicked regardeth not knowledge.

⁸ The pathes are waste: the wayfaring man ceaseth: hee hath broken the couenant: hee hath contemned the cities: he regarded no man.

¹⁶ When he iudged the cause of the afflicted and the poore, he prospered: was not this because he knewe me, saith the Lord? ¹⁷ But thine eyes and thine heart are but only for thy couetousnesse, and for to sheade innocent blood, and for oppression, and for destruction, euen to doe this.

⁶ Beholde, the princes of Israel euery one in thee was ready to his power, to shed blood. ⁷ In thee haue they despised father and mother: in the middes of thee haue they oppressed the stranger: in thee haue they vexed the fatherlesse and the widowe. ⁸ Thou hast despised mine holy things, and hast polluted my Sabbaths.

¹ And I sayd, Heare, I pray you, O heads of Iaakob, and yee princes of the house of Israel: should not ye knowe iudgement? ² But they hate the good, and loue the euill: they plucke off their skinnes from them, and their flesh from their bones. ³ And they eate also the flesh of my people, and flay off their skinne from them, and they breake their bones, and chop them in pieces, as for the pot, and as flesh within the caldron.

⁴ And hee would not of a long time: but afterward he said with himselfe, Though I feare not God, nor reuerence man,

¹⁴ Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitternesse. ¹⁵ Their feete are swift to shead blood. ¹⁶ Destruction and calamity are in their waies, ¹⁷ And ye way of peace they haue not knowen. ¹⁸ The feare of God is not before their eies.
