¹⁸ But they all with one mind beganne to make excuse: The first saide vnto him, I haue bought a farme, and I must needes goe out and see it: I pray thee, haue me excused.

¹² Vnto whome hee saide, This is the rest: giue rest to him that is weary: and this is the refreshing, but they would not heare. ¹³ Therefore shall the worde of the Lord be vnto them precept vpon precept, precept vpon precept, line vnto line, line vnto line, there a litle and there a litle, that they may goe, and fall backward, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

¹¹ And the vision of them all is become vnto you, as the wordes of a booke that is sealed vp, which they deliuer to one that can reade, saying, Reade this, I pray thee. Then shall he say, I can not: for it is sealed. ¹² And the booke is giuen vnto him that can not reade, saying, Reade this, I pray thee. And he shall say, I can not reade.

⁴ Therefore I saide, Surely they are poore, they are foolish, for they know not the way of the Lord, nor the iudgement of their God. ⁵ I will get me vnto the great men, and will speake vnto them: for they haue knowen the way of the Lord, and the iudgement of their God: but these haue altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bondes.

¹⁰ Vnto whome shall I speake, and admonish that they may heare? beholde, their eares are vncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: beholde, the worde of the Lord is vnto them as a reproche: they haue no delite in it.

¹⁶ Thus sayeth the Lord, Stande in the waies and beholde, and aske for the olde way, which is the good way and walke therein, and yee shall finde rest for your soules: but they saide, We will not walke therein. ¹⁷ Also I set watchmen ouer you, which said, Take heede to the sound of the trumpet: but they said, We will not take heede.

⁵ But they made light of it, and went their wayes, one to his farme, and another about his marchandise. ⁶ And the remnant tooke his seruants, and intreated them sharpely, and slewe them.

³⁸ For as in the dayes before the flood, they did eate and drinke, marrie, and giue in mariage, vnto the day that Noe entred into the Arke, ³⁹ And knewe nothing, till the flood came, and tooke them all away, so shall also the comming of the Sonne of man be.

²⁴ And when Iesus sawe him very sorowfull, he said, With what difficultie shall they that haue riches, enter into the kingdome of God!

⁴ The baptisme of Iohn, was it from heauen, or of men? ⁵ And they reasoned within themselues, saying, If we shall say, From heauen, he will say, Why then beleeued ye him not?

¹¹ He came vnto his owne, and his owne receiued him not.

²⁵ Therefore when they agreed not among themselues, they departed, after that Paul had spoken one word, to wit, Well spake the holy Ghost by Esaias the Prophet vnto our fathers, ²⁶ Saying, Goe vnto this people, and say, By hearing ye shall heare, and shall not vnderstand, and seeing ye shall see, and not perceiue. ²⁷ For the heart of this people is waxed fatte, and their eares are dull of hearing, and with their eyes haue they winked, least they shoulde see with their eyes, and heare with their eares, and vnderstand with their heartes, and should returne that I might heale them.

⁹ For they that will be rich, fall into tentation and snares, and into many foolish and noysome lustes, which drowne men in perdition and destruction. ¹⁰ For the desire of money is the roote of all euill, which while some lusted after, they erred from the faith, and pearced themselues through with many sorowes.

⁴ And shall turne their eares from the trueth, and shalbe giuen vnto fables.

¹⁰ For Demas hath forsaken me, and hath embraced this present world, and is departed vnto Thessalonica. Crescens is gone to Galatia, Titus vnto Dalmatia.

¹⁶ Let there be no fornicator, or prophane person as Esau, which for one portion of meate solde his birthright.

¹⁵ Loue not this world, neither the things that are in this world. If any man loue this world, the loue of the Father is not in him. ¹⁶ For all that is in this world (as the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life) is not of the Father, but is of this world.
