²³ Then the Princes of the Philistims gathered them together for to offer a great sacrifice vnto Dagon their god, and to reioyce: for they said, Our god hath deliuered Samson our enemie into our handes.

² Euen the Philistims tooke ye Arke of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. ³ And when they of Ashdod rose the next day in the morning, beholde, Dagon was fallen vpon his face on the ground before the Arke of the Lord, and they tooke vp Dagon, and set him in his place againe. ⁴ Also they rose vp earely in the morning the next day, and beholde, Dagon was fallen vpon his face on the ground before the Arke of the Lord, and the head of Dagon and the two palmes of his hands were cut off vpon the thresholde: onely the stumpe of Dagon was left to him. ⁵ Therefore the Priests of Dagon, and all that come into Dagons house tread not on the thresholde of Dagon in Ashdod, vnto this day.

¹⁰ And they layd vp his armour in the house of their god, and set vp his head in the house of Dagon.

⁹ And now am I their song, and I am their talke. ¹⁰ They abhorre me, and flee farre from mee, and spare not to spit in my face.

¹⁵ But in mine aduersitie they reioyced, and gathered them selues together: the abiects assembled themselues against me, and knewe not: they tare me and ceased not, ¹⁶ With the false skoffers at bankets, gnashing their teeth against me.

¹⁷ Bee thou not glad when thine enemie falleth, and let not thine heart reioyce when hee stumbleth,

¹¹ Hath any nation changed their gods, which yet are no gods? but my people haue chaged their glorie, for that which doeth not profite.

⁵ For all people will walke euery one in the name of his God, and we will walke in the Name of the Lord our God, for euer and euer.

²³ For they turned the glorie of the incorruptible God to the similitude of the image of a corruptible man, and of birdes, and foure footed beastes, and of creeping things. ²⁴ Wherefore also God gaue them vp to their hearts lusts, vnto vncleannesse, to defile their owne bodies betweene themselues: ²⁵ Which turned the trueth of God vnto a lie, and worshipped and serued the creature, forsaking the Creator, which is blessed for euer, Amen.

⁴ Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed vnto idoles, we knowe that an idole is nothing in the worlde, and that there is none other God but one. ⁵ For though there bee that are called gods, whether in heauen, or in earth (as there be many gods, and many lords)

²⁰ Nay, but that these things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to deuils, and not vnto God: and I would not that ye should haue fellowship with the deuils.
