⁸ Mourne like a virgine girded with sackcloth for the husband of her youth.

¹⁷ Which forsaketh the guide of her youth, and forgetteth the couenant of her God.

¹² And in that day did the Lord God of hosts call vnto weeping and mourning, and to baldnes and girding with sackecloth.

⁷ The wine faileth, the vine hath no might: all that were of merie heart, doe mourne. ⁸ The mirth of tabrets ceaseth: the noyse of them that reioyce, endeth: the ioye of the harpe ceaseth. ⁹ They shall not drinke wine with mirth: strong drinke shall be bitter to them that drinke it. ¹⁰ The citie of vanitie is broken downe: euery house is shut vp, that no man may come in. ¹¹ There is a crying for wine in the streetes: al ioy is darkened: the mirth of the world is gone away. ¹² In the citie is left desolation, and the gate is smitten with destruction.

¹¹ Yee women, that are at ease, be astonied: feare, O yee carelesse women: put off the clothes: make bare, and girde sackcloth vpon the loynes.

⁴ Diddest thou not stil crie vnto me, Thou art my father, and the guide of my youth?

¹⁷ Thus sayeth the Lord of hostes, Take heede, and call for the mourning women, that they may come, and send for skilfull women that they may come, ¹⁸ And let them make haste, and let them take vp a lamentation for vs, that our eyes may cast out teares and our eye liddes gush out of water. ¹⁹ For a lamentable noyse is heard out of Zion, Howe are we destroyed, and vtterly confounded, for we haue forsaken the land, and our dwellings haue cast vs out.

¹³ Girde your selues and lament, ye Priests: howle ye ministers of the altar: come, and lie all night in sackecloth, ye ministers of my God: for the meate offring, and the drinke offring is taken away from the house of your God. ¹⁴ Sanctifie you a fast: call a solemne assemblie: gather the Elders, and all the inhabitants of the land into the House of the Lord your God, and cry vnto the Lord, ¹⁵ Alas: for the day, for the day of the Lord is at hand, and it commeth as a destruction from the Almightie.

¹² Therefore also now the Lord sayth, Turne you vnto me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning, ¹³ And rent your heart, and not your clothes: and turne vnto the Lord your God, for he is gratious, and mercifull, slowe to anger, and of great kindnes, and repenteth him of the euill. ¹⁴ Who knoweth, is he wil returne and repent and leaue a blessing behinde him, euen a meate offring, and a drinke offring vnto ye Lord your God?

¹⁰ And I will turne your feastes into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation: and I will bring sackcloth vpon all loynes, and baldnes vpon euery head: and I will make it as the mourning of an onely sonne, and the ende thereof as a bitter day.

¹⁵ And did not hee make one? yet had hee abundance of spirit: and wherefore one? because he sought a godly seede: therefore keepe your selues in your spirit, and let none trespasse against the wife of his youth.

⁸ Drawe neere to God, and he will drawe neere to you. Clense your handes, ye sinners, and purge your hearts, ye double minded. ⁹ Suffer afflictions, and sorrowe ye, and weepe: let your laughter be turned into mourning, and your ioy into heauinesse.

¹ Goe to nowe, ye rich men: weepe, and howle for your miseries that shall come vpon you.
