⁴ Or hast thou an arme like God? or doest thou thunder with a voyce like him?

²⁷ Then Abraham answered and said, Behold nowe, I haue begun to speake vnto my Lord, and I am but dust and ashes.

¹⁰ I am not worthy of the least of all the mercies, and al the trueth, which thou hast shewed vnto thy seruant: for with my staffe came I ouer this Iorden, and now haue I gotte two bads.

¹⁹ And they answered him, Holde thy peace: lay thine hande vpon thy mouth, and come with vs to be our father and Priest. Whether is it better that thou shouldest be a Priest vnto ye house of one man, or that thou shouldest be a Priest vnto a tribe and to a familie in Israel?

¹⁰ Then Dauids heart smote him, after that he had numbred the people: and Dauid said vnto the Lord, I haue sinned exceedingly in that I haue done: therefore nowe, Lord, I beseech thee, take away the trespasse of thy seruant: for I haue done very foolishly.

⁴ But he went a dayes iourney into the wildernesse, and came and sate downe vnder a iuniper tree, and desired that he might die, and sayde, It is now ynough: O Lord, take my soule, for I am no better then my fathers.

⁶ And said, O my God, I am confounded and ashamed, to lift vp mine eyes vnto thee my God: for our iniquities are increased ouer our head, and our trespasse is growen vp vnto the heauen.

¹⁵ O Lord God of Israel, thou art iust, for we haue bene reserued to escape, as appeareth this day: beholde, we are before thee in our trespasse: therfore we canot stand before thee because of it.

³³ Surely thou art iust in all that is come vpon vs: for thou hast dealt truely, but we haue done wickedly.

³¹ Yet shalt thou plunge mee in the pit, and mine owne clothes shall make me filthie. ³² For he is not a man as I am, that I shoulde answere him, if we come together to iudgement. ³³ Neyther is there any vmpire that might lay his hand vpon vs both. ³⁴ Let him take his rod away from me, and let not his feare astonish me: ³⁵ Then will I speake, and feare him not: but because I am not so, I holde me still.

²¹ Oh that a man might pleade with God, as man with his neighbour!

⁵ Marke mee, and be abashed, and lay your hand vpon your mouth.

⁴ I would pleade the cause before him, and fill my mouth with arguments. ⁵ I would knowe the wordes, that he would answere me, and would vnderstand what he would say vnto me. ⁶ Would he plead against me with his great power? No, but he would put strength in me. ⁷ There the righteous might reason with him, so I shoulde be deliuered for euer from my Iudge.

⁹ The princes stayed talke, and layde their hand on their mouth.

³⁷ I will tell him the nomber of my goings, and goe vnto him as to a prince.

⁶ Therefore I abhorre my selfe, and repent in dust and ashes.

⁹ I should haue bene dumme, and not haue opened my mouth, because thou didest it.

⁴ Against thee, against thee onely haue I sinned, and done euill in thy sight, that thou mayest be iust when thou speakest, and pure when thou iudgest. ⁵ Beholde, I was borne in iniquitie, and in sinne hath my mother conceiued me.

³² If thou hast bene foolish in lifting thy selfe vp, and if thou hast thought wickedly, lay thine hand vpon thy mouth.

⁵ Then I sayd, Wo is me: for I am vndone, because I am a man of polluted lips, and I dwell in the middes of a people of polluted lips: for mine eyes haue seene the King and Lord of hostes.

⁶ All we like sheepe haue gone astraye: wee haue turned euery one to his owne way, and the Lord hath layed vpon him the iniquitie of vs all.

⁶ But we haue all bene as an vncleane thing, and all our righteousnes is as filthie cloutes, and we all doe fade like a leafe, and our iniquities like the winde haue taken vs away.

⁵ We haue sinned, and haue committed iniquitie and haue done wickedly, yea, we haue rebelled, and haue departed from thy precepts, and from thy iudgements.

⁷ O Lord, righteousnes belongeth vnto thee, and vnto vs open shame, as appeareth this day vnto euery man of Iudah, and to the inhabitants of Ierusalem: yea, vnto all Israel, both neere and farre off, through all the countreys, whither thou hast driuen them, because of their offences, that they haue committed against thee.

¹⁶ The nations shall see, and be confounded for all their power: they shall lay their hande vpon their mouth: their eares shall be deafe.

²⁰ But the Lord is in his holy Temple: let all the earth keepe silence before him.

¹³ Let all flesh be still before the Lord: for he is raised vp out of his holy place.

⁸ Now when Simon Peter saw it, he fel down at Iesus knees, saying, Lord, go from me: for I am a sinfull man.

¹⁸ I wil rise and goe to my father, and say vnto him, Father, I haue sinned against heaue, and before thee, ¹⁹ And am no more worthy to be called thy sonne: make me as one of thy hired seruants.

¹³ But the Publican standing a farre off, woulde not lift vp so much as his eyes to heauen, but smote his brest, saying, O God, be mercifull to me a sinner.

¹⁵ This is a true saying, and by all meanes worthy to be receiued, that Christ Iesus came into the worlde to saue sinners, of whom I am chiefe.
