¹⁰ Wo is mee, my mother, that thou hast borne mee, a contentious man, and a man that striueth with the whole earth I haue neither lent on vsury, nor men haue lent vnto me on vsurie: yet euery one doeth curse me.

²⁵ If thou lende money to my people, that is, to the poore with thee, thou shalt not bee as an vsurer vnto him: yee shall not oppresse him with vsurie.

³⁶ Thou shalt take no vsurie of him, nor vantage, but thou shalt feare thy God, that thy brother may liue with thee.

¹⁹ Thou shalt not giue to vsurie to thy brother: as vsurie of money, vsurie of meate, vsurie of any thing that is put to vsurie. ²⁰ Vnto a stranger thou mayest lend vpon vsurie, but thou shalt not lend vpon vsurie vnto thy brother, that the Lord thy God may blesse thee in all that thou settest thine hand to, in the land whither thou goest to possesse it.

¹⁷ And when Ahab saw Eliiah, Ahab said vnto him, Art thou he that troubleth Israel? ¹⁸ And he answered, I haue not troubled Israel, but thou, and thy fathers house, in that ye haue forsaken the commandements of the Lord, and thou hast followed Baalim.

²⁰ And Ahab sayd to Eliiah, Hast thou found mee, O mine enemie? And he answered, I haue found thee: for thou hast solde thy selfe to worke wickednes in the sight of the Lord.

⁸ And the King of Israel said vnto Iehoshaphat, There is yet one man (Michaiah the sonne of Imlah) by whom we may aske counsel of the Lord, but I hate him: for he doeth not prophecie good vnto me, but euill. And Iehoshaphat sayd, Let not the King say so.

¹ Nowe there was a great crie of the people, and of their wiues against their brethren the Iewes. ² For there were that said, We, our sonnes and our daughters are many, therefore we take vp corne, that we may eate and liue. ³ And there were that saide, We must gage our landes, and our vineyardes, and our houses, and take vp corne for the famine. ⁴ There were also that said, We haue borowed money for the Kings tribute vpon our landes and our vineyardes. ⁵ And nowe our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, and our sonnes as their sonnes: and lo, we bring into subiection our sonnes and our daughters, as seruants, and there be of our daughters nowe in subiection, and there is no power in our handes: for other men haue our landes and our vineyardes. ⁶ Then was I very angrie when I heard their crie and these wordes.

¹ Afterward Iob opened his mouth, and cursed his day. ² And Iob cryed out, and sayd, ³ Let the day perish, wherein I was borne, and the night when it was sayde, There is a man childe conceiued. ⁴ Let that day bee darkenesse, let not God regarde it from aboue, neyther let the light shine vpon it, ⁵ But let darkenesse, and the shadowe of death staine it: let the cloude remayne vpon it, and let them make it fearefull as a bitter day. ⁶ Let darkenesse possesse that night, let it not be ioyned vnto the dayes of the yeere, nor let it come into the count of the moneths. ⁷ Yea, desolate be that night, and let no ioy be in it. ⁸ Let them that curse the day, (being readie to renue their mourning) curse it. ⁹ Let the starres of that twilight be dimme through darkenesse of it: let it looke for light, but haue none: neither let it see the dawning of the day, ¹⁰ Because it shut not vp the dores of my mothers wombe: nor hid sorowe from mine eyes. ¹¹ Why died I not in the birth? or why dyed I not, when I came out of the wombe? ¹² Why did the knees preuent me? and why did I sucke the breasts? ¹³ For so shoulde I now haue lyen and bene quiet, I should haue slept then, and bene at rest, ¹⁴ With the Kings and counselers of the earth, which haue buylded themselues desolate places: ¹⁵ Or with the princes that had golde, and haue filled their houses with siluer. ¹⁶ Or why was I not hid, as an vntimely birth, either as infants, which haue not seene the light? ¹⁷ The wicked haue there ceased from their tyrannie, and there they that laboured valiantly, are at rest. ¹⁸ The prisoners rest together, and heare not the voyce of the oppressour. ¹⁹ There are small and great, and the seruant is free from his master. ²⁰ Wherefore is the light giuen to him that is in miserie? and life vnto them that haue heauie hearts? ²¹ Which long for death, and if it come not, they would euen search it more then treasures: ²² Which ioy for gladnes, and reioyce, when they can finde the graue. ²³ Why is the light giuen to the man whose way is hid, and whom God hath hedged in? ²⁴ For my sighing commeth before I eate, and my roarings are powred out like the water. ²⁵ For the thing I feared, is come vpon me, and the thing that I was afraid of, is come vnto me. ²⁶ I had no peace, neither had I quietnesse, neither had I rest, yet trouble is come.

⁵ He that giueth not his money vnto vsurie, nor taketh reward against the innocent: hee that doeth these things, shall neuer be moued.

²⁸ Though they curse, yet thou wilt blesse: they shall arise and be confounded, but thy seruant shall reioyce.

⁵ Woe is to me that I remaine in Meschech, and dwell in the tentes of Kedar. ⁶ My soule hath too long dwelt with him that hateth peace.

² As the sparowe by flying, and the swallow by flying escape, so the curse that is causeles, shall not come.

¹⁸ For I, beholde, I this day haue made thee a defenced citie, and an yron pillar and walles of brasse against the whole lande, against the Kings of Iudah, and against the princes thereof, against the Priestes thereof and against the people of the lande. ¹⁹ For they shall fight against thee, but they shall not preuaile against thee: for I am with thee to deliuer thee, sayth the Lord.

²⁰ And I will make thee vnto this people a strong brasen wall, and they shall fight against thee, but they shall not preuaile against thee: for I am with thee to saue thee and to deliuer thee, saith ye Lord.

⁷ O Lord, thou hast deceiued me, and I am deceiued: thou art stronger then I, and hast preuailed: I am in derision daily: euery one mocketh me. ⁸ For since I spake, I cryed out of wrong, and proclaimed desolation: therefore the word of the Lord was made a reproche vnto me, and in derision daily.

¹⁴ Cursed be the day wherein I was borne: and let not the day wherein my mother bare me, be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man, that shewed my father, saying, A man child is borne vnto thee, and comforted him. ¹⁶ And let that man be as the cities, which the Lord hath ouerturned and repented not: and let him heare the cry in the morning, and the showting at noone tide, ¹⁷ Because he hath not slaine me, euen from the wombe, or that my mother might haue bene my graue, or her wobe a perpetual conception. ¹⁸ How is it, that I came forth of the wombe, to see labour and sorowe, that my dayes shoulde be consumed with shame?

⁶ And thou sonne of man, feare them not, neither be afraide of their wordes, although rebels, and thornes be with thee, and thou remainest with scorpions: feare not their wordes, nor be afrayde at their lookes, for they are a rebellious house. ⁷ Therefore thou shalt speake my words vnto them: but surely they will not heare, neither will they in deede cease: for they are rebellious.

⁷ But the house of Israel will not obey thee: for they will not obey me: yea, all the house of Israel are impudent and stiffe hearted. ⁸ Beholde, I haue made thy face strong against their faces, and thy forehead harde against their foreheads. ⁹ I haue made thy forehead as the adamant, and harder then the flint: feare them not therefore, neither be afraid at their lookes: for they are a rebellious house.

⁴⁴ But I say vnto you, Loue your enemies: blesse them that curse you: doe good to them that hate you, and pray for them which hurt you, and persecute you,

²¹ And the brother shall betray the brother to death, and the father the sonne, and the children shall rise against their parents, and shall cause them to die. ²² And yee shall be hated of all men for my Name: but he that endureth to the end, he shall be saued. ²³ And when they persecute you in this citie, flee into another: for verely I say vnto you, yee shall not goe ouer all the cities of Israel, till the Sonne of man be come.

⁹ Then shall they deliuer you vp to be afflicted, and shall kill you, and ye shall be hated of all nations for my Names sake.

³⁴ And Simeon blessed them, and saide vnto Mary his mother, Beholde, this childe is appointed for the fall and rising againe of many in Israel, and for a signe which shalbe spoken against,

²² Blessed are ye when men hate you, and when they separate you, and reuile you, and put out your name as euill, for the Sonne of mans sake.

²⁰ And brought them to the gouernours, saying, These men which are Iewes, trouble our citie, ²¹ And preache ordinances, which are not lawfull for vs to receiue, neither to obserue, seeing we are Romanes. ²² The people also rose vp together against them, and the gouernours rent their clothes, and commanded them to be beaten with roddes.

⁶ But when they found them not, they drew Iason and certaine brethren vnto the heads of the citie, crying, These are they which haue subuerted the state of the world, and here they are, ⁷ Whom Iason hath receiued, and these all doe against the decrees of Cesar, saying that there is another King, one Iesus. ⁸ Then they troubled the people, and the heads of the citie, when they heard these things.

⁸ Moreouer he went into the Synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three moneths, disputing and exhorting to the things that appertaine to the kingdome of God. ⁹ But when certaine were hardened, and disobeyed, speaking euill of the way of God before the multitude, hee departed from them, and separated the disciples, and disputed dayly in the schoole of one Tyrannus.

²⁵ Whom he called together, with the workemen of like things, and saide, Syrs, ye knowe that by this craft we haue our goods: ²⁶ Moreouer ye see and heare, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia this Paul hath perswaded, and turned away much people, saying, That they be not gods which are made with handes. ²⁷ So that not onely this thing is dangerous vnto vs, that this our portion shall be reproued, but also that the temple of the great goddesse Diana should be nothing esteemed, and that it would come to passe that her magnificence, which all Asia and the world worshippeth, should be destroyed. ²⁸ Now when they heard it, they were full of wrath, and cried out, saying, Great is Diana of the Ephesians.

²² But we will heare of thee what thou thinkest: for as concerning this sect, we knowe that euery where it is spoken against.

⁹ For I thinke that God hath set forth vs the last Apostles, as men appointed to death: for we are made a gasing stocke vnto the worlde, and to the Angels, and to men. ¹⁰ We are fooles for Christes sake, and ye are wise in Christ: we are weake, and ye are strong: ye are honourable, and we are despised. ¹¹ Vnto this houre we both hunger, and thirst, and are naked, and are buffeted, and haue no certaine dwelling place, ¹² And labour, working with our owne handes: we are reuiled, and yet we blesse: we are persecuted, and suffer it. ¹³ We are euill spoken of, and we pray: we are made as the filth of the world, the offskowring of all things, vnto this time.
