²⁴ They are exalted for a litle, but they are gone, and are brought lowe as all others: they are destroyed, and cut off as the toppe of an eare of corne.

⁵ Let them be as chaffe before the winde, and let the Angel of the Lord scatter them. ⁶ Let their way be darke and slipperie: and let the Angel of the Lord persecute them.

⁶ When the nations raged, and the kingdomes were moued, God thundred, and the earth melted. ⁷ The Lord of hostes is with vs: the God of Iaakob is our refuge. Selah. ⁸ Come, and behold the workes of the Lord, what desolations he hath made in the earth. ⁹ He maketh warres to cease vnto the endes of the world: he breaketh the bowe and cutteth the speare, and burneth the chariots with fire. ¹⁰ Be still and knowe that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, and I wil be exalted in the earth. ¹¹ The Lord of hostes is with vs: the God of Iaakob is our refuge. ⁵ The stout hearted are spoyled: they haue slept their sleepe, and all the men of strength haue not found their hands. ⁶ At thy rebuke, O God of Iaakob, both the chariot and horse are cast a sleepe. ⁷ Thou, euen thou art to be feared: and who shall stand in thy sight, when thou art angrie!

¹² But when the Lord hath accomplished all his worke vpon mount Zion and Ierusalem, I will visite the fruite of the proude heart of the King of Asshur, and his glorious and proud lookes,

¹⁶ Therefore shall the Lord God of hostes send amog his fat men, leannes, and vnder his glorie he shall kindle a burning, like the burning of fire. ¹⁷ And the light of Israel shalbe as a fire, and the Holy one thereof as a flame, and it shall burne, and deuoure his thornes and his briers in one day: ¹⁸ And shall consume the glory of his forest, and of his fruitfull fieldes both soule and flesh: and he shalbe as ye fainting of a standard bearer. ¹⁹ And the rest of the trees of his forest shalbe fewe, that a childe may tell them.

³³ Beholde, the Lord God of hostes shall cut off the bough with feare, and they of high stature shalbe cut off, and the hie shalbe humbled. ³⁴ And he shall cut away the thicke places of the forest with yron, and Lebanon shall haue a mightie fall.

³⁰ And the Lord shall cause his glorious voyce to be heard, and shall declare the lighting downe of his arme with the anger of his countenance, and flame of a deuouring fire, with scattering and tempest, and hailestones. ³¹ For with the voyce of the Lord shall Asshur be destroyed, which smote with the rod. ³² And in euery place that ye staffe shall passe, it shall cleaue fast, which the Lord shall lay vpon him with tabrets and harpes: and with battels, and lifting vp of hands shall he fight against it. ³³ For Tophet is prepared of olde: it is euen prepared for the King: hee hath made it deepe and large: the burning thereof is fire and much wood: the breath of the Lord, like a riuer of brimstone, doeth kindle it.

⁸ Then shall Asshur fall by the sworde, not of man, neither shall the sworde of man deuoure him, and hee shall flee from the sworde, and his yong men shall faint.

¹⁰ Now will I arise, saith the Lord: now will I be exalted, now will I lift vp my selfe. ¹¹ Ye shall conceiue chaffe, and bring forth stubble: the fire of your breath shall deuoure you. ¹² And the people shall be as the burning of lime: and as the thornes cut vp, shall they be burnt in the fire.

²³ But immediatly the Angel of the Lord smote him, because he gaue not glorie vnto God, so that he was eaten of wormes, and gaue vp the ghost.
