¹⁸ Least Hezekiah deceiue you, saying, The Lord wil deliuer vs. Hath any of the gods of the nations deliuered his land out of the hand of the King of Asshur?

³³ Hath any of the gods of the nations deliuered his lande out of the hand of the King of Asshur? ³⁴ Where is the god of Hamah, and of Arpad? where is the god of Sepharuaim, Hena and Iuah? how haue they deliuered Samaria out of mine hand? ³⁵ Who are they among all the gods of the nations, that haue deliuered their lande out of mine hand, that the Lord should deliuer Ierusalem out of mine hand?

¹² Haue the gods of the heathen deliuered them which my fathers haue destroyed? as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden, which were in Thelasar? ¹³ Where is the King of Hamath, and the King of Arpad, and the King of the citie of Shepharuaim, Hena and Iuah?

¹⁷ Trueth it is, Lord, that the Kings of Asshur haue destroyed the nations and their landes, ¹⁸ And haue set fire on their gods: for they were no gods, but the worke of mans hands, euen wood and stone: therefore they destroyed them.

¹³ Knowe ye not what I and my fathers haue done vnto all the people of other countreyes? were the gods of the nations of other landes able to deliuer their land out of mine hande? ¹⁴ Who is he of al the gods of those natios (that my fathers haue destroied) that could deliuer his people out of mine hande? that your God should be able to deliuer you out of mine hand? ¹⁵ Nowe therefore let not Hezekiah deceiue you, nor seduce you after this sort, neither beleeue ye him: for none of all the gods of any nation or kingdome was able to deliuer his people out of mine hande and out of the hande of my fathers: howe much lesse shall your gods deliuer you out of mine hande? ¹⁶ And his seruants spake yet more against the Lord God, and against his seruant Hezekiah. ¹⁷ He wrote also letters, blaspheming the Lord God of Israel and speaking against him, saying, As the gods of the nations of other countreies could not deliuer their people out of mine hand, so shall not the God of Hezekiah deliuer his people out of mine hande.

⁴ Which haue saide, With our tongue will we preuaile: our lippes are our owne: who is Lord ouer vs?

⁵ O Lord, how glorious are thy workes! and thy thoughtes are very deepe. ⁶ An vnwise man knoweth it not, and a foole doeth not vnderstand this, ⁷ (When the wicked growe as the grasse, and all the workers of wickednesse doe flourish) that they shall be destroyed for euer.

² Wherefore shall the heathen say, Where is nowe their God? ³ But our God is in heauen: he doeth what so euer he will. ⁴ Their idoles are siluer and golde, euen the worke of mens hands. ⁵ They haue a mouth and speake not: they haue eyes and see not. ⁶ They haue eares and heare not: they haue noses and smelll not. ⁷ They haue handes and touche not: they haue feete and walke not: neither make they a sound with their throte. ⁸ They that make them are like vnto them: so are all that trust in them.

⁵ For I know that the Lord is great, and that our Lord is aboue all gods. ⁶ Whatsoeuer pleased the Lord, that did hee in heauen and in earth, in the sea, and in all the depths.

¹⁵ The idoles of the heathen are siluer and golde, euen the worke of mens handes. ¹⁶ They haue a mouth, and speake not: they haue eyes and see not. ¹⁷ They haue eares and heare not, neither is there any breath in their mouth. ¹⁸ They that make them, are like vnto them: so are all that trust in them.

⁷ But if thou say to me, We trust in the Lord our God. Is not that he, whose hie places and whose altars Hezekiah tooke downe, and said to Iudah and to Ierusalem, Ye shall worship before this altar?

¹⁰ And am I now come vp without the Lord to this land to destroy it? The Lord sayd vnto me, Goe vp against this land and destroy it.

¹⁵ Neither let Hezekiah make you to trust in the Lord, saying, The Lord will surely deliuer vs: this citie shall not be giuen ouer into the hand of the King of Asshur.

¹⁰ Thus shall ye speake to Hezekiah King of Iudah, saying, Let not thy God deceiue thee, in whom thou trustest, saying, Ierusalem shall not be giuen into the hand of the King of Asshur.

¹² Haue the gods of the nations deliuered them, which my fathers haue destroyed? as Gozan, and Haran, and Rezeph, and the children of Eden, which were at Telassar? ¹³ Where is the King of Hamath, and the King of Arpad, and the King of the citie of Sepharuaim, Hena and Iuah?

¹⁷ Encline thine eare, O Lord, and heare: open thine eyes, O Lord, and see, and heare all the wordes of Saneherib, who hath sent to blaspheme the liuing God. ¹⁸ Trueth it is, O Lord, that the Kings of Asshur haue destroyed all lands, and their countrey,

³ For the customes of the people are vaine: for one cutteth a tree out of the forest (which is the worke of the handes of the carpenter) with the axe, ⁴ And another decketh it with siluer, and with golde: they fasten it with nailes, and hammers, that it fall not. ⁵ The idoles stande vp as the palme tree, but speake not: they are borne because they cannot go feare them not, for they cannot do euill, neither can they do good.

¹⁰ But the Lord is the God of trueth: he is the liuing God, and an euerlasting King: at his anger the earth shall tremble, and the nations cannot abide his wrath. ¹¹ (Thus shall you say vnto them, The gods that haue not made the heauens and the earth, shall perish from the earth, and from vnder these heauens) ¹² He hath made the earth by his power, and established the worlde by his wisedome, and hath stretched out the heauen by his discretion.

¹⁵ Now therefore are ye ready when ye heare the sound of the cornet, trumpet, harpe, sackebut, psalterie, and dulcimer, and all instruments of musike, to fall downe, and worship the image, which I haue made? for if ye worship it not, ye shall be cast immediatly into the middes of an hote fierie fornace: for who is that God, that can deliuer you out of mine handes?

¹⁹ Wo vnto him that sayth to the wood, Awake, and to the dumme stone, Rise vp, it shall teach thee: beholde, it is layde ouer with golde and siluer, and there is no breath in it. ²⁰ But the Lord is in his holy Temple: let all the earth keepe silence before him.
