¹¹ Thy pompe is brought downe to ye graue, and the sounde of thy violes: the worme is spred vnder thee, and the wormes couer thee.

¹³ Though I hope, yet the graue shall bee mine house, and I shall make my bed in the darke. ¹⁴ I shall say to corruption, Thou art my father, and to the worme, Thou art my mother and my sister.

¹¹ They send forth their children like sheepe, and their sonnes dance. ¹² They take the tabret and harpe, and reioyce in the sound of the organs. ¹³ They spend their dayes in wealth, and suddenly they go downe to the graue. ¹⁴ They say also vnto God, Depart from vs: for we desire not the knowledge of thy wayes. ¹⁵ Who is the Almightie, that we should serue him? and what profit should we haue, if we should pray vnto him?

¹⁹ As the dry ground and heate consume the snowe waters, so shall the graue the sinners. ²⁰ The pitifull man shall forget him: the worme shall feele his sweetenes: he shalbe no more remembered, and the wicked shalbe broke like a tree.

⁴ Mine heart failed: fearefulnesse troubled me: the night of my pleasures hath he turned into feare vnto me. ⁵ Prepare thou the table: watch in the watch towre: eate, drinke: arise, ye princes, anoynt the shielde.

² Thou that art full of noise, a citie full of brute, a ioyous citie: thy slaine men shall not bee slaine with sworde, nor die in battell.

²⁴ And they shall goe forth, and looke vpon the carkases of the men that haue transgressed against me: for their worme shall not dye, neither shall their fire be quenched, and they shalbe an abhorring vnto all flesh.

¹³ Thus will I cause the sounde of thy songs to cease, and the sound of thine harpes shall be no more heard.

¹⁹ Whome doest thou passe in beautie? goe downe and sleepe with the vncircumcised. ²⁰ They shall fall in the middes of them that are slaine by the sword: shee is deliuered to the sword: draw her downe, and all her multitude.

³ Ye that put farre away the euill day, and approch to the seate of iniquitie? ⁴ They lie vpon beddes of yuorie, and stretch themselues vpon their beddes, and eate the lambes of the flocke, and the calues out of the stall. ⁵ They sing to the sounde of the viole: they inuent to themselues instruments of musike like Dauid. ⁶ They drinke wine in bowles, and anoynt themselues with the chiefe ointments, but no man is sory for the affliction of Ioseph. ⁷ Therefore nowe shall they go captiue with the first that go captiue, and the sorow of them that stretched themselues, is at hand.

⁴³ Wherefore, if thine hand cause thee to offend, cut it off: it is better for thee to enter into life, maimed, then hauing two hands, to goe into hell, into the fire that neuer shalbe quenched, ⁴⁴ Where their worme dyeth not, and the fire neuer goeth out. ⁴⁵ Likewise, if thy foote cause thee to offend, cut it off: it is better for thee to go halt into life, then hauing two feete, to be cast into hell, into the fire that neuer shalbe quenched, ⁴⁶ Where their worme dyeth not, and the fire neuer goeth out. ⁴⁷ And if thine eye cause thee to offende, plucke it out: it is better for thee to goe into the kingdome of God with one eye, then hauing two eyes, to be cast into hell fire, ⁴⁸ Where their worme dyeth not, and the fire neuer goeth out.

¹¹ And the marchants of the earth shall weepe and wayle ouer her: for no man byeth their ware any more. ¹² The ware of golde, and siluer, and of precious stone, and of pearles, and of fine linnen, and of purple, and of silke, and of skarlet, and of all maner of Thyne wood, and of all vessels of yuorie, and of all vessels of most precious wood, and of brasse, and of yron, and of marble, ¹³ And of cinamon, and odours, and ointments, and frankincense, and wine, and oyle, and fine floure, and wheate, and beastes, and sheepe, and horses, and charets, and seruants, and soules of men. ¹⁴ (And the apples that thy soule lusted after, are departed from thee, and all things which were fatte and excellent, are departed from thee, and thou shalt finde them no more) ¹⁵ The marchants of these thinges which were waxed riche, shall stand a farre off from her, for feare of her torment, weeping and wayling, ¹⁶ And saying, Alas, alas, that great citie, that was clothed in fine linnen and purple, and skarlet, and gilded with gold, and precious stones, and pearles. ¹⁷ For in one houre so great riches are come to desolation. And euery shipmaster, and all the people that occupie shippes, and shipmen, and whosoeuer traffike on the sea, shall stand a farre off, ¹⁸ And crie, when they see that smoke of that her burning, saying, What citie was like vnto this great citie? ¹⁹ And they shall cast dust on their heads, and crie, weeping, and wayling, and say, Alas, alas, that great citie, wherein were made rich all that had ships on the sea by her costlinesse: for in one houre she is made desolate.
