¹⁴ She called vnto the men of her house, and tolde them, saying, Beholde, he hath brought in an Ebrewe vnto vs to mocke vs: who came in to me for to haue slept with me: but I cryed with a loude voyce.

²¹ Vnto Shem also the father of all the sonnes of Eber, and elder brother of Iapheth were children borne.

¹³ Then came one that had escaped, and told Abram the Ebrew, which dwelt in the plaine of Mamre ye Amorite, brother of Eshcol, and brother of Aner, which were confederat with Abram.

⁷ Nowe therefore after these thinges, his masters wife cast her eyes vpon Ioseph, and saide, Lye with me.

¹⁷ Then she tolde him according to these words, saying, The Ebrew seruat, which thou hast brought vnto vs, came in to me, to mocke me.

¹⁵ For I was stollen away by theft out of the land of the Ebrewes, and here also haue I done nothing, wherefore they should put mee in the dungeon.

¹¹ Cruell witnesses did rise vp: they asked of me things that I knewe not.

³ For the voyce of the enemie, and for the vexation of ye wicked, because they haue brought iniquitie vpon me, and furiously hate me.

³ What doeth thy deceitfull tongue bring vnto thee? or what doeth it auaile thee?

¹⁸ He that dissembleth hatred with lying lips, and he that inuenteth slaunder, is a foole.

⁷ Hearken vnto me, ye that know righteousnesse, the people in whose heart is my Lawe. Feare ye not the reproche of men, neither be ye afraide of their rebukes.

¹⁷ But all the weapons that are made against thee, shall not prosper: and euery tongue that shall rise against thee in iudgement, thou shalt condemne. This is the heritage of the Lords seruants, and their righteousnesse is of me, sayth the Lord.

⁵ Those that be neere, and those that be farre from thee, shall mocke thee, which art vile in name and sore in affliction.

¹¹ Blessed shall ye be when men reuile you, and persecute you, and say all maner of euill against you for my sake, falsely.

⁵⁹ Nowe the chiefe Priestes and the Elders, and all the whole councill sought false witnesse against Iesus, to put him to death.

² And they began to accuse him, saying, We haue found this man peruerting the nation, and forbidding to pay tribute to Cesar, saying, That he is Christ a King.

⁸ By honour, and dishonour, by euill report, and good report, as deceiuers, and yet true:

²⁰ For what praise is it, if when ye be buffeted for your faultes, yee take it paciently? but and if when ye doe well, ye suffer wrong and take it paciently, this is acceptable to God.

¹⁴ Notwithstanding blessed are ye, if ye suffer for righteousnes sake. Yea, feare not their feare, neither be troubled. ¹⁵ But sanctifie the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready alwayes to giue an answere to euery man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you, with meekenesse and reuerence, ¹⁶ Hauing a good coscience, that whe they speake euill of you as of euill doers, they may be ashamed, which slander your good conuersation in Christ. ¹⁷ For it is better (if the will of God be so) that ye suffer for well doing, then for euil doing. ¹⁸ For Christ also hath once suffered for sinnes, the iust for the vniust, that he might bring vs to God, and was put to death concerning the flesh, but was quickened by the spirit.

¹⁴ If yee be railed vpon for the Name of Christ, blessed are ye: for the spirit of glory, and of God resteth vpon you: which on their part is euill spoken of: but on your part is glorified. ¹⁵ But let none of you suffer as a murtherer, or as a thiefe, or an euil doer, or as a busibodie in other mens matters. ¹⁶ But if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not bee ashamed: but let him glorifie God in this behalfe. ¹⁷ For the time is come, that iudgement must beginne at the house of God. If it first beginne at vs, what shall the ende be of them which obey not the Gospel of God? ¹⁸ And if the righteous scarcely bee saued, where shall the vngodly and the sinner appeare? ¹⁹ Wherefore let them that suffer according to the will of God, commit their soules to him in well doing, as vnto a faithfull Creator.
