¹ And when Rahel saw that she bare Iaakob no children, Rahel enuied her sister, and said vnto Iaakob, Giue me children, or els I dye.

³¹ When the Lord saw that Leah was despised, he made her fruitful: but Rahel was barren.

¹⁶ Then they departed from Beth-el, and when there was about halfe a daies iourney of ground to come to Ephrath, Rahel trauailed, and in trauailing she was in perill. ¹⁷ And whe she was in paines of her labour, the midwife saide vnto her, Feare not: for thou shalt haue this sonne also. ¹⁸ Then as she was about to yeelde vp the Ghost (for she died) she called his name Ben-oni, but his father called him Beniamin. ¹⁹ Thus died Rahel, and was buried in the way to Ephrath, which is Beth-lehem.

¹¹ And his brethren enuied him, but his father noted the saying.

¹⁵ Therefore if thou deale thus with mee, I pray thee, if I haue founde fauour in thy sight, kill me, that I behold not my miserie.

²⁹ But Moses saide vnto him, Enuiest thou for my sake? yea, would God that all the Lordes people were Prophets, and that the Lord woulde put his Spirit vpon them.

⁴ And on a day, when Elkanah sacrificed, he gaue to Peninnah his wife and to all her sonnes and daughters portions, ⁵ But vnto Hannah he gaue a worthy portion: for he loued Hannah, and the Lord had made her barren. ⁶ And her aduersarie vexed her sore, forasmuch as she vpbraided her, because the Lord had made her barren. ⁷ (And so did he yeere by yeere) and as oft as she went vp to the house of the Lord, thus she vexed her, that she wept and did not eate. ⁸ Then sayd Elkanah her husband to her, Hannah, why weepest thou? and why eatest thou not? and why is thine heart troubled? am not I better to thee then ten sonnes?

⁴ But he went a dayes iourney into the wildernesse, and came and sate downe vnder a iuniper tree, and desired that he might die, and sayde, It is now ynough: O Lord, take my soule, for I am no better then my fathers.

¹ Afterward Iob opened his mouth, and cursed his day. ² And Iob cryed out, and sayd, ³ Let the day perish, wherein I was borne, and the night when it was sayde, There is a man childe conceiued.

¹¹ Why died I not in the birth? or why dyed I not, when I came out of the wombe?

²⁰ Wherefore is the light giuen to him that is in miserie? and life vnto them that haue heauie hearts? ²¹ Which long for death, and if it come not, they would euen search it more then treasures: ²² Which ioy for gladnes, and reioyce, when they can finde the graue.

² Doubtlesse anger killeth the foolish, and enuie slayeth the idiote.

¹⁹ Who is he, that will pleade with me? for if I nowe holde my tongue, I dye.

¹⁶ They enuied Moses also in the tentes, and Aaron the holy one of the Lord.

³⁰ A sounde heart is the life of the flesh: but enuie is the rotting of the bones.

⁴ Also I beheld all trauaile, and all perfection of workes that this is ye enuie of a man against his neighbour: this also is vanitie and vexation of spirit.

¹⁴ Cursed be the day wherein I was borne: and let not the day wherein my mother bare me, be blessed. ¹⁵ Cursed be the man, that shewed my father, saying, A man child is borne vnto thee, and comforted him. ¹⁶ And let that man be as the cities, which the Lord hath ouerturned and repented not: and let him heare the cry in the morning, and the showting at noone tide, ¹⁷ Because he hath not slaine me, euen from the wombe, or that my mother might haue bene my graue, or her wobe a perpetual conception. ¹⁸ How is it, that I came forth of the wombe, to see labour and sorowe, that my dayes shoulde be consumed with shame?

³ Hee left Iudea, and departed againe into Galile.

⁸ For his disciples were gone away into the citie, to buy meate.

³ For yee are yet carnall: for whereas there is among you enuying, and strife, and diuisions, are ye not carnall, and walke as men?

¹⁰ For godly sorowe causeth repentance vnto saluation, not to be repented of: but the worldly sorowe causeth death.

²¹ Enuie, murthers, drunkennesse, gluttonie, and such like, whereof I tell you before, as I also haue tolde you before, that they which doe such things, shall not inherite the kingdome of God.

³ For wee our selues also were in times past vnwise, disobedient, deceiued, seruing the lustes and diuers pleasures, liuing in maliciousnes and enuie, hatefull, and hating one another:

¹⁴ But if ye haue bitter enuying and strife in your hearts, reioyce not, neither be liars against the trueth.

⁵ Doe ye thinke that the Scripture sayeth in vaine, The spirit that dwelleth in vs, lusteth after enuie?
