¹⁴ The space also wherein we came from Kadesh-barnea, vntill we were come ouer the riuer Zered, was eight and thirtie yeeres, vntill all the generation of the men of warre were wasted out from among the hoste, as the Lord sware vnto them.

²⁶ Then after fourtie dayes, they turned againe from searching of the land.

²⁸ Tell them, As I liue (saith the Lord) I wil surely do vnto you, euen as ye haue spoken in mine eares. ²⁹ Your carkeises shall fall in this wildernes, and all you that were counted through all your nombers, from twentie yeere olde and aboue, which haue murmured against me, ³⁰ Ye shall not doubtles come into the land, for the which I lifted vp mine hande, to make you dwell therein, saue Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh, and Ioshua the sonne of Nun. ³¹ But your children, (which ye said shoulde be a pray) them will I bring in, and they shall knowe the lande which ye haue refused: ³² But euen your carkeises shall fall in this wildernes, ³³ And your children shall wander in the wildernesse, fourtie yeeres, and shall beare your whoredomes, vntill your carkeises be wasted in the wildernesse. ³⁴ After the number of the dayes, in the which ye searched out the lande, euen fourtie dayes, euery day for a yeere, shall ye beare your iniquity, for fourtie yeeres, and ye shall feele my breach of promise. ³⁵ I the Lord haue said, Certainely I will doe so to all this wicked company, that are gathered together against me: for in this wildernesse they shall be consumed, and there they shall die.

⁶⁴ And among these there was not a man of them, whome Moses and Aaron the Priest nobred, when they tolde the children of Israel in the wildernes of Sinai. ⁶⁵ For the Lord said of them, They shall die in the wildernes: so there was not left a man of them, saue Caleb the sonne of Iephunneh, and Ioshua the sonne of Nun.

¹¹ None of the men that came out of Egypt from twentie yeere olde and aboue, shall see the land for the which I sware vnto Abraham, to Izhak, and to Iaakob, because they haue not wholly followed me:

² There are eleuen dayes iourney from Horeb vnto Kadesh-barnea, by the way of mout Seir.

¹⁹ Then we departed from Horeb, and went through all that great and terrible wildernesse (as yee haue seene) by the way of the mountaine of the Amorites, as the Lord our God commanded vs: and we came to Kadesh-barnea.

³⁴ Then the Lord heard the voyce of your wordes, and was wroth, and sware, saying, ³⁵ Surely there shall not one of these men of this froward generation, see that good land, which I sware to giue vnto your fathers,

⁴⁶ So ye abode in Kadesh a long time, according to the time that ye had remained before.

³ Thou turnest man to destruction: againe thou sayest, Returne, ye sonnes of Adam.

⁹ For all our dayes are past in thine anger: we haue spent our yeeres as a thought.

¹¹ Wherefore I sware in my wrath, saying, Surely they shall not enter into my rest.

²⁶ Therefore hee lifted vp his hande against them, to destroy them in the wildernesse,

¹⁵ Yet neuerthelesse, I lift vp mine hande vnto them in the wildernes that I would not bring them into the lande, which I had giuen them, flowing with milke and hony, which was pleasant aboue all landes,

⁵ But with many of them God was not pleased: for they were ouerthrowen in ye wildernes.

⁸ Harden not your hearts, as in the prouocation, according to the day of the tentation in the wildernes, ⁹ Where your fathers tempted me, prooued me, and sawe my workes fourtie yeeres long. ¹⁰ Wherefore I was grieued with that generation, and sayde, They erre euer in their heart, neither haue they knowen my wayes. ¹¹ Therefore I sware in my wrath, If they shall enter into my rest. ¹² Take heede, brethren, least at any time there be in any of you an euill heart, and vnfaithfull, to depart away from the liuing God. ¹³ But exhort one another dayly, while it is called to day, lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulnes of sinne. ¹⁴ For we are made partakers of Christ, if we keepe sure vnto the ende that beginning, wherewith we are vpholden, ¹⁵ So long as it is sayd, To day if ye heare his voyce, harden not your hearts, as in the prouocation. ¹⁶ For some when they heard, prouoked him to anger: howbeit, not all that came out of Egypt by Moses. ¹⁷ But with whome was he displeased fourtie yeeres? Was hee not displeased with them that sinned, whose carkeises fell in the wildernes? ¹⁸ And to whom sware he that they should not enter into his rest, but vnto them that obeyed not? ¹⁹ So we see that they could not enter in, because of vnbeliefe.

⁵ I wil therfore put you in remebrance, forasmuch as ye once knew this, how that the Lord, after that he had deliuered the people out of Egypt, destroied them afterward which beleeued not.
