¹⁸ Iudges and officers shalt thou make thee in all thy cities, which the Lord thy God giueth thee, throughout thy tribes: and they shall iudge the people with righteous iudgement.

²⁵ And Moses chose men of courage out of all Israel, and made them heads ouer the people, rulers ouer thousandes, rulers ouer hundreths, rulers ouer fifties, and rulers ouer tennes. ²⁶ And they iudged the people at all seasons, but they brought the hard causes vnto Moses: for they iudged all small matters themselues.

⁶ Then his master shall bring him vnto the Iudges, and set him to the dore, or to the poste, and his master shall bore his eare through with a nawle, and he shall serue him for euer.

¹⁵ So I tooke the chiefe of your tribes wise and knowen men, and made them rulers ouer you, captaines ouer thousands, and captaines ouer hundreds, and captaines ouer fiftie, and captaines ouer tenne, and officers among your tribes. ¹⁶ And I charged your iudges that same time, saying, Heare the controuersies betweene your brethren, and iudge righteously betweene euery man and his brother, and the stranger that is with him. ¹⁷ Ye shall haue no respect of person in iudgement, but shall heare the small aswell as the great: yee shall not feare the face of man: for the iudgement is Gods: and the cause that is too hard for you, bring vnto me, and I will heare it.

⁹ And thou shalt come vnto the Priestes of the Leuites, and vnto the iudge that shall be in those daies, and aske, and they shall shewe thee the sentence of iudgement,

¹² And that man that wil doe presumptuously, not hearkening vnto the Priest (that standeth before the Lord thy God to minister there) or vnto the iudge, that man shall die, and thou shalt take away euill from Israel.

¹⁷ Then both the men which striue together, shall stand before ye Lord, euen before the Priests and the Iudges, which shall be in those daies, ¹⁸ And the Iudges shall make diligent inquisition: and if the witnesse be found false, and hath giuen false witnes against his brother,

² Then thine Elders and thy Iudges shall come forth, and measure vnto the cities that are round about him that is slayne.

⁴ Of these foure and twentie thousande were set to aduance the worke of the house of the Lord, and sixe thousand were ouerseers and iudges.

²⁹ Of the Izharites was Chenaniah and his sonnes, for the busines without ouer Israel, for officers and for Iudges.

⁵ And hee set iudges in the lande throughout all the strong cities of Iudah, citie by citie, ⁶ And said to the iudges, Take heede what ye doe: for yee execute not the iudgements of man, but of the Lord, and he will be with you in the cause and iudgement. ⁷ Wherefore nowe let the feare of the Lord be vpon you: take heede, and do it: for there is no iniquitie with the Lord our God, neither respect of persons, nor receiuing of reward. ⁸ Moreouer in Ierusalem did Iehoshaphat set of the Leuites, and of the Priests and of the chiefe of the families of Israel, for the iudgement and cause of the Lord: and they returned to Ierusale. ⁹ And he charged them, saying, Thus shall yee doe in the feare of the Lord faithfully and with a perfite heart. ¹⁰ And in euery cause that shall come to you of your brethren that dwel in their cities, betweene blood and blood, betweene law and precept, statutes and iudgements, ye shall iudge them, and admonish them that they trespasse not against the Lord, that wrath come not vpon you and vpon your brethren. This shall ye do and trespasse not. ¹¹ And behold, Amariah the Priest shalbe the chiefe ouer you in all matters of the Lord, and Zebadiah ye sonne of Ishmael, a ruler of the house of Iudah, shalbe for al the Kings affaires, and the Leuites shalbe officers before you. Bee of courage, and doe it, and the Lord shalbe with the good.

² How long wil ye iudge vniustly, and accept the persons of the wicked? Selah. ³ Doe right to the poore and fatherlesse: doe iustice to the poore and needie.

¹ Let euery soule be subiect vnto the higher powers: for there is no power but of God: and the powers that be, are ordeined of God. ² Whosoeuer therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist, shall receiue to themselues condemnation. ³ For Magistrates are not to be feared for good workes, but for euill. Wilt thou then bee without feare of the power? doe well: so shalt thou haue praise of the same. ⁴ For he is ye minister of God for thy wealth, but if thou do euill, feare: for he beareth not the sworde for nought: for he is the minister of God to take vengeance on him that doeth euill. ⁵ Wherefore ye must bee subiect, not because of wrath only, but also for conscience sake. ⁶ For, for this cause ye pay also tribute: for they are Gods ministers, applying themselues for the same thing.
