¹⁴ Be not vnequally yoked with the infidels: for what fellowship hath righteousnesse with vnrighteousnesse? and what communion hath light with darkenesse?

¹⁶ And least thou take of their daughters vnto thy sonnes, and their daughters goe a whoring after their gods, and make thy sonnes goe a whoring after their gods.

¹⁹ Yee shall keepe mine ordinances. Thou shalt not let thy cattel gender with others of diuers kindes. Thou shalt not sowe thy fielde with mingled seede, neyther shall a garment of diuers thinges, as of linen and wollen come vpon thee.

² And the Lord thy God shall giue them before thee, then thou shalt smite them: thou shalt vtterly destroy them: thou shalt make no couenant with them, nor haue compassion on them, ³ Neither shalt thou make marriages with them, neither giue thy daughter vnto his sonne, nor take his daughter vnto thy sonne.

⁹ Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with diuers kinds of seedes, lest thou defile the increase of the seede which thou hast sowen, and the fruite of the vineyarde. ¹⁰ Thou shalt not plow with an oxe and an asse together. ¹¹ Thou shalt not weare a garment of diuers sorts, as of woollen and linen together.

² Euen the Philistims tooke ye Arke of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon. ³ And when they of Ashdod rose the next day in the morning, beholde, Dagon was fallen vpon his face on the ground before the Arke of the Lord, and they tooke vp Dagon, and set him in his place againe.

²¹ And Eliiah came vnto all the people, and said, How long halt ye betweene two opinions? If the Lord be God, follow him: but if Baal be he, then goe after him. And the people answered him not a worde.

² And Iehu the sonne of Hanani the Seer went out to meete him, and said to King Iehoshaphat, Wouldest thou helpe the wicked, and loue them that hate the Lord? therefore for this thing the wrath of the Lord is vpon thee.

¹ When as these things were done, the rulers came to me, saying, The people of Israel, and the Priestes, and the Leuites are not separated from the people of the lands (as touching their abominations) to wit, of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Iebusites, the Ammonites, the Moabites, the Egyptians, and the Amorites. ² For they haue taken their daughters to theselues, and to their sonnes, and they haue mixed the holy seede with the people of the landes, and the hande of the princes and rulers hath bene chiefe in this trespasse.

¹¹ Which thou hast commanded by thy seruants the Prophets, saying, The land whereunto ye go to possesse it, is an vncleane land, because of the filthines of the people of the lands, which by their abominations, and by their vncleannes haue filled it from corner to corner. ¹² Now therfore shall ye not giue your daughters vnto their sonnes, neither shall ye take their daughters vnto your sonnes, nor seeke their peace nor wealth for euer, that yee may be strong and eate the goodnes of the lande, and leaue it for an inheritance to your sonnes for euer.

¹⁹ And they gaue their hads, that they would put away their wiues, and they that had trespassed, gaue a ramme for their trespasse.

¹ And on that day did they reade in the booke of Moses, in the audience of the people, and it was found written therein, that the Ammonite, and the Moabite should not enter into the Congregation of God, ² Because they met not the children of Israel with bread and with water, but hired Balaam against them, that he should curse them: and our God turned the curse into a blessing. ³ Now when they had heard the Lawe, they separated from Israel all those that were mixed.

²³ In those dayes also I saw Iewes that married wiues of Ashdod, of Ammon, and of Moab. ²⁴ And their children spake halfe in ye speach of Ashdod, and could not speake in the Iewes language, and according to the language of the one people, and of the other people. ²⁵ Then I reprooued them, and cursed them, and smote certaine of them, and pulled off their heare, and tooke an othe of them by God, Yee shall not giue your daughters vnto their sonnes, neither shall ye take of their daughters vnto your sonnes, nor for your selues. ²⁶ Did not Salomon the king of Israel sinne by these thinges? yet among many nations was there no King like him: for he was beloued of his God, and God had made him King ouer Israel: yet strange women caused him to sinne.

³ But to the Saints that are in the earth, and to the excellent: all my delite is in them.

⁴ I haue not hanted with vaine persons, neither kept companie with the dissemblers. ⁵ I haue hated the assemblie of the euill, and haue not companied with the wicked.

⁹ Gather not my soule with the sinners, nor my life with the bloodie men: ¹⁰ In whose handes is wickednes, and their right hand is full of bribes.

²⁰ If wee haue forgotten the Name of our God, and holden vp our hands to a strange god, ²¹ Shall not God searche this out? for hee knoweth the secrets of the heart.

³ I wil set no wicked thing before mine eyes: I hate the worke of them that fall away: it shall not cleaue vnto me. ⁴ A froward heart shall depart from me: I will knowe none euill. ⁵ Him that priuily slandereth his neighbour, wil I destroy: him that hath a proude looke and hie heart, I cannot suffer.

³⁵ But were mingled among the heathen, and learned their workes,

⁶³ I am companion of all them that feare thee, and keepe thy precepts.

²¹ Doe not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and doe not I earnestly contend with those that rise vp against thee? ²² I hate them with an vnfained hatred, as they were mine vtter enemies.

¹⁸ Riches and honour are with me: euen durable riches and righteousnesse. ¹⁹ My fruite is better then golde, euen then fine golde, and my reuenues better then fine siluer.

²⁴ Make no friendship with an angrie man, neither goe with the furious man,

²⁷ A wicked man is abomination to the iust, and he that is vpright in his way, is abomination to the wicked.

¹¹ Iudah hath transgressed, and an abomination is committed in Israel and in Ierusalem: for Iudah hath defiled the holinesse of the Lord, which hee loued, and hath maried the daughter of a strange God.

¹⁵ And did not hee make one? yet had hee abundance of spirit: and wherefore one? because he sought a godly seede: therefore keepe your selues in your spirit, and let none trespasse against the wife of his youth.

⁷ The world can not hate you: but me it hateth, because I testifie of it, that the workes thereof are euill.

¹⁸ If the worlde hate you, ye knowe that it hated me before you. ¹⁹ If ye were of the worlde, the world woulde loue his owne: but because ye are not of ye world, but I haue chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.

²³ Then assoone as they were let goe, they came to their fellowes, and shewed all that the hie Priestes and Elders had said vnto them.

¹² The night is past, and the day is at hande, let vs therefore cast away the workes of darkenesse, and let vs put on the armour of light, ¹³ So that wee walke honestly, as in the day: not in gluttonie, and drunkennesse, neither in chambering and wantonnes, nor in strife and enuying. ¹⁴ But put yee on the Lord JESUS CHRIST, and take no thought for the flesh, to fulfill the lustes of it.

⁹ I wrote vnto you in an Epistle, that ye should not companie together with fornicatours,

³⁹ The wife is bounde by the Lawe, as long as her husband liueth: but if her husband bee dead, shee is at libertie to marie with whome she will, onely in the Lord.

²¹ Ye can not drinke the cup of the Lord, and the cup of the deuils. Ye can not be partakers of the Lords table, and of the table of the deuils.

³³ Be not deceiued: euill speakings corrupt good maners.

¹⁷ This I say therefore and testifie in the Lord, that yee hencefoorth walke not as other Gentiles walke, in vanitie of their minde, ¹⁸ Hauing their vnderstanding darkened, and being strangers from the life of God through the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardnesse of their heart: ¹⁹ Which being past feeling, haue giuen themselues vnto wantonnesse, to woorke all vncleannesse, euen with griedinesse. ²⁰ But yee haue not so learned Christ,

⁶ Let no man deceiue you with vaine wordes: for, for such thinges commeth the wrath of God vpon the children of disobedience. ⁷ Be not therefore companions with them. ⁸ For ye were once darkenesse, but are nowe light in the Lord: walke as children of light, ⁹ (For the fruit of the Spirit is in al goodnes, and righteousnes, and trueth) ¹⁰ Approuing that which is pleasing to the Lord. ¹¹ And haue no fellowship with ye vnfruitfull works of darknes, but euen reproue them rather. ¹² For it is shame euen to speake of the things which are done of them in secret. ¹³ But all thinges when they are reproued of the light, are manifest: for it is light that maketh all things manifest. ¹⁴ Wherefore hee sayeth, Awake thou that sleepest, and stande vp from the deade, and Christ shall giue thee light.

¹⁵ That ye may be blamelesse, and pure, and the sonnes of God without rebuke in the middes of a naughtie and crooked nation, among whom yee shine as lights in the world,

⁴ But ye, brethren, are not in darkenes, that that day shall come on you, as it were a thiefe. ⁵ Yee are all the children of light, and the children of the day: we are not of the night, neither of darkenesse. ⁶ Therefore let vs not sleepe as do other, but let vs watch and be sober. ⁷ For they that sleepe, sleepe in the night, and they that be drunken, are drunken in the night. ⁸ But let vs which are of the day, be sober, putting on the brest plate of faith and loue, and of the hope of saluation for an helmet.

⁴ Ye adulterers and adulteresses, knowe ye not that the amitie of the world is the enimitie of God? Whosoeuer therefore will be a friend of the world, maketh himselfe the enemie of God.

⁹ But yee are a chosen generation, a royall Priesthoode, an holy nation, a people set at libertie, that yee shoulde shewe foorth the vertues of him that hath called you out of darkenesse into his marueilous light, ¹⁰ Which in time past were not a people, yet are nowe the people of God: which in time past were not vnder mercie, but nowe haue obteined mercie.

² That he hence forward should liue (as much time as remaineth in the flesh) not after the lusts of men, but after the will of God. ³ For it is sufficient for vs that we haue spet the time past of ye life, after the lust of the Gentiles, walking in wantonnes, lustes, drunkennes, in gluttonie, drinkings, and in abominable idolatries. ⁴ Wherein it seemeth to them strange, that yee runne not with them vnto the same excesse of riot: therefore speake they euill of you,

⁵ This then is the message which wee haue heard of him, and declare vnto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkenes. ⁶ If wee say that wee haue fellowship with him, and walke in darkenesse, we lie, and doe not truely: ⁷ But if we walke in the light as he is in the light, we haue fellowship one with another, and the blood of Iesus Christ his Sonne clenseth vs from all sinne.

¹² Not as Cain which was of that wicked one, and slewe his brother: and wherefore slewe he him? because his owne workes were euill, and his brothers good. ¹³ Marueile not, my brethren, though this world hate you. ¹⁴ We know that we are translated from death vnto life, because we loue the brethren: he that loueth not his brother, abideth in death.
