⁷ They would be doctours of the Law, and yet vnderstande not what they speake, neither whereof they affirme.

¹³ Therefore the Lord sayd, Because this people come neere vnto me with their mouth, and honour me with their lips, but haue remooued their heart farre from me, and their feare toward me was taught by the precept of men, ¹⁴ Therefore behold, I wil againe doe a marueilous worke in this people, euen a marueilous worke, and a wonder: for the wisdome of their wise men shall perish, and the vnderstanding of their prudent men shalbe hid.

⁸ Howe doe yee say, Wee are wise, and the Lawe of the Lord is with vs? Loe, certeinly in vaine made hee it, the penne of the scribes is in vaine. ⁹ The wise men are ashamed: they are afraid and taken. loe, they haue reiected the word of the Lord, and what wisdome is in them?

¹⁴ Let them alone, they be the blinde leaders of the blinde: and if the blinde leade ye blinde, both shall fall into the ditche.

²⁷ Then they answered Iesus, and said, We can not tell. And he said vnto them, Neither tell I you by what authoritie I doe these things.

¹⁶ Wo be vnto you blinde guides, which say, Whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the golde of the Temple, he offendeth. ¹⁷ Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the golde, or the Temple that sanctifieth the golde? ¹⁸ And whosoeuer sweareth by the altar, it is nothing: but whosoeuer sweareth by the offering that is vpon it, offendeth. ¹⁹ Ye fooles and blinde, whether is greater, the offering, or the altar which sanctifieth the offering? ²⁰ Whosoeuer therefore sweareth by the altar, sweareth by it, and by all things thereon. ²¹ And whosoeuer sweareth by the Temple, sweareth by it, and by him that dwelleth therein. ²² And he that sweareth by heauen, sweareth by the throne of God, and by him that sitteth thereon. ²³ Wo be to you, Scribes and Pharises, hypocrites: for ye tithe mynt, and annyse, and cummyn, and leaue the weightier matters of the law, as iudgement, and mercy and fidelitie. These ought ye to haue done, and not to haue left the other. ²⁴ Ye blinde guides, which straine out a gnat, and swallowe a camell.

⁹ Nicodemus answered, and said vnto him, Howe can these things be? ¹⁰ Iesus answered, and saide vnto him, Art thou a teacher of Israel, and knowest not these things?

⁴⁰ And some of the Pharises which were with him, heard these things, and sayd vnto him, Are we blinde also? ⁴¹ Iesus sayd vnto them, If ye were blinde, ye should not haue sinne: but nowe ye say, We see: therefore your sinne remaineth.

¹ Then came downe certaine from Iudea, and taught the brethren, saying, Except ye be circumcised after the maner of Moses, ye cannot be saued.

²² When they professed themselues to be wise, they became fooles.

¹⁹ And persuadest thy selfe that thou art a guide of the blinde, a light of them which are in darkenesse, ²⁰ An instructer of them which lacke discretion, a teacher of the vnlearned, which hast the forme of knowledge, and of the truth in ye Law. ²¹ Thou therefore, which teachest another, teachest thou not thy selfe? thou that preachest, A man should not steale, doest thou steale?

² This only would I learne of you, Receiued ye the Spirit by the workes of the Lawe, or by the hearing of faith preached?

⁵ He therefore that ministreth to you the Spirit, and worketh miracles among you, doeth he it through the workes of the Law, or by the hearing of faith preached?

²¹ Tell me, ye that will be vnder the Law, doe ye not heare the Lawe?

³ For I testifie againe to euery man, which is circumcised, that he is bound to keepe the whole Lawe. ⁴ Ye are abolished from Christ: whosoeuer are iustified by the Law, ye are fallen from grace.

⁴ He is puft vp and knoweth nothing, but doteth about questions and strife of words, whereof commeth enuie, strife, railings, euill surmisings,

⁷ Which women are euer learning, and are neuer able to come to the acknowledging of the trueth.

¹⁰ For there are many disobedient and vaine talkers and deceiuers of mindes, chiefly they of the Circumcision, ¹¹ Whose mouthes must bee stopped, which subuert whole houses, teaching things, which they ought not, for filthie lucres sake.

¹² But these, as naturall brute beasts, led with sensualitie and made to be taken, and destroyed, speake euill of those things which they know not, and shall perish through their owne corruption,
