²⁶ So they tooke the one bullocke, that was giuen them, and they prepared it, and called on the name of Baal, from morning to noone, saying, O Baal, heare vs: but there was no voyce, nor any to answere: and they leapt vpon the altar that was made.

²⁴ Then call ye on the name of your god, and I will call on the name of the Lord: and then the God that answereth by fire, let him be God. And all the people answered, and sayde, It is well spoken.

⁴ Their idoles are siluer and golde, euen the worke of mens hands. ⁵ They haue a mouth and speake not: they haue eyes and see not. ⁶ They haue eares and heare not: they haue noses and smelll not. ⁷ They haue handes and touche not: they haue feete and walke not: neither make they a sound with their throte. ⁸ They that make them are like vnto them: so are all that trust in them.

¹⁵ The idoles of the heathen are siluer and golde, euen the worke of mens handes. ¹⁶ They haue a mouth, and speake not: they haue eyes and see not. ¹⁷ They haue eares and heare not, neither is there any breath in their mouth. ¹⁸ They that make them, are like vnto them: so are all that trust in them. ¹⁹ Praise the Lord, ye house of Israel: praise the Lord, ye house of Aaron. ²⁰ Praise the Lord, ye house of Leui: ye that feare the Lord, praise the Lord.

³⁸ And as he was in the temple worshipping of Nisroch his god, Adramelech and Sharezer his sonnes slewe him with the sword, and they escaped into the land of Ararat: and Esarhaddon his sonne reigned in his steade.

¹⁷ And the residue thereof he maketh a god, euen his idole: he boweth vnto it, and worshippeth and prayeth vnto it, and sayeth, Deliuer me: for thou art my god.

²⁰ Assemble your selues, and come: drawe neere together, ye abiect of the Gentiles: they haue no knowledge, that set vp the wood of their idole, and pray vnto a god, that cannot saue them.

⁵ The idoles stande vp as the palme tree, but speake not: they are borne because they cannot go feare them not, for they cannot do euill, neither can they do good.

²³ But hast lift thy selfe vp against the Lord of heauen, and they haue brought the vessels of his House before thee, and thou and thy princes, thy wiues and thy concubines haue drunke wine in them, and thou hast praysed the gods of siluer and golde, of brasse, yron, wood and stone, which neither see, neither heare, nor vnderstand: and the God in whose hand thy breath is and all thy wayes, him hast thou not glorified.

¹⁸ What profiteth the image? for the maker thereof hath made it an image, and a teacher of lies, though he that made it, trust therein, when he maketh dumme idoles.

⁹ In the same day also will I visite all those that dance vpon the threshold so proudly, which fill their masters houses by crueltie and deceite.

⁷ Also when ye pray, vse no vaine repetitions as the Heathen: for they thinke to be heard for their much babbling.

⁴ Concerning therefore the eating of things sacrificed vnto idoles, we knowe that an idole is nothing in the worlde, and that there is none other God but one.

¹⁹ What say I then? that the idole is any thing? or that that which is sacrificed to idoles, is any thing? ²⁰ Nay, but that these things which the Gentiles sacrifice, they sacrifice to deuils, and not vnto God: and I would not that ye should haue fellowship with the deuils.

² Ye know that ye were Gentiles, and were caried away vnto the dumme Idoles, as ye were led.
