²⁵ to take the place in this ministry and apostleship, from which Judas fell away, that he might go to his own place.

¹³ So Saul died for his trespass which he committed against the LORD, because of the word of the LORD, which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire [thereby], ¹⁴ and inquired not of the LORD: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

⁷ When he is judged, let him come forth guilty; and let his prayer be turned into sin.

⁴¹ Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into the eternal fire which is prepared for the devil and his angels:

⁴⁶ And these shall go away into eternal punishment: but the righteous into eternal life.

²⁴ The Son of man goeth, even as it is written of him: but woe unto that man through whom the Son of man is betrayed! good were it for that man if he had not been born.

³ Then Judas, which betrayed him, when he saw that he was condemned, repented himself, and brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and elders, ⁴ saying, I have sinned in that I betrayed innocent blood. But they said, What is that to us? see thou [to it]. ⁵ And he cast down the pieces of silver into the sanctuary, and departed; and he went away and hanged himself.

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, Did not I choose you the twelve, and one of you is a devil? ⁷¹ Now he spake of Judas [the son] of Simon Iscariot, for he it was that should betray him, [being] one of the twelve.

²⁷ And after the sop, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore saith unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.

¹² While I was with them, I kept them in thy name which thou hast given me: and I guarded them, and not one of them perished, but the son of perdition; that the scripture might be fulfilled.

¹⁶ Brethren, it was needful that the scripture should be fulfilled, which the Holy Ghost spake before by the mouth of David concerning Judas, who was guide to them that took Jesus. ¹⁷ For he was numbered among us, and received his portion in this ministry. ¹⁸ (Now this man obtained a field with the reward of his iniquity; and falling headlong, he burst asunder in the midst, and all his bowels gushed out. ¹⁹ And it became known to all the dwellers at Jerusalem; insomuch that in their language that field was called Akeldama, that is, The field of blood.) ²⁰ For it is written in the book of Psalms, Let his habitation be made desolate, And let no man dwell therein: and, His office let another take. ²¹ Of the men therefore which have companied with us all the time that the Lord Jesus went in and went out among us,

⁵ through whom we received grace and apostleship, unto obedience of faith among all the nations, for his name’s sake:

² If to others I am not an apostle, yet at least I am to you; for the seal of mine apostleship are ye in the Lord.

⁸ (for he that wrought for Peter unto the apostleship of the circumcision wrought for me also unto the Gentiles);

³ And in covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose sentence now from of old lingereth not, and their destruction slumbereth not. ⁴ For if God spared not angels when they sinned, but cast them down to hell, and committed them to pits of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment; ⁵ and spared not the ancient world, but preserved Noah with seven others, a preacher of righteousness, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; ⁶ and turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah into ashes condemned them with an overthrow, having made them an example unto those that should live ungodly;

⁶ And angels which kept not their own principality, but left their proper habitation, he hath kept in everlasting bonds under darkness unto the judgment of the great day. ⁷ Even as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities about them, having in like manner with these given themselves over to fornication, and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the punishment of eternal fire.
