¹ ¶ Remember now thy Creator in the days of thy youth while the evil days do not come nor the years draw near when thou shalt say, I have no pleasure in them;

² But the LORD was with Joseph, and he was a prospered man; and he was in the house of his master the Egyptian.

⁸ But he refused and said unto his master’s wife, Behold, my master does not know what is with me in the house, and he has committed all that he has to my hand; ⁹ there is none greater in this house than I; neither has he kept back anything from me but thee because thou art his wife; how then can I do this great wickedness and sin against God?

²³ The prince of the prison looked not to anything that was under his hand because the LORD was with him, and that which he did, the LORD made it to prosper.

²⁸ Therefore, I also have given him back to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall belong to the LORD. And he worshipped the LORD there.

¹⁸ But Samuel ministered before the LORD, being a child, girded with a linen ephod.

²⁶ And the child Samuel kept on growing and was in favour both with the LORD and also with men.

¹⁹ ¶ And Samuel grew, and the LORD was with him and did not let any of his words fall to the ground. ²⁰ And all Israel from Dan even to Beersheba knew that Samuel was a faithful prophet of the LORD. ²¹ Thus the LORD appeared again in Shiloh, for the LORD manifested himself to Samuel in Shiloh with the word of the LORD.

⁷ And the LORD replied unto Samuel, Do not look on his countenance or on the height of his stature because I have refused him, for it is not as man sees, for man looks on the outward appearance, but the LORD looks on the heart.

¹² And he sent and brought him in. Now he was ruddy and of a beautiful countenance and handsome. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him, for this is he. ¹³ Then Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him from among his brethren; and the Spirit of the LORD prospered David from that day forward. So Samuel rose up and went to Ramah.

³⁶ Whether it was a lion or a bear thy slave would kill it, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he has dishonoured the armies of the living God. ³⁷ David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

³⁵ I am this day eighty years old, and shall I tell the difference between the good and the bad? Shall thy slave enjoy what I eat or what I drink? Shall I hear any more the voice of singing men and singing women? Why then should thy slave be yet a burden unto my lord the king?

⁶ And Solomon said, Thou hast shown unto thy slave David, my father, great mercy, according to the way he walked before thee in truth and in righteousness and in uprightness of heart with thee; and thou hast kept for him this great mercy that thou hast given him a son to sit on his throne, as it is this day. ⁷ And now, O LORD my God, thou hast made thy slave king instead of David my father; and I am but a tender young man; I do not know how to go out or come in. ⁸ And thy slave is in the midst of thy people whom thou hast chosen, a great people, that cannot be numbered nor counted for multitude. ⁹ Give, therefore, thy slave a hearing heart to judge thy people that I may discern between good and evil, for who is able to govern this thy so great a people? ¹⁰ And the speech pleased the Lord that Solomon had asked this thing. ¹¹ And God said unto him, Because thou hast asked this thing and hast not asked for thyself long life neither hast asked riches for thyself nor hast asked the life of thine enemies, but hast asked for thyself understanding to hear judgment, ¹² behold, I have done according to thy words: behold, I have given thee a wise and understanding heart so that there was none like thee before thee, neither after thee shall any arise like unto thee.

¹³ And all Israel shall mourn for him and bury him, for he only of those of Jeroboam shall enter into the grave because in him there is found some good thing of the LORD God of Israel in the house of Jeroboam.

¹² And it shall come to pass as soon as I am gone from thee, that the Spirit of the LORD shall carry thee where I know not; and so when I come and tell Ahab, and he cannot find thee, he shall slay me; but I, thy slave, fear the LORD from my youth.

² And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD and walked in the ways of David, his father, and declined neither to the right hand, nor to the left. ³ For in the eighth year of his reign, while he was yet young, he began to seek after the God of David, his father; and in the twelfth year he began to purge Judah and Jerusalem from the high places and the groves and the graven images and the molten images.

² For, unto what might the strength of their hands profit me, in whom time was lost?

⁹ But thou art he that took me out of the womb; thou hast made me wait upon thee since I was upon my mother’s breasts. ¹⁰ I was cast upon thee from the womb; thou art my God from my mother’s belly.

¹¹ ¶ Caph Come, ye children, hearken unto me; I will teach you the fear of the LORD.

¹⁷ O God, thou hast taught me from my youth and until now; I shall manifest thy wondrous works. ¹⁸ Now also when I am old and grayheaded, O God, forsake me not until I have showed the strength of thy arm unto the next generation and thy power to every one that is to come,

¹⁰ The days of our years are seventy, and of the most valiant eighty years, yet their strength is labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away.

¹⁷ I love those that love me, and those that seek me early shall find me.

⁶ ¶ Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.

⁸ but if a man lives many years and rejoices in them all; yet if afterwards he remembers the days of darkness, for they shall be many, he shall say that everything that shall have happened to him is vanity.

¹⁰ Therefore remove sorrow from thy heart and put away evil from thy flesh; for childhood and youth are vanity.

⁸ Yea, in the way of thy judgments, O LORD, we wait for thee; the desire of our soul is to thy name and to the remembrance of thee.

²⁷ Teth It is good for the man if he bears the yoke from his youth.

⁸ ¶ And Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the king’s food, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the prince of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. ⁹ (And God brought Daniel into grace and mercy with the prince of the eunuchs.)

¹⁷ ¶ And unto these four young men, God gave them knowledge and intelligence in all letters and science; furthermore Daniel had understanding in all visions and dreams.

⁹ Strangers have devoured his strength, and he does not know it; yea, gray hairs are here and there upon him, yet he does not understand.

¹⁵ For he shall be great in the sight of the Lord and shall drink neither wine nor strong drink; and he shall be filled with the Holy Spirit, even from his mother’s womb.

⁴⁰ And the child grew and was comforted of the Spirit, filled with wisdom and the grace of God was upon him. ⁴¹ ¶ And his parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. ⁴² And when he was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. ⁴³ And having completed the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and his mother knew not of it. ⁴⁴ But they, supposing him to have been in the company, went a day’s journey, and they sought him among their kinsfolk and acquaintances. ⁴⁵ And when they found him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking him. ⁴⁶ And it came to pass that after three days they found him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them and asking them questions. ⁴⁷ And all that heard him were astonished at his understanding and answers. ⁴⁸ And when they saw him, they were amazed; and his mother said unto him, Son, why hast thou thus dealt with us? Behold, thy father and I have sought thee sorrowing. ⁴⁹ And he said unto them, How is it that ye sought me? Knew ye not that it behooves me to be about my Father’s business? ⁵⁰ And they understood not the word which he spoke unto them. ⁵¹ And he went down with them and came to Nazareth and was subject unto them, but his mother kept all these things in her heart. ⁵² And Jesus increased in wisdom and in age and in grace with God and men.

¹⁶ But Jesus called them unto him and said, Suffer the little children to come unto me and forbid them not, for of such is the kingdom of God.

⁴ And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath, but bring them up in the discipline and admonition of the Lord.

¹⁵ and that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto saving health by the faith which is in Christ Jesus.
