⁸ I speak not as commanding, but by occasion of the diligence of others and to prove the sincerity of your charity.

¹⁴ Now therefore fear the LORD and serve him in perfection and in truth and put away from among you the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the river and in Egypt, and serve ye the LORD.

³¹ And they shall come unto thee as the people come, and they shall be before thee, my people, and they shall hear thy words, but they shall not do them; for with their mouth they flatter, but their heart goes after their covetousness.

¹² And if the fall of them is the riches of the world, and the diminishing of them the riches of the Gentiles, how much more shall their fullness be? ¹³ For (I call you Gentiles) inasmuch as I am truly the apostle of the Gentiles, my honorable ministry, ¹⁴ if in any manner I may provoke my nation to jealousy and cause some of them to be saved.

⁹ Let love be without dissimulation, abhorring that which is evil, causing you to come unto that which is good;

⁶ But I speak this by permission, and not by commandment.

¹² But to the rest I speak, not the Lord: If any brother has a wife that does not believe, and she consents to dwell with him, let him not put her away.

²⁵ ¶ Now concerning virgins I have no commandment of the Lord, yet I give my advice, as one that has obtained mercy of the Lord to be faithful.

⁶ in chastity, in knowledge, in meekness, in kindness, in the Holy Spirit, in unfeigned charity,

¹ ¶ Likewise, brethren, we make known unto you the grace of God bestowed on the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones} of Macedonia, ² how that in a great trial of tribulation the abundance of their joy and their deep poverty abounded unto the riches of their liberality. ³ For to their power, I bear record, and even beyond their power they were willing of themselves,

¹⁰ And in this I give my advice, for this is expedient for you, who began not only to do, but also to be diligent a year ago.

²⁴ Therefore show ye unto them before the congregations {Gr. ekklesia – called out ones}, the proof of your charity and of our glorying regarding you.

² For I know your ready desire, for which I gloried of you to those of Macedonia, that Achaia was ready a year ago, and your zeal has provoked many.

⁷ Each one according as they purpose in their heart, so let them give, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

¹⁵ but following the truth in charity, let us grow up into him in all things, who is the head, the Christ:

²⁴ Grace be with all those that love our Lord Jesus Christ in incorruption. Amen.

²⁴ And let us consider one another to provoke unto charity and unto good works,

¹⁴ ¶ My brethren, What shall it profit though someone says that they have faith and do not have works? Shall this type of faith be able to save them? ¹⁵ If a brother or sister is naked and destitute of daily food, ¹⁶ and one of you says unto them, Depart in peace; be ye warmed and filled; but ye do not give them those things which are needful for the body; what shall it profit them?

²² Having purified your souls in the obedience of the truth, by the Spirit, in unfeigned brotherly love, love one another with a pure heart fervently,

¹⁷ But whosoever has this world’s goods and sees his brother have need and shuts up his bowels of compassion from him, how does the charity of God abide in him? ¹⁸ My little children, let us not love in word neither in tongue, but in deed and in truth. ¹⁹ And in this we know that we are of the truth and have our hearts certified before him.
