⁴ But before they went to bed, the men of the city beset the house, both young and old, all the people together.

¹³ And the men of Sodom were very wicked, and sinners before the face of the Lord beyond measure.

²⁰ And the Lord said: The cry of Sodom and Gomorrha is multiplied, and their sin is become exceedingly grievous.

² And all the congregation of the children of Israel murmured against Moses and Aaron in the wilderness.

² Thou shalt not follow the multitude to do evil: neither shalt thou yield in judgment, to the opinion of the most part, to stray from the truth.

¹⁶ For they sleep not, except they have done evil: and their sleep is taken away unless they have made some to fall.

¹ Go about through the streets of Jerusalem, and see, and consider, and seek in the broad places thereof, if you can find a man that executeth judgment, and seeketh faith: and I will be merciful unto it. ² And though they say: The Lord liveth; this also they will swear falsely. ³ O Lord, thy eyes are upon truth: thou hast struck them, and they have not grieved: thou hast bruised them, and they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than the rock, and they have refused to return. ⁴ But I said: Perhaps these are poor and foolish, that know not the way of the Lord, the judgment of their God. ⁵ I will go therefore to the great men, and will speak to them: for they have known the way of the Lord, the judgment of their God: and behold these have altogether broken the yoke more, and have burst the bonds. ⁶ Wherefore a lion out of the wood hath slain them, a wolf in the evening hath spoiled them, a leopard watcheth for their cities: every one that shall go out thence shall be taken, because their transgressions are multiplied, their rebellions are strengthened.

³¹ The prophets prophesied falsehood, and the priests clapped their hands: and my people loved such things: what then shall be done in the end thereof?

³ The evil of their hands they call good: the prince requireth, and the judge is for giving: and the great man hath uttered the desire of his soul, and they have troubled it.

²⁰ But the chief priests and ancients persuaded the people that they should ask Barabbas and make Jesus away. ²¹ And the governor answering, said to them: Whether will you of the two to be released unto you? But they said: Barabbas. ²² Pilate saith to them: What shall I do then with Jesus that is called Christ? They say all: Let him be crucified. ²³ The governor said to them: Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying: Let him be crucified. ²⁴ And Pilate seeing that he prevailed nothing, but that rather a tumult was made, taking water washed his hands before the people, saying: I am innocent of the blood of this just man. Look you to it. ²⁵ And the whole people answering, said: His blood be upon us and upon our children.
