¹ Then the high priest said: Are these things so?

⁶¹ And they said: This man said, I am able to destroy the temple of God and after three days to rebuild it. ⁶² And the high priest rising up, said to him: Answerest thou nothing to the things which these witness against thee?

⁵⁸ We heard him say, I Will destroy this temple made with hands and within three days I will build another not made with hands. ⁵⁹ And their witness did not agree. ⁶⁰ And the high priest rising up in the midst, asked Jesus, saying: Answerest thou nothing to the things that are laid to thy charge by these men?

¹⁹ The high priest therefore asked Jesus of his disciples and of his doctrine. ²⁰ Jesus answered him: I have spoken openly to the world. I have always taught in the synagogue and in the temple, whither all the Jews resort: and in secret I have spoken nothing. ²¹ Why askest thou me? Ask them who have heard what I have spoken unto them. Behold they know what things I have said.

³³ Pilate therefore went into the hall again and called Jesus and said to him: Art thou the king of the Jews? ³⁴ Jesus answered: Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or have others told it thee of me? ³⁵ Pilate answered: Am I a Jew? Thy own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee up to me. What hast thou done?

¹³ And they set up false witnesses, who said: This man ceaseth not to speak words against the holy place and the law. ¹⁴ For we have heard him say that this Jesus of Nazareth shall destroy this place and shall change the traditions which Moses delivered unto us.
