²⁷ In labour and painfulness, in much watchings, in hunger and thirst, in fastings often, in cold and nakedness:

⁹ My lord the king, these men have done evil in all that they have done against Jeremias the prophet, casting him into the dungeon to die there with hunger, for there is no more bread in the city.

² And as they were ministering to the Lord and fasting, the Holy Ghost said to them: Separate me Saul and Barnabas, for the work whereunto I have taken them. ³ Then they fasting and praying and imposing their hands upon them, sent them away.

And he continued his speech until midnight. ⁸ And there were a great number of lamps in the upper chamber where we were assembled. ⁹ And a certain young man named Eutychus, sitting on the window, being oppressed with a deep sleep (as Paul was long preaching), by occasion of his sleep fell from the third loft down and was taken up dead. ¹⁰ To whom, when Paul had gone down, he laid himself upon him and, embracing him, said: Be not troubled, for his soul is in him. ¹¹ Then going up and breaking bread and tasting and having talked a long time to them, until daylight, so he departed.

³¹ Therefore watch, keeping in memory that for three years I ceased not with tears to admonish every one of you, night and day.

³⁴ You yourselves know. For such things as were needful for me and them that are with me, these hands have furnished. ³⁵ I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring you ought to support the weak and to remember the word of the Lord Jesus, how he said: It is a more blessed thing to give, rather than to receive.

³⁵ Who then shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation? Or distress? Or famine? Or nakedness? Or danger? Or persecution? Or the sword? ³⁶ (As it is written: For thy sake, we are put to death all the day long. We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.)

¹¹ Even unto this hour we both hunger and thirst and are naked and are buffeted and have no fixed abode. ¹² And we labour, working with our own hands. We are reviled: and we bless. We are persecuted: and we suffer it.

⁵ Defraud not one another, except, perhaps, by consent, for a time, that you may give yourselves to prayer: and return together again, lest Satan tempt you for your incontinency.

⁵ In stripes, in prisons, in seditions, in labours, in watchings, in fastings,

²³ They are the ministers of Christ (I speak as one less wise): I am more; in many more labours, in prisons more frequently, in stripes above measure, in deaths often.

¹² I know both how to be brought low, and I know how to abound (every where and in all things I am instructed): both to be full and to be hungry: both to abound and to suffer need.

⁹ For you remember, brethren, our labour and toil: working night and day, lest we should be chargeable to any of you, we preached among you the gospel of God.

⁸ Neither did we eat any man's bread for nothing: but in labour and in toil we worked night and day, lest we should be chargeable to any of you.

³⁷ They were stoned, they were cut asunder, they were tempted, they were put to death by the sword, they wandered about in sheepskins, in goatskins, being in want, distressed, afflicted:

¹⁵ And if a brother or sister be naked and want daily food: ¹⁶ And one of you say to them: Go in peace, be ye warmed and filled; yet give them not those things that are necessary for the body, what shall it profit?
