⁹ and sayde vnto his people: Beholde, the people of the children of Israel are many, & mightier then we:

⁴ he sayde vnto ye Elders of the Madianites: Now shal this heape licke vp all that is aboute vs, eue as an oxe licketh vp the grasse in the felde. (And Balac ye sonne of Ziphor was kynge of the Moabites at that tyme.) ⁵ And he sent out messaungers vnto Balaam the sonne of Beor, which was an interpreter. (The same dwelt by the water of the lande of ye children of his people) that they shulde call him, and he caused to saye vnto him: Beholde, there is come out of Egipte, a people, which couereth ye face of ye earth, and lyeth ouer agaynst me.

² As for the foolish man displeasure kylleth him, and anger slayeth ye ignoraunt.

²⁴ But he increased his people exceadingly, and made them stronger then their enemies. ²⁵ Whose hert turned, so that they hated his people, and dealt vntruly with his seruauntes.

²⁸ The increase and prosperite of the comons is the kynges honoure, but the decaye of the people is the confucio of the prynce.

⁴ Wrath is a cruell thige, and furiousnesse is a very tempest: yee who is able to abyde envye?

⁴ Agayne, I sawe that all trauayle and diligence of laboure was hated of euery man. This is also a vaine thinge, and a vexacion of mynde.

³ For we oure selues also were in tymes past, vnwyse, dishobedient, in erroure, seruynge lustes and dyuerse maners of voluptuousnes, lyuynge in maliciousnes and envye, full of hate, hatynge one another.

¹⁴ But yf ye haue bitter enuyenge and stryfe in yor hertes, reioyce not: nether be lyars agaynst the trueth. ¹⁵ This wissdome descendeth not from aboue: but is erthy, and naturall, and dyuelishe. ¹⁶ For where enuyenge and stryfe is, there is vnstablenes and all maner of euell workes.

⁵ Ether do ye thinke yt the scripture sayth in vayne. The sprete yt dwelleth in you, lusteth euen contrary to enuie:
