¹⁴ and he inquired not at Yahweh, and He puts him to death, and turns round the kingdom to David son of Jesse.

¹¹ And Yahweh said unto the sons of Israel, `[Have I] not [saved you] from the Egyptians, and from the Amorite, from the Bene-Ammon, and from the Philistines? <sup>12</sup> And the Zidonians, and Amalek, and Maon have oppressed you, and you cry unto Me, and I save you out of their hand;" <sup>13</sup> and you--you have forsaken Me, and serve other elohims, therefore I add not to save you. <sup>14</sup> Go and cry unto the elohims on which you have fixed; they--they save you in the time of your adversity.' <sup>15</sup> And the sons of Israel say unto Yahweh, `We have sinned, do You to us according to all that is good in Your eyes; only deliver us, we pray You, this day.. ¹⁶ And they turn aside the elohims of the stranger out of their midst, and serve Yahweh, and His soul is grieved with the misery of Israel.

¹⁴ and, now, your kingdom does not stand, Yahweh has sought for Himself a man according to His own heart, and Yahweh charges him for leader over His people, for you have not kept that which Yahweh commanded you..

²⁸ And Samuel said unto him, `Yahweh has rent the kingdom of Israel from you to-day, and given it to your neighbor who is better than you;"

¹ And Yahweh said unto Samuel, `Till when are you mourning for Saul, and I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill your horn with oil, and go, I send you unto Jesse the Beth-Lehemite, for I have seen among his sons for Myself a king.

¹¹ And Samuel said unto Jesse, `Are the youngest men finished?' and he said, `Yet has been left the young; and lo, he delights himself among the flock;' and Samuel said unto Jesse, `Send and take him, for we do not turn round till his coming in hither.. <sup>12</sup> And he sends, and brings him in, and he [is] ruddy, with beauty of eyes, and of good appearance; and Yahweh said, `Rise, anoint him, for this [is] he.. ¹³ And Samuel takes the horn of oil, and anoints him in the midst of his brethren, and prosper over David does the Spirit of Yahweh from that day and onwards; and Samuel rises and goes to Ramath.

⁶ and Saul asks at Yahweh, and Yahweh has not answered him, either by dreams, or by Urim, or by prophets.

¹⁷ And Yahweh does for Himself as He has spoken by my hand, and Yahweh rends the kingdom out of your hand, and gives it to your neighbor--to David.

⁹ thus does Elohim to Abner, and thus He does add to him, surely as Yahweh has sworn to David--surely so I do to him. ¹⁰ to cause the kingdom to pass over from the house of Saul, and to raise up the throne of David over Israel, and over Judah, from Dan even unto Beer-Sheba..

³ And all the elders of Israel come unto the king, to Hebron, and king David makes with them a covenant in Hebron before Yahweh, and they anoint David for king over Israel.

²³ And these [are] the numbers of the head, of the armed men of the host; they have come in unto David to Hebron to turn round the kingdom of Saul unto him, according to the mouth of Yahweh.

¹³ If one returns evil for good, Evil shall not remove itself from his house."

⁷ Yet he, not so is he planning, and his heart, not so is devising, for to exterminate is in his heart, and to cut off nations not a few."

¹⁵ Will the axe beautify itself over the one hewing with it? Should the chief's mace magnify itself over the one waving it? As if a club is also waving the one raising it! As if a rod is raising one who is not wood!

³ `Son of man, these men have caused their idols to go up on their heart, and the stumbling-block of their iniquity they have put over-against their faces; am I inquired of at all by them? <sup>4</sup> `Therefore, speak with them, and you have said unto them:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Every one of the house of Israel who causes his idols to go up unto his heart, and the stumbling-block of his iniquity sets over-against his face, and has gone in unto the prophet--I Yahweh have given an answer to him for this, for the abundance of his idols, ⁵ in order to catch the house of Israel by their heart, in that they have become estranged from off me by their idols--all of them." ⁶ `Therefore say unto the house of Israel:Thus said the Lord Yahweh:Turn you back, yea, turn you back from your idols, and from all your abominations turn back your faces,
